  1. Seems like a no brainer to me and I don't think he would cost THAT much. Would immediately solve your 1B issues. Of course, it takes two teams to tango but the Marlins are going nowhere and might as well get something for him while he has value. Sort of amazing that the Marlins currently have the best run differential in the NL East (+17). They certainly don’t have the record to show for it, but I’m guessing they aren’t ready to be in sell mode just yet. I had been keeping an eye on former Cardinal Rangel Ravelo who was tearing up Triple-A, but unfortunately the Orix Buffaloes of NPB wrestled him away from the Dodgers last week.

  3. With Vogelbach hurt, Haudricourt speculated that the Brewers will need to call Hiura back up out of necessity (Link). In just the past week David Stearns was quoted as saying the following: “I think the way I look at it is, the first time we sent him down, I was probably doing daily check-ins to kind of monitor performance, see how we were doing. This time around I’m probably doing weekly check-ins to monitor performance, see how we’re doing. And I think that’s probably a little bit more fair to everyone involved, and probably gives Keston a little bit more time to get himself going. So I think from that perspective, there’s probably a little bit more space involved, probably a little bit more time involved.” In addition to the quote above Counsell had said it was a situation that required some space. I am sort of fascinated to see what the Brewers do with Hiura now that they have an immediate need at first base. I have a hard time picturing Jace Peterson and Daniel Robertson covering first base every day over an extended period of time, but there aren’t many other feasible internal options.
  4. The potentially available 1B options in order of likely availability (from most available to least available): CJ Cron Jesus Aguilar Colin Moran Josh Bell Carlos Santana Trey Mancini A couple of wild cards are Joey Gallo who is likely available for a semi-steep price and plays primarily OF but can play 1B, and Jeimer Candelario who can play both 3B and 1B.
  5. Well Vogelbach is likely done for a long time. I guess he won’t be batting second anymore. Damn. Edit: I am surprised they didn’t argue he was out of the baseline, because he was 15+ feet outside of the baseline from third to home.
  6. Now is a great example of why I don’t like Vogelbach batting before Yelich. He’s on second with Yelich, their best base runner, on first base. If someone gets a base hit it’s going to be station-to-station whereas if Urias was on second you’d likely end up with Urias scoring and possibly Yelich on third base on many base hits.
  7. There wasn’t much fanfare surrounding his original signing, but here’s an article on him from the spring of 2019: From the Dominican Air Force to Brewers camp, pitcher Miguel Sánchez is soaring
  8. Jorge Lopez was the first, although he was a draft pick out of Puerto Rico. Miguel Diaz made it to the majors, just not with Milwaukee. Some made it really close before topping out at Triple-A, like Angel Ventura. If you want to get really technical, Orlando Arcia pitched in the majors.
  9. Miguel Sanchez is a good story, I’m really happy for him. He was signed at age-22 while serving in the Dominican Air Force.
  10. It was only one appearance, but Kirk Cousins’ cousin Cousins appears to have some legitimate strikeout stuff. If he could prove to be an adequate replacement for Feyereisen that could along way towards improving the dependability of the bullpen.

  12. In back-to-back games the Brewers have had innings in which they gave up 8 hits and 6 hits.
  13. Jake Cousins is the 49th player that has appeared for the Brewers this season. Seems like a lot, especially on July 21st.
  14. Jake Cousins is up in the Brewers bullpen. Didn’t take long for him to get some game action in his MLB debut.
  15. Part of the 4th place tie with 100 home runs. Eugenio Suarez? Yep, we have a winner. It’s Eugenio Suarez with 112 home runs. Here is the top ten home run leaderboard since 2018: 1) Eugenio Suárez - 112 2t) Nelson Cruz - 109 2t) Mike Trout - 109 4t) J.D. Martinez - 100 4t) Nolan Arenado - 100 4t) Ronald Acuña Jr. - 100 7) Matt Olson - 99 8) Max Muncy - 96 9t) Christian Yelich - 95 9t) Manny Machado - 95 9t) José Ramírez - 95
  16. Here’s a trivia question I came across today that I found interesting: Who leads MLB in home runs since the start of the 2018 season? There are 6 players with 100+ home runs since the start of 2018. Make a guess without cheating, I’ll give the answer shortly if no one guesses correctly.
