  2. Guerra Gallardo Miley Wilkerson Burnes Derby Peralta Lopez Quantity isn't the problem. This team is flush with #4-5-types, which Suter and Woodruff are until they prove otherwise. What they could use is another #2/high-end #3, which even with his regression, Arrieta fits into. Is he worth the contract he's looking for at this point in his career? Well, I'm glad that isn't my decision. I just know that having him in the rotation would make this team a solid playoff contender, instead of the fringe contender they are now. I agree with this assessment. The tough part is just 2 years Lopez was being talked about as flashing as a TOR arm by evaluators as he added bulk velocity and control. A bounce back from him would be HUGE. I think one of the problems that Stearns has with the current FAs is that they would be blocking premium talent and that talent, as it rises through the minors gains value, but as it “sits” in the minors loses value. I think that’s why we saw the Yelich trade. Brinson and Harrison were going to lose value (mostly brinson) and them taking all the ABs at AAA and AA in CF would continue to freefall the value of Ray and Grisham. I really trust this front office as they seem to take a smart building vs rebuilding/ckntending approach.
  3. And Wren looks like Ted Williams. I'm excited about Hiura too, but we really REALLY need to put ST performance in context, especially extremely small sample sizes. After three of the most recent prospects to get really hyped in spring training either underwhelmed (Erceg, Haniger) or got injured (Williams) that season, perhaps that is for the best. Williams got derailed but still looks electric. Erceg made it to AAA in just his second season since being drafted. Haniger last season for the mariners hit .282/.352/.491/.843 16 homers and 25 doubles in 400PA... So, spring hype can sometimes be fools gold, but the 3 your names have not been fools gold.
  4. And every other team could say the same thing too. Whew, don’t get so excited so fast! .... I can’t help it, I’m excited, and no, I don’t think this is like every other year and every other team. We have SERIOUS talent coming back from injury. And all of them may never be the same, but they are like finding some free lottery tickets, why wouldn’t you scratch them?!? Lara has been maddening and disappointing, I’m not sure he’s done yet, but maybe. Orimoloye is another who, if he makes a jump could be a fast riser, but has serious adjustments to make. I also think it’s worth getting excited about hitting on one of the trio of Pennington, Derby, and Supak. All 3 have stuff and have had results at one point or another. I think we have a couple hitters that could take a step forward and really add some depth if doubon has a good showing and hardwood takes another step. Chad Mclanahan has not had a great pro showing yet but the tools are there. I think Garcia is showing he has quite a bit of potential and obviously Luts, if he produces like last year, should be a top 100 fixture. Then back to pitching Braden Webb and Zach brown both seemed to figure it out by the end of last year. Diplan and Ponce are both good arms that could have a positive jump. There is just a lot to be excited about with this farm and we have not had this type of depth in a LOOOOONG time.
  5. It seems hard to believe with all the talent we traded away this off-season. But, seeing the tweet today that Kirby and bickford and full go and dev Williams is throwing off a flat mound (the ground...) and missaka is close to returning I see an opportunity for this current crop of players to be ranked ahead of last years by mid-season Hear me out here. We have bickford, Ray, Grisham, Coulter, Nottingham, Taylor, hauser, Williams, miederos, and Lopez were all top 100 prospects at one point by one service or another. If 1/3 of them bounce back that gives the brewers 3 more top 100 guys, imagine if half of them bounce back ;-). We had a pretty big international signing period last season, on top of that we have Lara who is STILL young and could be a breakout player. Then I think it’s worth considering that Erceg seems to be criminally under-rated. This system could take a big jump just through health and a few bounce backs. I for one am excited to follow this minor league season!!
  6. YES. I believe he’s the reason Stearns has not overpaid for outside SP. it’s funny how soon we forget. Woodruff is who I am most excited about this coming season and his tools are better than any in our current rotation if he puts them together.
  7. That's what I'm afraid of. It's unreasonable to expect an OPS much above .800 even if he does platoon. That's terrible for a guy who does nothing at replacement level except hit a few long balls. Let's not waste 3 months of crucial pa's before admitting the obvious and realizing he's another Matt Clark/Jason Rogers, as the available evidence overwhelmingly suggests. I'm okay with Braun in RF and Thames/Aguilar at 1b if and only if Santana and Phillips are needed together to fetch a terrific young player at a position of great organizational need. Mejia would work. Aguilar OPS’d .837 overall and .889 vs. LHP last season. Again, you’re selling him short. You need guys who can come off the bench in the NL and deliver. Aguilar did that time and time again last season. Plus we need as much Jesus on this team as we can get to make a run!
  8. I wonder if Hauser is a guy that could pop up. Past top prospect, derailed by injury, STRONG showing in the AFL...
  9. Agree. The development of his splitter makes him a true 3 pitch pitcher. That makes a move to the rotation realistic. the splitter and curve are good pitches and he will show a change. just seems like a different guy we tried to make a starter in the minors who barley had a curve and threw 85% poorly located 99mph Fbs. at 97 the movement is still wicked. the splitter is a great pitch (though sometime he cant seem to throw if for a strike), and the curve has really developed. just looking it seems like he would be able to maintain 95 velo deep. I dont know, just seems like hes a different guy and could be a difference maker as a starter. and maybe i just dont know what im talking about, either way i would like to see them try it.
  10. An idea that just hit me watching tonight for the rotation. And I wonder if they would even consider it. Why not try stretching jeffress? His velocity is so easy and has been really good since dropping a few ticks off, but that didn't happen till he was already in the pen, I would bet he could keep his mid-high 90s deep into games. He just seems sooo good in Milwaukee, why not give it a shot?!?
  11. I didn't do one this time, been ultra busy with work, but if I were to pen a 25 today vs. 2 weeks ago Tristan Lutz would be much higher. Obviously recency is a part of that, but the kid can swing a stick! I would even have him ahead of huira due to playing better defense, better arm, better power, and matching his hit tool while being much younger with more projectability and showing out at the same levels, .
  12. I remember getting into a debate with IIRC TheCrew07 when they drafted him; I thought he had upside, TheCrew07 thought he was too small, and initially I was right but lately he was. Diaz struggled pretty badly last year, and this year he was caught behind Ray, Clark, Stokes, and Harrison, but more importantly was hurt most of the year. Diaz signed w angels 6 hrs after release. That's not surprising, too much potential to not take a chance in
  13. That's tough, and a little sad, Brandon Diaz had SOOOOOOOOOO much upside, and once he was brought up to highA it seem like the Brewers plan with him was to make sure his ABs were as sporadic as possible in favor of guys who were minor league filler... wish him the best, hopefully he continues with baseball and finds consistent playing time wherever he lands!
  14. McCutchen hit him hard twice already, despite not having any hits to show for it. I'm fine with them taking Guerra out there after giving up 2 HRs and a walk in that inning. Wonder if the Brewers will double-switch w/ Phillips in the top of the 7th. This is why you don't pull him, let him finish. Build his confidence instead of showing you don't have any in him. Relievers pitching with 1/3 left in a middle inning is one of the worst moves in baseball. I saw the stat one time that the worst era in baseball is a 1/3 situation, the author was saying it's because they have in their mind that they may be put back out the next inning so it changes the way they pitch. Either way I leave Guerra out there after the HR every single time with a pitch count in the 60s
  15. I don't know why you pull him there. Bases are clear now, might as well leave him out there, there is no good had in pulling him
  16. I was just about to comment how good it is to see Guerra' velocity back at 95 tonigh...
  17. I am really starting to think with the complexion the season has taken on that the original plan for harder may change. The bullpen big league experience made a lot of sense for a rebuilding team. Having him start and seeing if he can be THAT guy (and the balance his left handed was could bring) that helps us take the next step is starting g to make more sense. I'm not saying g they do, I just think having him start might make more sense for a contending team, just like having him in the pen made more sense for a rebuilding team. I would not entirely doubt that why stearns moved on Webb.
  18. Yes kn the stadium, which you have to take with a grain of salt. Harder has never hit 90 on the gun all three times I've watched him, yet he's over 95 right now at miller park. And YES Pierre fjnally seems to be living up to the bonus pedigree, Mallen as well. McAllen has been slightly more consistent, but I was under the impression that Pierre had the higher ceiling and defensive profile, hopefully the powers comes too!
  19. I haven't heard his velo for 2 years, but in Appleton he was touchin 97 on occasion. Maybe he's pulled that back. I think his lack of Ks gives him a stats profile that looks like a finesse pitcher
  20. Also he's just not talked about enough, angel ventura could be a real player for the Brewers. Guy throws heat and gets outs, wish his K rate was higher, but I could end up in Milwaukee this season yet
  21. I liked zach brown out of Kentucky, felt like he and Braden Webb and Corbin burnes would all be fast movers. Burnes has been amazing and brown had been awful, but lately he has really turned it around. Tonight he just lowered his ERA to 3.50 and he's put together a solid string of starts. One to watch!
  22. Good find! What I read into that is nothing was set in stone. It was Counsell's best guess at the time. I agree, I'm sure we will get an update after the break
  23. I mentioned him earlier, but don't sleep on angel ventura. He's not on the 40 right now but have a LIVE arm and is handling AAA right now!
  24. https://www.google.com/amp/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSMTZED6TBJ9Q3Q Here is what I found June 29th counsel said "we've got to get him throwing" and then game action by the break. I assume by game action he meant rehab assignment.
  25. I heard after the break initially from the Brewers, then I saw a poster here say by the end of July, though I haven't seen that in any of the Brewers stuff personally, it's probably somewhere in the middle. His injury was lower body (hamstring) so he has likely been throwing regularly and won't need a full rehab stint that you normally see with starters. Unless he's got something going on like peralta or Guerra I see him coming back fairly quickly once ready.
