  1. Melky Cabrera is a terrible hitter and an average CF at best. I have seen him plenty of times and all I can say is he is not what we need. He is basically a slightly better gwynn. Is melvin just giving up at this point? Nothing he is doing is making any sense at all.

  11. Perez is a very talented pitcher but he is way inconsistent and he walks too many guys to ever be an elite pitcher. Id give him 2 yrs 15 mil, and thats 15 mil total not per year. He will end up with around 60 mil for 5 yrs and whoever pays that will regret it.
  12. Well clearly this thread was intended for me and my pessimism towards this offseason. Before I share my thoughts I want to apologize to all those I have annoyed with my negative and panicky rantings. I dont mean to tick anyone off, I am just very frustrated and need somewhere to vent. As far as losing CC is concerned I am not surprised or overly upset about it. I knew we couldnt compete financially with the yankees who as usual have to bid against themselves and eventually win. CC was great while we had him and essential in getting us to the playoffs and for that I thank him. Unfortunately since he signed with the yankees who I despise more than any other team in sports I cannot and will not say I wish him well in pinstripes. Now this is where my venting begins. Ben Sheets who is in the same class as CC as a pitcher and has been a Brewer for 8 yrs can be had for less years and less money per year than CC. Ben is a great pitcher and a career long Brewer who I believe is a must sign if we can get him anywhere near the 3 yr/ 40 mil amount yet all I hear is that we havent and may never make him an offer. This completely infuriates me. As I have said many times before pay for excellence or dont waste your time with free agency because mediocrity gets paid like our very own Jeff Suppan. If we were willing to give Suppan a 4 yr deal for 42 mil then we should be willing and able to meet Ben Sheets asking price. As for other free agents; I just dont see the use in overpaying a Suppan type like Garland (yes I realize I have used him as my whipping boy in nearly every post lately) or an inconsistent pitcher like Oliver Perez. Burnett is way overpriced and not as good as Sheets and Lowe is good but too old for the 5 yr deal he will get from someone. That really leaves the choice of signing Ben Sheets who has been a great Brewer or overpaying for mediocrity which is never smart. I juts cant see us going into next season with a rotation of Gallardo, parra, Bush, Suppan, McClung. That rotation is not good enough to make the playoffs with and adding a Paul Byrd type is just not enough. I would also hate to see us trade Fielder or Hardy and open up another hole when signing Sheets would mean the rotation would go from huge question mark to solid. In summation I have the idea in my head that Melvin had all his eggs in Sabathia and now that we dont have him in the fold we will once again be an also ran like the pirates and reds. After all the losing years we have had to endure I would hate to see us take a huge step backwards but that is where I fear we are headed. Again I apologize to all regarding my cynicism but as of now I do not feel good about the direction this team is headed.
  13. This offseason is looking like my worst fears realized.
  14. Im trying to be patient but if Sheets signs with the yankees I will break down and cry. Please Doug sign Ben and keep him away from the darkside. My heart cant take seeing Ben Sheets in a yankee uniform it just cant.
  15. Unless Doug knows something about Sheets health that we dont know he would be a fool to not sign him. The perception that Sheets is always injured by fans and media alike are way overblown. If we can keep Sheets to go along with Gallardo and Parra we can still have a good rotation. If not we will have to sign a lower rung free agent or create other holes by trading Prince or JJ. At this point in time I believe that Melvin got caught unprepared and we are going to pay a huge price.
  16. Melvin better have a plan B because resigning CC was a pipedream at best. Melvin needs to make amends with Ben Sheets and resign him so we can have a strong rotation with Sheets and Gallardo as the 1-2 starters. I would hate to have to hurt our lineup by trading Fielder for pitching when we can keep him for at least one more season and have Sheets back in the fold. It really appears that Melvin overplayed his hand when he really had no chance at keeping sabathia.
  17. If Melvin would just find a way to resign Sheets things would be fine. Of course Melvin has insulted Sheets by not even negotiating so Sheets will probably be on his way to ny as well now. I guess its time for more dumpster diving while the cubs get Peavy for scraps. Thanks alot Melvin for ruining our team.
  18. Rumors have Wood close to a deal with the Indians. Waiting on CC could really cost the Brewers big time. This game of musical chairs may just leave the Brewers on the outside looking in.
  19. Maybe Ben is tired of getting treated like a second fiddle by management and fans alike. Its one thing to make CC the priority, its another to not even make Sheets an offer. He is probably still upset we didnt offer him a contract extension last offseason. I just home Ben doesnt go to the yankees as I dont think my heart can take that.
  20. We are really in danger of having an awful offseason because we are sitting around waiting on CC. Its about time we threw in the towel and focused on Sheets and Wood/Fuentes.
  21. I cant believe we would even consider adding Hernandez. Can we actually start hearing some rumors about some good players headed our way.
  22. Hey Doug its time to wake up before its too late. How many more Julios are you gonna sign while other teams make moves on real pitchers. Wood would be a perfect pick up for the Brewers and if its Cleveland that is signing him I am sure its an offer we can beat. Throw in the fact that Wood would probably love to stick it to the cubs and its a perfect match. Waiting on CC is gonna destroy this offseason for the Brewers. We will miss out on Sheets and Wood and end up looking like fools in the process.
  23. Ive been known to be a little over the top with my criticisms but I am very worried about what this team will look like if we lose CC and Sheets. In my opinion Melvin seems to be doing way too much dumpster diving in his signings while Sabathia strings him along. We need to move on from CC and sign Sheets and Wood/Fuentes and we will be ready to have a good season. Watching the Cubs on the verge of trading for Peavy for scraps and seeing Melvin probably missing out on CC and Sheets has me in a panic. I really hope Im wrong and Melvin has a plan but as of now I dont see one.
  24. Does Melvin have a plan to improve this team or is he just gonna sign a bunch of journeyman and wait while sabathia strings him along?
  25. I have a major problem with this deal. How exactly are the Cubs with no farm system to speak of able to trade for the likes of Rich Harden and now Peavy who is an absolute ace starter for absolutely nothing. We had to give up a ton for a half season of CC but the Cubs give up squat for 3 years of Peavy. How are we gonna compete with the Cubs when they are adding Peavy and we are most likely losing Sheets and CC. This offseason is going disgustingly bad so far.
