  1. Blengino sounds like a real solid choice but do SABR techniques work well when it comes to scouting? I remember reading moneyball and those factors lead to only college guys getting picked and ignored traditional scouting methods. I think SABR works in general but I would hate to ignore traditional scouting methods as well. I think the best type of scouting director would be one that factors in both. Actually seeing a guy perform is just as important as seeing his stats.
  2. Where are you getting a Gold Glove caliber CF with power and a decent OBP for 1 yr/10 mil? On a team full of awful defensive players its nice to have on guy that plays solid defense. I will be very disappointed if we dont bring Cam back.
  3. I want to cry. Jack Z is the man responsible for us making the playoffs and I wish we kicked Melvin to the curb and named Jack GM of the Brewers. This is a very dark day in Brewers history.
  4. I am pretty sure Dale didnt get the job because of his love of small ball and that is why I would be surprised if Melvin hires Brenly. At this point I am pro Macha because Brenly sounds worse than Yost. The last thing this team needs is to bunt every inning like Sveum was doing and I think Melvin knows this well.
  5. I would say Macha seems the only one who isnt strategically inept out of the guys rumored. If he can change his personality I could live with him. Brenly and Randolph on the other hand are clueless.
  6. I would agree with this if Melvin hadnt made the comment that the players dont have to like the manager. That sounds to me as if he is laying the groundwork to hire an unlikeable guy like Macha.
  7. We just fired a manager because he oversaw a choke job lets not hire another. Why is Melvin so adamant about the manager having experience anyway. He should find a guy with a good personality that doesnt believe in small ball. None of the candidates rumored seem to fit that bill at all.
  8. At this point Im just hoping that its not Brenly. I really cant say I like Macha due to his personality but he seems better than Brenly. Why cant Melvin be smart for once and look at Davey Johnson or Bobby Valentine.
  9. I get the impression that Melvin's choice hinges mostly on finding a manager that wont play small ball which is fine by me. If I remember correctly Melvin made comments about not wanting to bunt so much and I think thats a big reason why Sveum isnt getting the job. If Doug is smart he while hire either Davey Johnson or Bobby Valentine who both dont like small ball and they have solid personalities to boot.
  10. I am very happy for Tampa Bay but I admit part of me is jealous. I really cant wait till its the Brewers playing for the World Series.
  11. Please interview Davey Johnson and Bobby Valentine and pick one of them, preferably Johnson. All of the other guys listed are terrible choices. Macha and Showalter are both hated by ex players as was Tracy in Pittsburgh. Randolph is as strategically inept as Yost and Brenly is well Brenly. Please Doug be smart about this and take a shot with Davey or Bobby V.
  12. Davey Johnson and Bobby Valentine are the only two names mentioned that make any sense. I wasnt for or against Macha but after reading his ex player comments I want no part of him. Showalter is another guy that players tune out in short order so that should eliminate him. Brenly as I remember wasnt a good in game manager either so as far as Im concerned if we dont or cant get Johnson or Valentine we should just hire Sveum who is the lesser of all evils in comparison with the other supposed candidates. Sveum is no genius strategically and clearly wants to bunt too much but at least the players like and respect him.
  13. Macha, Brenly, and Showalter would all be awful choices. Those comments from players about Macha is all I need to know about him. As far as Brenly is concerned he is strategically inept and only won because the D'Backs had Johnson and Schiiling but his in game moves were puzzling to say the least. As far as Showalter is concerned he is a micromanager that rides his players way too hard and the players revolt against him everywhere he has been. Im very disappointed in Melvin if these are the clowns he is looking at. As much as I think Sveum would be a bad choice I would prefer him over the other three. Melvin needs to see if Davey Johnson or Bobby Valentine are interested and if they say no I would just give Dale the job over the other three guys.
  14. This is exactly why Jack Z is more important than Melvin. Without his drafting acumen this team is nowhere. If it came down to Jack Z or Doug I would keep Jack in the fold.
  15. Davey Johnson would be a dream come true. If not him Bobby Valentine is also a great choice. I really hope that Willie Randolph is not a consideration because he is as bad as Yost.
  16. If it comes down to losing Jack Z or Melvin I would rather let Melvin walk. I think Doug has done a good job overall but Jack Z is the guy most responsible for this teams success. If I were Mark A I would do everything possible to keep Jack in the fold.
  17. I would give CC a 4 yr/80 mil deal with a 5th yr vesting option. Those that say sign him for 30 mil per year are missing the point that a contract like that would cripple any financial flexibility that we would have. I have a tough time even offering 4/80 for a pitcher when pitching injuries are just too common. We would all love to have Sabathia back but I wouldnt do it at the cost of having a bunch of Counsells in the field behind him.
  18. I cant say I trust Melvin in regards to hiring a new manager. If it were up to him Yost would be managing in 2009.
  19. We need a manager that isnt obsessed with small ball and "playing the right way". We also need a manager that is intelligent enough to know that Gallardo should pitch and elimination game before Suppan as well as someone that realizes the backup catcher can start more than once a month. Sveum has failed all of these tests ones that Davey Johnson and Bobby Valentine will excel at.
  20. We cant compete financially with the Yankees but if CC is willing to take a discount I am sure that we will make a fair offer. Unfortunately the Yankees have a new park and are very desperate to do whatever they can to make sure they never miss the playoffs again. It wouldnt shock me to see them go as high as 200 mil or so for 7 years which we have no chance of matching. CC has been great to watch but I cant see him turning down the outrageous amount of money that the Yankees are sure too offer.
  21. Sveum absolutely has to go. Between his "small ball" comments and his insistence on starting Suppan when Gallardo was available he has shown that he is just as incompetent as yost. Please try to get a real manager like Davey Johnson or Bobby Valentine who know how to handle pitching staffs and dont want to bunt every runner over. Please dont let Melvin hire one of his cronies like Jerry Narron or any other losers from the Texas Rangers organization. Can we please hire a competent manager instead of the likes of Yost and Sveum.
  22. The Dodgers are going to crush the phillies and I will be very happy to see that. The Philadelphia are jerks much like New York fans and they werent exactly friendly to me when I was there in September or game 2. I really hope they lose and I am pretty sure they will.
  23. I dont care how much money Suppan is making he needs to go. Call it a writeoff or whatever but the bottom line is the guy throws batting practice. How we did not start Gallardo on 3 days rest instead of Suppan is beyond me. Mark A is a complete moron for recruiting this stiff and paying him big money. He is an absolute albatross to this teams payroll and I dont want himanywhere near this team after he blows any chance we had of winning this series. So gallardo can pitch in relief on 3 days rest but he couldnt start this game? Seriously its time for new decisionmakers. Anyone that didnt see Suppan getting rocked is just blind to the facts that he is awful.
  24. I am still willing to give Rickie another chance mostly because his value his so low and he is talented but I am not sure the organization feels the same way. I would hate to dump him for a bag of balls and see him fulfill his potential.
  25. After making that ridiculous error and being yanked in the middle of game I dont think Weeks will make another start in a Brewers uniform. Moyer starts game 3 but I think Durham will play that game and Weeks will only be used as a pinch hitter. I have been one of Rickie's biggest supporters but even I realize he may never live up to expectations. I think we dump him in the offseason for whatever we can get which probably wont be much. If this does happen I think Rickie will go down as one of the biggest disappointments in Brewers history.
