  1. ^^^ This The Brewers got their 3rd win in their last 13 games, all three wins have featured Weeks on the bench and all 10 losses have seen him starting at second base. I know its a small sample size, but its a trend and the Brewers cannot afford to keep throwing games away if they want to have the tiniest chance of being in competition for the second wild card. Not saying they will even get to that point, but they need a .500 season. Something interesting I read (think is was FSW.com) was that if the Brewers attendance continues to drop the way it is right now they are projected to lose $25-$30 million in revenue. Now a good business man, as i think attanasio is, should realize that its better to eat the $10 million (rickie) by benching him than lose thirty by playing him.
  2. Ale house is great, but can get a little pricy, that whole part of town is. You should look into the Brat House on old world third. Its never too busy, the staff is great, the food is great, the beer is cheap. It was my all time favorite place in Milwaukee for the years i lived there.
  3. but if you all want to come to Oklahoma City I could figure something out
  4. I would think Jo-Jo Reyes would be worth a look due to his lefthandedness and prior success/potential. Also Daniel McCutchen, both of them are pirates, but Daniel graduated with a bunch of my buddies down here in OKC so i would like to be able to root for him professionally as a brewer.
  5. I agree with this, we need to gain payroll flexibility, not throw away the little bit we are gaining. The only thing i would do different is put estrada in the pen. Hes good there and we need help there, also hes not great the third time through the lineup.
  6. i think there is a lesson that we learned about Mark A in the past that makes me confident that if Fiers will be in the rotation next season (i think he will) that Marcum will not. We saw first hand what a disaster lining up consecutive soft tossers in a rotation in series play and i dont think Mark A will do it again. I also think the we learned how effective a rotation can be with one soft tosser that pitches around a nasty 95+ FB SL pitcher and a 93 FB CB pitcher. That said, I really like Marcum and would like to see him back, but the emergence of Fiers blocks it IMO. I am going to give my desired rotation rather than predicted one. -Yo -Peralta -Fiers -Rogers -Thornburg On think that really rubbed me about the brewers this season was how the bullpen cost the brewers this season and no one could figure out why it was so bad with Ax and Krod and Loe all still there. I think something that everybody forgot is that Estrada was an important part back there as well and we took him away from it to put him in the rotation. He has been GREAT there, better than expected. but i dont think he has the stuff to consistently get three times through the lineup. I also think that we all got enamored by his K numbers that it blinds us to his HR numbers. He is an asset as a 6th man swingman type and we should leave him there. Also, i do think its possible we pick up a FA or two. I really hope that we take guys on 1 year contracts because i fully believe that our young pitching is to the point where it would be a very good move for the brewers to take some flyers and hope for success and a big return at the trade deadline. lets use this sudden surplus in young talent to turn 1 year guys into more talent.
  7. I agree with this. I have always been high on him. Would be very interesting for the pen if he adds a tick or two post tjs, most guys do, but also just throwing for shorter stints should add a tick or two. I think we have yet to see anything from this kid that he is capable of and that is dissappointing. For a half season in double A, two years ago, he put it together and he was sick nasty. Reading those post games were fun. hope we take a chance on him on the 40man.
  8. wow, he looks advanced! that arms is incredible. My only concern is that his body looks big for short, hope he doesnt grow out of the position.
  9. glad to see Matt promoted, I think he deserved it and I think he was getting upset that he had to repeat low A and then Gangon got promoted ahead of him (deservedly so). That said, I think if Goforth would have put together a better start in his last outting it may have been him that got the bump. I was expecting a better season out of him, but he has seemed to have turned the corner in the second half a-la Jimmy Nelson so here to hoping for similar results.
  10. I LOVE this news! wish he was going to huntsville though.
  11. this is really interesting and we are definately noticing a trend. Most of these college starters seem to really suffer from dead arms. We get them with poor velocity. I almost think Melvin and Co should consider a strict, and lower than current if they do have it, innings cap on the first pro year for college guys. I think their arms are way too abused in too short a time frame in college, more innings less time. So when they go through these full seasons its like a different sport. It also seems like the ones that were in relief in college fair much better, see thornburg, and maybe its because they had less arm stress. nelson, jungman, bradely, arnett, miller, burgos, and Frederickson are all recent draftees that i can think of that had much lower than expected post draft velocity. I honestly think that these guys should spend their first year in the system as relievers and get up with which ever level the can and still be effective whether thats high A or double A or low A, what ever just as long as their stuff is effective, and they get comfortable with proball, and then the start out the next season at that level as a starter. I would wager you would see truer velocities and more success that way. Just my thoughts, im no baseball official or anything, but if you look at the college guys deemed to be relievers many of them shoot through the minors and are so successful that they are given a chance to start and they are very successful. Two recent brewers that have taken this path unintentionally and it worked are mike fiers and andre lamontange (until injury). Its because of these feelings that i do worry too much about jungmann and bradley, i think both will be fine. also its why i hold out hope that arnett will get another chance to start.
  12. Oh I guess I agree, its not a guarantee he will be way over priced. It is, though, EXTREMELY likely.
  13. I am not a 'trade anybody with value' kind of fan, but I agree with this statement. I was beyond upset that the brewers didnt trade randy wolf in the off-season. I had some many people telling me that 'you dont trade a good starter like that' and 'it would be a terrible move for the brewers an create a hole where the isnt one', and all i kept saying was the he would actually net them something good and that literally his value would never be higher and that he would likely ruin all of his trade value this year because he should have never had the season he did, he was as lucky as greinke was unlucky last season. I am not always right, obviously, and dont claim to be, but some of these potential moves just seem obvious to me. Now we have Gomez, who has never looked better (hitting) in the bigs, and teams looking for outfielders at the deadline. because hes with Boras we have no shot at resigning him, trade him now while you can get something for him. Let schafer play the rest of the season and see what you have in him. If they decide he doesnt have it, use that extra payroll and go get someone. Schafer is getting old and hes entering that 'now or never' phase of his minor league career. I am not saying to trade him as a starting center fielder, but there is not a contender out there that couldnt use ELITE D off their bench, so he coudl bring something in trade wise. Heck his numbers are better than B.J. Upton this year. Third thought on this, and the biggest reason why i think this would be a good move. I have seen Logan a few times now live and every single game he has been the best player on the field. And by no small margin. as far as the yee test goes, this kid passes with flying colors. I have seen more amazing defensive plays from logan live than i have seen on sports center... okay maybe not that much, but the kid can really play. He will never have gomez's power, but he has such a good clean stroke that he wont only get on base but he will run into about 10 homers a year. On the radio today an ex offensive lineman was saying that if you put 25 highschool football teams in a room you could walk in and spot the best QB of the group in 5 minutes, its just a way a guy carries himself, logan has that too. I got to meet him gamel, gindl, and green. He has the best character, green was a pretty good guy also, the other two were unimpressive. With all that said, I would be happy is Gomez stays on the team, but make him everyday, otherwise, I see no reason not to trade him and let logan play.
  14. So, even with the trap, I dont understand why morris is not credited with the hit? when i guy tries to stretch a single into a double and gets thrown out hit still gets credit for a single. I guess I always thought the scoring would work different.
  15. Not sure how Hunter Morris grounds into a force out when the left fielder is throwing Khris Davis out at second. Should that not be a single? I thought that could only not count as a hit if the fielder had the option to throw the runner out at first?
  16. hasnt pitched in a month... I will give him a first inning mulligan.
  17. I still try to remember that he was rushed to the bigs and was the big prospect in the johan santana deal... either way, hes a guy that can help a team win so why not trade morgan and let him play. And, if the Brewers have already determined that he absolutely cannot be the everyday guy, trade him and call up Schafer and let him play every day. If there is one thing that drives me crazy about the brewers is that even when we been out of it (09' 10') they couldnt find a way to give younger guys consistent at bats. I dont see how you can know what a guy like Bianchi or Green could do for you playing sporadically. Yes, Greens situation is obviously a little different, but Gomez or Schafer should be every day for the rest of the season, same with Bianchi, or at least long enough to determine that they have failed.
  18. you can trade him because his bat has power, so why not? I also think that the organization really liked George and wanted to get him a big league job. Signing Quintero also helps the brewers position to trade him as they have just taken an available competing option off the market.
  19. I love Benny and all, and i got really upset when people were bashing him at the end of 08', but unless he really pitches lights out like this the rest of the season I see it being very difficult for him to get more than 2 years. he might even have a hard time getting 2 because of history.
  20. you're right, he has hit and hit and hit. I guess what worried me was the AA call-up last year and how he struggled. I got that "there it is, hes finally been exposed" feeling. So, for him to encore like this is getting me really excited. I can think of so many players that have just messed with me over the years lol. Solome, hendrickson, capellan, de la rosa, parra, nelson, krenzyl (or however you spell it). I wont even get into some of the recent ones *cough* Heckathorn *cough* (though i still have hope).
  21. 2 years 12-14mil total.
  22. Dang, you'd love to have a spot for the young man, but I dont see left field opening up anytime soon... Somebody in Huntsville should hand him a thirdbaseman's glove, he appears athletic enough to maybe handle the hot corner. Also, he must have shortened up his swing, cause I dont know how he could be having the success hes having at the level hes having it if he still had the big long loopy swing he had at wis, i wouldnt doubt the power if he had the same swing but there's no way his average would/could be around the .300 level like it is. Maybe i am getting too excited over a small sample size. Any notes from anyone who's seen him this year?
  23. Maybe start a Post Greinke UDP 50 thread?? I will put out a 50
