  1. Like a friend of mine once told me: Always go for the money. You'll never "enjoy" your job, especially in corporate America. The money allows you to do things in your life. Work isn't your life and it's not meant to make you happy. Work should give you money and as much of it as possible. The more efficiently you can make money the better for your real life. Work isn't your life and if it is you're missing out on what's important. If you have an opportunity to make significantly more money you take it. Because even sooner you'll have another opportunity to make significantly more money. You might think you "like" your job, but what you're really saying is you don't hate your job and are scared you'll hate your new one. Probably not. Work sucks. Money is fun. More money makes work more bearable. As the saying goes: Take the money and run.
  2. Why can't a movie as good as say.... "Buffalo '66" come out this summer? Between Shrek, Spiderman and Pirates, I think I want to puke. Are any of those 3 overhyped, over exposed movies any good? I saw Spider Man and it's by far the worst one yet.
  3. Her dad totally ruined her. A perfect example of an over zealous father pushing their child too far too fast. She has obvious talent and is good. But she never got to develop, her game or her metal state, the right way. So shes at the same level she was 3 years ago and that's very average for her age now. She developed physically quicker than her peers, but they've caught up. Especially since she hasn't been allowed to cultivate her game the right way. She hasn't done anything significant and now there are girls her age that are better. Shes a freak show at this point and I fully expect her to be washed up in a couple years. It's a sad story and it's really not her fault. Her parents are idiots and have terrible priorities.
  4. Dominic James has been overrated and I think a lot of people said this from the start. But it's hard to convince a lot of people in Milwaukee of this, for obvious reasons. But then, I remember him in his Freshman season and what a surprise he was. He needs at least another year of college. He will not be drafted by anyone this year.
  5. I have a friend who was in the military not so long ago. Anyways, he had access to satellite cameras. What you see on these things is child's play. You can be zoomed in to the point where a blade of grass is essentially viewable. All live in realtime. He claims to have spied on his mother in the backyard and called her up to tell her what she was doing! There is an eye in the sky and Big Brother most certainly is watching, if he chooses to. And it's not like it's that difficult. I remember solving a physics problem on lenses and light. The question was, disregarding a horizon, how big would a refracting lense have to be to see LA from NYC? The answer was only around 7' I believe!
  6. Teachers do pretty well. People forget teaching isn't a year long occupation but one that gives you June, July and August (not in full of course....but a teacher basically gets 10-12 weeks off a year) in essence. Not to mention every other legal holiday and spring break and Christmas/New Years. What I'm saying is teachers get a lot more time off than a typical person. Also, teachers get pretty good benefits. Job security is second to none as well. Also, they do make very good money after some time has been put it. By the 10 year mark a teacher is making a decent amount and still has all that vacations. What I'm saying is teaching is a pretty good gig. Especially if you have a family. The benefits and the fact that you're working mainly when your kids are is beneficial. If you're in a band, teaching is great as youre off in the summer. My GF is a teacher.
  7. "Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. it's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it's when you've had everything to do and you've done it." I don't really feel that I'm in a position to advise you on your decision, but for what it's worth, that's a quote that I try to live by. I have to agree with that. My current job allows me wayyyyyy too much browsing time to the point I'm sick of it. It's a nice thing when you've been busy for awhile and you get an easy week. But my position currently has had just too much of it and I grow tired of it. Granted, I've spent a lot of time reading plenty for interesting things both related and not related to my field of work (software development, etc). But I wrote software when I was younger because I like it. I got a degree in CS because I loved it. Now I'm at a job where the expectations are so little I hate it. The pay is decent and the benefits rule. The atmosphere is OK although most my coworkers are incompetent in my opinion. But it's easy. And its easy to get used to easy. But it also leads to boredom, stagnation and a destruction of initial interests. But for you, if you're in a filed you like, but you're only sitting around all day, you'll find your entire life more rewarding by actually doing what you like. I can't wait until my 3 years is up so I can get a new job to be honest.
  8. If we lose to Obermueller tomorrow, that's it. I'm not going to take it anymore. Should that be considered a threat?.........
  9. Saving $300.00/month on insurence is enough to move in and of its own. Plus, the additional money (around $3500.00 a year more) and improved gas costs...You're looking at over $7000.00 in income more a year...that's hard to pass up. Plus a faster career path. Your one concern seems to be you enjoy not working and being lazy. We all do. But I think you can pretty much be lazy at any company.
  10. "28 Weeks Later" was pretty good. I'd recommend seeing that. It's actually fairly scary/suspensful.
  11. The animals at meat factories are raised with efficiency in mind. The idea is to raise as tasty of an animal as possible for as cheaply as possible so the most people possible can eat it. It's not very humane, and I don't agree with it, but it's reasonable. It's reasonable because this meat feeds millions of people. Dog fighting involves warping a dogs mind, making it borderline insane with the intent to fight it against other dogs for entertainment and profit. The animals are abused mentally and physically for no utilitarian reason. In addition, the dogs become a potential threat to society. I'm just not sure you can seriously compare the meat packing industry to the dog fighting industry. I'd agree, neither treats animals very well. But at least one has a legit purpose with the intent to feed millions of people.
  12. Bush is up again already? Well, here we go again. Two close games by two teams that seem about even so far. I'm hoping the offense really scores a lot of runs, but then when am I not hoping for this? Really have no read on what's going to happen.
  13. Well, Fielder has his "ya know"'s (although if you were to record yourself, you might be surprised) but even more predictably, he will always mention putting the "barrel on the ball" when talking about his hitting. I love that guy.
  14. Dog fighting is a disgusting thing and it should be very strictly enforced. Pit Bulls, by breed, are NOT violent animals. It's a huge misconception about them. They've been demonized into this role by sensationalist media, gullible public and the people who raise them and train them to fight. Pit Bulls are breed to fight because of their physical characteristics. They have a low center of gravity, big heads with strong jaws and strong bodies. They are an ideal dog for fighting purposes. They can be trained to attack animals, especially dogs, and leave humans and such alone. They are trained with some terrible techniques that involve torturing of them and other animals. Other animals, including weak dogs are used as bait for them. This fact is of course forgotten when it comes to the training of these dogs. These dogs are taught the world is a place of fear and live terribly abusive lives. Their emotions are damaged so badly they only want to fight. So the breeders are trainers argue that the dogs want to fight, etc. But this untrue. The dogs are raised in a world of fighting and are warped into this mind set. Pit Bulls are friendly dogs if trained to be so, like any others. I don't have any or want any (they're ugly) but it's too bad for the people who love that breed (and similar ones that fall under the Pit Bull umbrella) have restrictions on them because of stupid breeders, trainers and owners.
  15. Thanks for the info. I didn't follow them closely back then and just remember reading some things that he was upset he was moved to the pen. I had the impression at the time he was basically washed up or something. Turns out I was wrong. I agree, he definitly is a future HOFer.
  16. Wasn't John Smoltz considered basically washed up a couple years ago at one point, being demoted to bullpen mop up status?
  17. Careful with that stuff. You'll want to avoid eating it too fast or else you'll get an astronaut ice cream headache!
  18. Thanks, guys!
  19. Well, this is rock bottom. But at least we're not getting blown out. Lots of bad luck to go with some bad play. When one system is going, the other isn't it seems. The good news: The hardest part of our schedule is over. The bad news: We couldn't hang with the 4 of the best (Mets, Phils, Dodgers, Padres) NL teams on the road. But we get to play 3 of these teams at home still. We split with LA on the year. It's a long season. We get a crack at another slumping, but good NL team in Atlanta this week. The ugly news: Everyone in our division that currently matters lost. Again. We've been totally terrible and have lost almost no ground. Lots of potential ground could have been gained and we pissed it away. But we played the hardest part of the schedule and didn't lose almost anything.
  20. Why all the hate on TGJ? It's not his fault Hart doesn't get PT. He's been doing good. Everyone should be happy for the guy and question why Yost doesn't play Hart more. I kind of get the idea Hart is still sore and being used as sparingly as possible.
  21. I'd recommend picking up the book. It's almost tailor made for the Wisconsin NBA fan. It has a section on Brett Favre and the Chicago Bulls dynasty. It also talks about baseballs financial predicament and kind of comes to some conclusions with evidence that might not seem right intuitively. But it's backed up with solid evidence. It's a fascinating book and one of the better basketball statistical analysis books. You don't need a math degree to keep up. If you have one all the better, but he eventually breaks down a complicated formula into a simple one. If you have an economics degree or something of that sort then this is right up your alley. I don't have an econ or math degree (math minor however, yipee!) but economics is a hobby of mine as are statistics so this and "Money Ball" are a couple books I adore. If you're into "Freakonomics" you'll like this stuff. The premise is, using the possession as the currency of a basketball game, just what is the best way to measure a players contribution to winning, the ultimate goal of the game? Players are assigned "Win Scores" based on a lot of factors. A Win Score is made up of all types of stats, time player and it also most impressively takes the players position into account. The results may be startling at times! Of course, there is a section on defense. He does measure as much defense as he can but it's also very intangible. But even the author admits that this score is only an evaluator up to a point. It has to be used with observation, of course. But what's most impressive is when you look back on any NBA team over the last 20 or so years that he has gone back and add up the Win Scores of every player on a team and the Win Scores add up +/- 2 wins to that of the teams! It's almost fool proof, with some margin of error. Most impressive.
  22. Here's a good article that answers a lot of questions brought up here. IT discusses why NBA teams tank and other sports don't, the value of the top player VS the #2 pick, economics and incentives and other things. If you haven't read "Wages of Wins" it might now make a whole ton of sense. dberri.wordpress.com/2007...n-the-nba/ And then read this: dberri.wordpress.com/2007...n-the-nba/
  23. I know in my undergrad degree (Bachelor of Science), we had to complete it in 10 or less years I believe for the credits not to expire. I wonder if his credits are no good from when he was 18 or whatever... Anyways, the guy can do what he wants and I hope he's not just slacking but in fact taking a wide array of things (I doubt this), but he's missing out on better things in life. College is fun but work is a lot easier and more rewarding (because you actually create things instead of doing learning things....and you get paid) and I still live a similar lifestyle as to when I was in college. Except now I have a lot more money to spend on things to go with money I can now save. Plus, if he likes college so much why not get your bachelors degree over the course of like 5 or 6 years and then go on to grad school for 3 or 4 more? At least when you get out you'll have a couple of degrees and a master to show for it. But then, I suppose this isn't his purpose. Sounds like a lazy, loser to me. I mean, is it really fun going to college parties and being "that guy" at the things? You know, the guy whose a little older than everyone else and is usually balding at the college kegger.... Oh well, I know some people near 30 who have blown the last 12 or so years a lot worse than this guy.
