  1. Barbs is right on about the DVR boxes. Cable has a great deal with them. Can't beat it. A few bucks a month rental. What a deal. Eepecailly for the HD ones. However, DTV is supposed to be coming out with a similar program this year. Just like they are supposed to start carrying many more HD channels. In theory, DTV should be the HD network of choice sometime this year. I think Dish actually has the most HD content currently...
  2. O'kays was a small club in Madison. Right by the Comeback Inn and Essen Haus.. What is it, Willy St.? I forget. But it's basically downtown. It burned down a few years ago. It's a shame, that place was great. When I lived in Madison we would go there and hang out. We were under 21 but could get service usually. There were often some decent bands there. My most memorable show was a Mudhoney show. Place was packed and the band just ripped the house down. I couldn't get in (even though I bought a ticket there a few weeks in advance) so I came back through with some money under my ticket and bribed the door guy to let me in. Totally worth it. Another great show was a Hot Water Music show there. The party afterwards at a guys house was cool. Don Cab played there too. Decent show, but a small crowd. Summertime shows didn't always have all the people. Madison had a few decent local bands that would play there on occasion. And I can't forget the Captured By Robots show. That was amazingly hilarious. That place ruled. Brings back memories of how I used to love going to rock shows.
  3. The best Soundgarden song is "Circle of Power" off of Screaming Life. Well, maybe not their best....but their most entertaining. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I would have to rank Soundgarden a lot higher than the Pumpkins though. Entirely different bands, but Soundgarden has such a better collection. Soundgarden's earlier things, before Badmotorfinger, are complex, twisting rock songs with a garage but professional feel. Entirely unique and boiler plate of what Seattle was doing in the late 1980's. Soundgarden was doing it the best. Their use of different tunings and strange timings (they were almost never 4/4 or 3/4 timed) are very characteristic of their unique sound and idea. Coupled with the fact they were able to produce hit after hit with these odd time signatures is a feet in itself. How many groups can say this? I mean, Spoonman is in 29/4 time I believe!! (wqith some 4/4 in there too) Who does that?! Their biggest song Blackhole Sun was 6/4 time. This is amazing that they were able to break the radio 4/4, 3/4 time standard with these. Fell on Black Days is 6/4 as well. This is a small sample of how they twisted up songs and made them very unique. There hasn't really been any other mainstream bands quite like Soundgarden. And then their best album, Superunknown, a true master piece featuring countless potential singles and hits. Limo Wreck is a personal favorite of mine. 15/8 time for anyone interested. The Pumpkins were good, especially on Siamese Dream. But they are and were more a typical rock band. What I really like from them is their implementation of the "Wall of Sound". They had rather harmless alternative rock songs that became huge sounding due to this production technique. Good band, but not on the same level as Soundgarden.
  4. DTV is OK. I have had it for about a year now. I always had digital cable. If you're an HD person (who isn't now days!) they are supposed to be getting a lot of HD channals this year. We'll see. One of the biggest cons though is in Milwaukee the CBS affiliate hasn't signed an HD contract with DTV. So you won't get CBS in HD over DTV. You'll need a seperate HD tuner for that. It's not the worst thing since the OTA signal is better than the one DTV will give you. But it's a pain none the less. I like it overall and haven't had any real issues with them. I just hope more HD content shows up soon.
  5. I didn't see it or even watch the show much. I'll catch it on DVD one day like the others. But I was reading about it elsewhere and someone brought up points like in a previous episode someone referenced that when they get you, you won't even see it coming. Everything will go black. And also that Tony was seen eating an orange in the final episode. This is a reference to certain death taken form the Coppola films is the argument. Maybe? But from what I've read it sounds like he was killed with certainty. Now of course they filmed a few other endings. They probably showed the one with the fewest conclusions. Expect the DVD that comes out this year for Christmas to have the alternate endings that everyone wants to see more. And also expect all types of explanations about this one for people that can't figure it out or are uneasy about it. Or for those who want to know for sure what happened. This is all marketing.
  6. You don't take out Cordero. Yost made the right moves. Give credit to Texas. They came up big. Cordero even had pretty decent stuff. He got 0-2 on 3 or 4 guys. They just were able to hit the strikeout pitch. It happens and it sucks. This is the vent thread though. So yell all you can I guess. We are as I've stated for awhile a .500 team right now. Our manager sucks btw.
  7. I am very upset by what unfolded tonight. Cocoa blew one and it happens. But the timing couldn't have been worse. All those 0-2 counts. Man, what happened. He looked good. Chalk it up to a lucky one by Texas I guess. We are seriously hurting right now. Where have all the "We're in first place blah blah blah" people at now?
  8. It sounds like they are selling this house with the belief or assumption this other person will be around for a long time to pay mortgages via rent. If the person who is buying this house is relying on a roommate to always be available to help pay mortgage, they are in trouble. No? A roommate is a controllable variable? They can always guarantee that extra money will be there? This sounds viable to you?
  9. Month to month. If they're buying a house and expecting someone else, a friend to live there for a long time and pay rent to cover the mortgage, they're in trouble. If this is their plan then your son has all the advantage. Tell him to live on a month to month basis and that's all.
  10. Sheets really cocks the hell out of his wrist to get that big breaking ball by the looks of that picture. Not easy to do at all.
  11. adam, I went to the school of Engineering there for computer science. It's a good, rigid and difficult program. Don't worry about not being accepted into it right away. Take all your required nonrelated courses and such. But also take the math you need right away! CS is basically a math degree. Be good at math and ready to do a lot of it. You need to do Calc 230,231 and 232 I believe. there is another sequence with 4 calc courses also. You also have to do a physics course. when I was there you had to do 2 calculus physics courses, mechanics and Maxwell's equations. You also have to do a couple elective math courses. All the calc and physics are 4 credits each and 6 credits of math elective (9 when I went). That's A LOT of pure math. And then in the major you have discrete math, algorithm analysis and such so it's even more. If you can eventually take Boylans compilers course. It's hard but it's also really good. Also, take graphics and software engineering. I think they have a web languages course now too. My advice: Don't go into CS unless you love math and theory of computation and want to learn more about these sciences. If you like programming and want to make software, CS is more intensive than a major like MIS and you'll probably be 100X better programmer and more valuable but companies don't always see it this way. And CS is 100X more difficult than MIS. CS has a high drop out rate as well because it is difficult and people don't know what they're really getting into. A CS degree doesn't get the respect it should in the business world either, where you'll likely work afterwards. MIS and CS gets clumped together as "computer work" event though nearly every CS graduate I work with is vastly superior to the MIS guys. But there is also a lot more MIS guys out there. It's fun but challenging. Be sure you're up to the task.
  12. "You should make it a haiku instead. We love haikus at brewerfan." Who wants to hear that? Haiku's are very stupid. Please stop saying them. Whoops!
  13. If you want to see cross state examples (which are nearly impossible to enforce) check our Microsoft VS Google. For awhile there, Google was just hand picking employee after employee from MS. Most of the employees were going to work at Google in CA from MS is Washington. I believe enforcing no compete clauses are impossible to enforce across state lines. Also, just because a company has you sign one of these doesn't mean the law will enforce it. There are limits as to what is considered reasonable. It's usually 1 year. Also, you may want to reference an episode of "The Jetson's" where George Jetson was hired away from "Stanley Sprockets" by direct galactic competitor "Cogswell Cogs". I believe Stanley Sprockets put up a fuss and eventually hired George back, even though George was fired in the first place. I'm not sure how reliable that episode is in documenting this legal situation.
  14. Wow, she OD'd on Icy Hot. Never thought that would be possible. Are there warnings or anything on these products that warn the user of applying too much or using it too often? Her mother seems shocked that an OTC product could be unsafe. She obviously hasn't ever walked into a drug store where taking too much of half the things in there might kill you. This sounds like a freak thing. I mean, how much of this stuff was she using? Anyways, it's now official: More people have died from Icy Hot/Ben Gay that Marijuana.
  15. I like devious. Raaaaaaowwwwwww!
  16. Is Estrada really still batting fifth? What a joke.
  17. Fair enough. I find her very attractive in fact. I might be crazy, this is true. But to be literal I'd agree that we sensationalize people like her too much as well. However, there is some good in her too. Some would say it's a stretch but she does empower girls somewhat, albeit from the wrong direction. But Paris is a free flowing girl who does what she wants and appears vey independent. I wouldn't go too far with it and I'm sure the negatives are dominate in terms of having your little girl use her as a role model. But there are some positives about her in terms of reflecting on a girls mentality. Mainly that of independence (appearance of, she's probably very sheltered, etc)............... I can't do this. She's a bag of trash. A very attractive bag of trash. I was stretching a little too far there.
  18. It's attempting to be absurd, not funny. If it's not cool, please explain why. I'm not quite sure why absurdity isn't "cool". I guess it's not trying to be cool either. But I'm reinforcing the points made by you, Bert55, SoCalBrewfan , etc that shes a terrible role model for kids and teens alike. I was agreeing with you. That was the point of my post. Sorry you interpreted it as offensive. But it would be your fault here I think. Sometimes things are a little outside the box. Absurdity and sarcasm often are. You can make a point without being literal about things. I thought it was plainly obvious that my point was she's terrible for women and mankind alike. That society and the media doesn't have its priorities straight and that we could potentially be headed down a negative path sensationalizing people like Paris Hilton. I mean, do you actually think a sane person would think that way?
  19. To address your 2 concerns, Bert55, here are my thoughts: Paris and those like her are doing men everywhere huge favors by making young women believe that being "hot" is what's most important. She is teaching girls, future women I will add, that having a great body, skanky clothes to show this body off in and essentially being everything that women's suffrage is not is what's important in life. Hopefully this will lead to more hot women showing off more of their bodies and not questioning the decisions of the man in their life. We can hope Americas trophy wife and overall hot girl percentages will go up and that men will retain their rights as owners of the important things. This is a good thing. Secondly, the world is just as into her as we are. After all, being the ambassador of "that's hot" is the universal language of men everywhere. Plus, who cares what the world things so long as we have our young girls everywhere imitating this and trying to achieve that level of "hotness". We need to focus on the benefits she brings men everywhere. Do you want women with flabby bodies and ugly, loose fitting clothes questioning your every move because they're educated and well read? Do you want unattractive she-men challenging your rightful place in the world because they're full of confidence that they're as smart as any man? Do you want women with no interest in maintaining our ideal female body walking around with jogging suits on and questioning our whereabouts? We need women like Paris among us reminding little girls the only way to get attention is to put down the books, stop the thinking and start slimming down, skanking up and shutting up. Before you know it, we'll more young, beautiful women than ever before. And men everywhere will be better off for it.
  20. To me, there's nothing about Paris that says "innocent". Sex tapes, public binge drinking, criminal behavior... If she's innocent, I don't wanna see guilty. Please note the careful use of the word "appearance". http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif In photo's, etc, she has a sort of innocent look on one side of her face very often. Obviously she's not innocent at all. But then, who is?
  21. This thread is hot. ba-da-ching!
  22. People still read print magazines?
  23. She always has that smirk on her face. She always looks like good Paris and bad Paris at the same time. She has a sweet innocence and a devious glare all at once. It's usually in the typical pose she takes where her head is facing down slightly with the right side of her face angles towards the lens and the left side looking naughty. And then a slight grin on her face that puts it all over the top. I don't really like to describe why I think someone is attractive. It's sort of lame, posting in an Internet forum why I think Paris Hilton is especially attractive. I guess in short she embodies the femme fatale some people find attractive. She's the definitive modern day femme fatale. She seems dangerous, alluring, seductive and innocent all at once. Shes probably of very average intelligence and not too interesting I'd assume. I don't really care.
  24. dadofandrew, usually it's a time duration. There are limits too. Generally the rule of thumb is you can't work for a direct competitor in the same state for one year after leaving a place of employment. But the law varies everywhere and it can be hard to enforce. For instance, I believe these types of laws are illegal in California. Don't take my word for it though. Do some research.
  25. Welcome to the thread, Crackley....
