4/9/08 Reds (Fogg) at Brewers (Bush): 7:05 PM CDT

Thank you homer for bringing some people back to reality. It is hard to get the built in "Bush sucks" thing out of peoples head and give them a clear picture. Plus the early brewer success has given everyone the expectation of never giving up more than a couple runs apparently. -

Braun is only batting .269 with an .808 OPS. Fielder has a .781 OPS. I expect both to improve. I agree but someone mentioned that they are waiting for them to start hitting. They have already and we are also only 6 games into the year. -

What do you mean start hitting? Prince is hitting .333 snf Braun just launched another bomb today. I am not sure what you are waiting for. I guess prince needs to be batting 500 and braun needs a homer every game to satisfy you. -

Bush may be out of the rotation in a bit but I will stand up for him a bit here. He wasn't as sharp as you would like and walked a bunch of guys. But if Braun and Hall make those plays he may have saved two runs and his outing would look much better. Just sayin'. -

It's the same ones that can accept a loss in the third game of the year. Also the ones who see that we took 2 of 3 (at least) from the favorite of the division, on the road. And the ones who know that a team will give up runs and may not score a bunch every game. It's called the reality of playing a game. I always like to relate to games I play. I don't win every pickup basketball game or summer baseball league game. Sometimes you are just not going to win. -

Every game is do or die isn't it? And I thought that our starting pitching was only going to give up 2.5 to 3 runs a game. Come on people, give it a break. We are three games in and we have took 2 of 3 at worst. But I guess anything less than perfection is reason for this. -

Who is the genius who made this batting order that had the pitcher in a great spot last inning. Enjoy the game and give up the Yost stuff already. This group of people bashing yost for everything is just getting plain old. -

Is this a serious question? He has given up 1 through 5. -

Well there's the first example of the pitcher batting 9th working. It is going to go both ways but it has worked here. But somehow some will still be pissed at Yost for something else. -

Reading the last page of the thread makes it sound like Soup has been just awful and we are losing. We are starting to sound like the cubs board just because we gave up a run. We are going to have some games where we give up runs believe it or not. -
Well, seeing as it's got a massive fleet of cabs and a real public transportation system, I never had a problem with the traffic when I lived there. I am not going to get into this debate but I have no clue where you were living but it was not chicago if you have that as a quote. If you used the public transportation, I am sure that helped, but it is much more trouble to go through all of that to get somewhere. As for driving, there is no denying that is sucks to get around in chicago.

Would you rather have 1 v. 2 in the quarters or not at all, I guess is what I am saying. And by-the-by, West beat Memorial and Vincent to win the last 2 state titles, I think in a 3 year span they lost all of 3 games, beating plenty of City Conference schools along the way...but that is neither here nor there... What I am saying is, you could put all of those schools (Washington, King, BayView, Vincent) in different sectionals and they could all get beat before state and never meet. Or, if 1 and 2 make it to State and are on opposite ends of the Bracket, if one gets beat before the final, the two never meet anyway. You are exactly right. All of the schools "could" get beat before they make it to state. That is the point. The problem with this is that while these teams are playing 3 real tough games "just" to get to state while out of the city, some of the teams have a walk or maybe one tough game to reach state. I don't think the debate is whether or not some teams can hang with the city schools but playing them after going through the grind of making it to state may make it a bit easier. The goal should be to have the best games at state but that will never happen. While West has done very well in state recently, this does not settle the debate for me. It has helped it but does not cover up the fact that there are far to many blowouts that result from this format. In almost any sport, this format results in plenty of quarter and even semi-final blowouts, which really takes something away from the state tourney. I played in enough of them and while it was great to win, it didn't feel like a state tourney. It is not possible to totally seed the entire state but you could spread it around a bit and at least improve this a little.

Parking prices increase (esp. for Opening Day)
whynotthebrewers replied to owbc's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I also listened to the radio show this morning on 1250 and became upset and turned it off. People compaining about this is silly. The supply and demand thing sums this all up very simply. If you don't want to pay it, don't go or use the other cheaper or free options out there. Seems easy to me. If people don't park there they will bring the price down in the future. But I think we all know that people are going to still go to the game and park there. I doubt that $7-$10 is going to change most people from going to the game. And if it does, there are more tickets for others. As for the price of gas being high and traveling to the games. Either you have to go to less games or just eat up the cost. It's the price you pay for having a possible winner. I would prefer to pay a couple more dollars for a higher payroll and a chance at winning. It is much more fun just being in the discussion of the baseball world than living with the bad teams we had in the past ten years. Seems like a small price to pay to me. -
The main point you are forgetting to point out with those examples is that each of those coaches had the best players in the game on their teams. Jackson won with the lakers but that was with Kobe and Shaq. So after Shaq left and he didnt have the two best players in the game, he suddenly wasn't winning titles. I doubt he changed the way he coached. Larussa had some decent players in Oakland and also in St Louis. McGwire, Eck, Stewart, Canseco, Pujols, just to name a few. I am sure they had something to do with the winning but it didnt hurt having some of the best players. Being in this market, it is very difficult to get these type of players which makes it much easier to win. Yost has done ok with what we have but we don't exactly have some of the players he has had. We have some guys that may get there and then maybe we can really kill the guy. But over his 5 years, last year was really the only time we might have had a chance to win the division. Saying it was because of him is a matter of opinion and everyone can say that if they would have done it their way, we would have won. Everyone has all the answers and it must be somewhat easy to win from reading may of the posts. I have no idea why Melvin jsut doesnt hire some guy from the internet to coach for minimum wage and put more money into players. All of the examples made are correct but those guys also had a little help from some studs on their team. If we dont get it done this year I will be getting anxious but it may be because our pitching doesnt come through or some of our hitters slump as they did last year. Or maybe our bullpen isnt as strong. But simply saying Yost is to blame may be a bit far. Give Yost the Mets lineup and pitching and I would guess he would do a little better doing the same thing as he is now. That is all I am saying. He does things just like Bobby Cox did and I think Bobby had a little help from some of the best pitching staffs ever. It probably covered up alot of things people would see as wrong during their run but winning covered it up. Now he does alot of things wrong seeing they are not winning as much. Funny how that works. Baseball is a game where the manager plays the least in the result. This argument holds a little more water in football or basketball where there are plays on a constant basis. Baseball managers eat seeds, chew gum and other things, and sit on their but. They send in a buntm hit and run, and make pitching changes. In between, players have to pitch, field, and hit to give the mangers a chance to do anything. There are alot of games where there is a blowout either way and the manager does very little. I want to focus on the players and get better ones. Focusing on this, this often, is really silly. He is going to be here and I can only hope we play well enough to win a bunch of games.. We sure have alot of talent now and the heat is on. But we still have holes that richer teams don't deal with. (pared back long quote --1992)

Some people are slow learners~. Like I said I'm not a big Yost fan, I'd rather they had fired him at the end of last season. However I'd rather have a coach that struggles with in game moves than one who the team doesn't support, who leaves pitchers out too long to ruin young arms, who refuses to play young guys even when they are on the roster (dodgers) etc. I really wish Yost would take a class on in game management or something but that is the kind of thing I feel does grow with experience. Oh yeah and he has to stop doing that little grimace/smile thing when his boneheaded moves don't work out, that little thing makes me want to smash the TV. I just struggle with people the majority of Yost bashers using the reason of struggling with in game moves. All managers do some of the same things that Yost does and that includes the ones that are seen as winners as well as the bad managers. Some decisions work and some don't. But in the big picture, having more talent than the other team is the thing that decides whether or not you go on to the playoffs and win a title. Yost could win the world series this year and then the Yost bashers would simply say it was the talent that covered up his mistakes. It can't be both ways. Belichek wasn't a good coach in Cleveland and now is a god. Phil Jackson has been average with the lakers and now they get Gasol and they are contenders. In baseball Larussa had bad teams and then moved on to St Louis and had some great players who helped him win. I could go on and on. But when people constantly bash Yost, it seems like a waste of time to me. If the brewers were able to add a stud pitcher and a couple position players like other bigger markets they would probably win more games and that doesn't make yost a genius. This issue is overblown and having our young players play better is the bottom line. Pitch well and our team will be fine seeing we should hit very well. Yost has little to do with any of that.

While I didnt want to see him come to the NL, I did realize that we would see him the same amount of times as if he was with the twins. Plus, the mets rotation was pretty awful last year and I don't understand why it all of a sudden would become dominant with the addition of one pitcher. Santana is great but after that you have some real questions. They are no lock for the playoffs and I would say we have at least an equal chance to be as good. Pedro or Sheets could both get injured and change either rotation. Great move to help the mets but by no means a solution to the problems they had last year.

What is with all the criticism of the fans?
whynotthebrewers replied to bklynbrewcrew's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
continues to make boneheaded moves each and every game that are costing us precious games They all make comments like this because fans who criticize Yost are the fans who always have the answers. I can see not liking a move here and the but it is just constant. After games they have all the answers. Every game should be won, if only we had done it "this" way. Well aren't you the smartest person in the world "after" the game is over. Or they are just the most negative person to begin with and just guess something bad will happen. When it works, it is to the players credit. When it doesn't, we got Yosted and they "told you so" The players are never to blame and we would have 10 more wins without Yost. So I guess this is all up for discussion. Who says all these moves are the wrong decision and they are costing us wins? I guess those with the answers should be on the coaching staff because we would win all these games with them there. It just gets old taking about this seeing fans are going to do this when they get upset but they don't have the anwers and don't know what is going on in the dugout or behind the scenes. That is the truth. -
So why did we need Linebrink?
whynotthebrewers replied to Hammer715's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Just stop already. When turnbow struggles people want to get rid of him. Now a guy has a couple of bad games and we call it the worst deal ever. And the best part of this is that you miss Wise. I guess you are one that only remembers the last few games and is upset about something new everyday. -
I did want to share my story of Ned hater in public. Last night we were at a bar and when cappy had a couple runners on in the 5th, with the one run lead, this guy and his buddy start yelling at the tv and using the "there goes ned leaving him in to long again" and "man, ned just has no clue how to manage a game" Now while a group of us were laughing and then began crying soon after Braun made the error. But to put that on Ned is comical. It was 3-2 in the 5th. I guess he was supposed to pull him after 4 and kill the bullpen some more. But it really doesn't matter because the argument just changes according to what he does wrong tonight.

Why can't Hart sit? I hate when the IGT starts off with some type of lineup complaints. Except for Fielder and Braun, every guy can have a day off and it really is not that big of a difference. Hart hasn't exactly been hot and neither have Weeks, JJ, or Hall. The Ned haters just get old after the same thing over and over. He could put out the same lineup and win every game for a week and there would be a complaint on how he ran the pitching staff or some other thing he did wrong.

I don't think this does as much as most think. The name power is there but they have an often injured and old allen, a ball hog who takes bad shots in pierce, and now KG. But the rest of their team is not good at all and these guys are not going to play the entire game and when one or more of them is out of the game they are very average. And one gets hurt and they are really really bad. I don't really care about the NBA and casually watch the bucks but this doesn't give the conference to them like I see here. A few guys are not going to win by themselves for an entire year. You need your bench to keep you in the game and they have nobody.

7/26/07 Brewers (Bush) @ Reds (Livingston) 11:35 AM CDT
whynotthebrewers replied to hawing's topic in Archived Game Threads
Yes. Because I hate the Brewers. Does reality hurt that much? Can't you take the goggles off and look at things realistically? Cubs are the best team in baseball and we're far from it. Me saying we'll be out of first place in 3 days isn't that much of a stretch. Now the cubs are the best? Wow, talk about riding a winning high right now. I think they are flawed much like most teams in baseball for that matter. Whether it goes down to a game tonight or not I would think that we can still hold it down for a bit. They will go on a steak and things will settle down soon. And the cubs will cool way down as well. But when the brewers lose things go completely crazy around here and there is someone new to blame.
