  1. I ahte to say it but I dont see this team getting out of this slide. If we cant even beat a lousy team like Texas who can we beat? This team was horrid on the road last year and this year appears to be more of the same. I really hope I am wrong but i expect the team to be below 500 within the next two weeks. At this rate I can truly see this team winning like 75 games.
  2. The Brewers seem to be the only ones who think he can play left field. Everwhere else I read says he is an average first baseman and more likely a DH. They better hope he can become at least an average left fielder and bash his way to the majors because Heyward and Parker both have the chance to be outstanding.
  3. Rydogg would you really be happy if LaPorta turned into Scott Hatteberg? What if Heyward really is a lefthanded Derek Lee or if Parker is another Lincecum or Oswalt who are similar in stuff and stature to him? Well if that turns out to be the case this pick was a total reach and a complete shame. Listen do I know what will be with any of these guys. No but when I hear Heyward being compared to Derek Lee and Parker getting compared to Oswalt it really makes me wonder why we picked LaPorta. Only time will tell if I am right and I certainly hope to be proven wrong but I do not like this pick and fear that the days of picking kids with high upsides might be over for this organization and that would be a shame.
  4. Oakland has been good at producing pitchers but terrible at developing everyday players with the exception of Swisher in the last five years. The Brewers philosophy under Jack Z has always been high ceiling guys which I am not sure LaPorta is.
  5. Maybe LaPorta has upside maybe he doesnt but when i hear him being compared to the likes of Greg Colburn and Scott Hatteberg it really makes me question the selection. If Hatteberg is a legit comparison then the Brewers made a terrible pick. I personally prefer the high upside high school kids like Fielder and Gallardo versus the polished finished products with little upside like Antone Williamson and Chad Green.
  6. Colbyjack compared Heyward to a lefthanded Derek Lee. Meanwhile Keith Law compared LaPorta to Scott Hatteberg. This is clearly not a guy that should be picked seventh overall when potential stars such as Heyward and Parker were still on the board. Like I said earlier this draft is way too reminiscent of the Bando days where we were drafting possible major leaguers with little upside versus taking the kids with star potential. I really hope this draft is just an anomoly because if this is the new philosophy then failure is right around the corner. The draft is all about taking the kids with the biggest upside in hopes that some of them will turn into stars. That is how we landed the likes of Prince Fielder and Yovani Gallardo instaed of Antone Williamson and Chad Green. Yes we have potential misses like Mark Rogers (who I still have hope for) but if you dont try to be great you will be stuck in mediocrity forever. I really expect better from Jack Z and Doug Melvin and that is why this draft is so disappointing.
  7. Farris is not taking the spot of Weeks in any way shape or form. This seems like a draft that will yield some major league players but no stars. I prefer the philosophy of drafting high ceiling talent instaed of guys that have reached their potential. That is how we wound up with guys like Fielder, Gallardo, and Inman and its the way to win. Taking easy to sign college seniors like LaPorta and scrappy middle infielders with little power like Farris is the way to have a lineup like Oakland throws out there every year. I truly hope this isnt a sign of things to come because Jack Z has done a great job before this lousy draft.
  8. I look at the seventh pick in the draft as a chcnce to get a potential superstar. Guys like Porcello, Parker, and Heyward have that type of potential while LaPorta seems like an easy sign with out the potential to get much better. I think we made a big mistake not taking one of the high school kids with all star potential. I am also not real excited about any of the first few picks. I really hope that this organization doesnt become like Oakland where we pass up the high ceiling high school players for the Scott Hattebergs of the world.
  9. Im just wondering if this draft signals a change in the teams drafting philosophy? Keith Law compared Laporta to a Greg Colburn/ Scott Hatteberg type of player. This completely sounds like the type of guy that Sal Bando would have picked. This type of low ceiling drafting is what got this team into the mess that I had hoped was cleaned up. With the seventh pick in the draft you have to take the guy with the most upside a guy like Parker or Heyward. Both of those guys have the chance to be stars and LaPorta seems like a guy that wont get much better. This team has had success drafting guys like Prince Fielder that had the upside of major league all stars. To take the moneyball approach and draft guys that dont have high ceilings is a sure way to guarantee mediocrity for years to come. Seriously if LaPortas upside is that of Scott Hatteberg then it is indeed a terrible pick and has me questioning if the Brewers are going to take the low ceiling college players in the future. All in all this pick is very disappointing.
  10. Keith Law said that LaPorta is likely to be a Greg Colburn/ Scott Hatteberg type of player. Is this really true because if it is this is just an awful pick. I thought this organization drafts kids with high celings not polished college kids with no upside. I really hate this draft. It looks like a moneyball type of draft to me where we can end up with players that make it to the majors but guys that have no upside. This change in philosophy is both shocking and overly disappointing. Why didnt we draft a kid like Parker or Heyward who by all accounts have star potential. Taking an easy to sign senior like LaPorta who has little upside is not the way to draft. Very disappointing indeed.
  11. I really hope we land a power bat like Moustakas or Heyward. The system could really use some power for the future.
  12. I for one will be bitterly disappointed if the pick turns out be Aumont. If we have to pick a pitcher I would definitely prefer Parker and it would be a huge mistake to pass on a kid like Heyward for Aumont. This system desperately needs some power bats in the system. Also I have read that Attanasio is willing to spend so it will be really disappointing if they pick Aumont because he is signable. I also really hope that they arent picking the kid because he is Canadian. Also regarding Aumont I believe I read some less than flattering critiques from scouts on baseball america regarding the last time he pitched. It said he had a lot of trouble with mechanics and had trouble finding the plate. I truly truly hope that they dont go in this direction.
  13. geothite, Chad Jones is gonna be a tough sign as he is an elite football player headed to LSU.
  14. I really hope we land Moustakas since the system really needs a power bat. If not him Heyward would be a good fallback option. I also wouldnt mind Parker despite the fact that he is a HS righthander. Weiters might be a solid choice but I would rather not spend so much on him.
  15. All I can say is that the frustration with this team never seems to end. If this team cant win this lousy division this year you really have to wonder if this team will ever win again. This division is just awful and anything less than a playoff berth is a colossal failure.
  16. Weiters just doesnt seem productive enough for me. I would rather not spend big money on him. I really hope Moustakas falls and if he doesnt I would take Parker.
  17. Here is another reason for me to vent. Everyone I work with and know knows me as huge Brewers fan in New York. I am constantly wearing Brewers sweatshirts or shirts or jerseys around and was feeling great when we were playing well. For once I wasnt hearing crap all the time about how could I root for the Brewers. Now I have to go in to work tomorrow and hear how bad we are (atleast from the Mets fans I know) because I was bragging about how good this team is when we were playing well. Losing sucks and I want and expect better from this team. The talent is there and it better start showing starting tomorrow.
  18. We have to hope that Rickie and Billy pick it up or this team is finished. This lineup has the potential to score a lot of runs yet we arent. If you look position by position we are average to above average offensively at every position potentially. This team definitely has talent and that is what is most frustrating. The days of John vanderwal and Jeffery hammonds are over and this team needs to show once again what its capable of. There is no reason in the world why this team shouldnt or cant win at least 90 games in this division. Things better improve soon or Ned will have to pay with his job. Enough is enough!
  19. I am sick and tired of having to scoreboard watch to see that the rest of the division is losing. This has the chance to be the worst division in baseball history. I want to win because the Brewers are good not because the rest of the division sucks worse. We are seriously much better than this and I hope we start to show that soon. Hart needs the chance to play every day and Gross should also be given a shot before Gwynn and Mench. I hope I never have to see Mench bat in a Brewer uniform again. There is just no reason to have 6 outfielders on a team. Mench should have been released after last season when he showed nothing in a Brewers uniform. It would also help if we werent play three terrible players (Counsell, Graffannino, and Counsell) 3 million each per year.
  20. I also want to point out that Mench is one of the worst players I have ever seen. I remember people pointing out when he was first acquired that he doesnt strike out much. Well that is meaningless when he never walks and weakly grounds out on pitches that he has no business swinging at. As far as Bill Hall is concerned I dont know if he is trying too hard to justify his contract or what but he looks completely lost. He is completely pulling off everything. Unfortunately we cannot afford to give him some time off because Gwynn is just not a suitable replacement. We have to hope that Billy gets out of his slump and Rickie gets his act together or this team is doomed. At this point I dont even expect to win games. I watch and hope for the best but expect the worst. Getting our hopes up with that 24-10 start was one of the nastiest teases I have ever seen as a Brewer fan. I apologize for rambling on but watching this team is just so depressing at this point. I hope things turn around soon because I cant take much more of this.
  21. This team is getting me seriously depressed. Can this team ever score other than on Fielder solo home runs. Can this team ever get a clutch hit? Apparently this team is going to underachieve again. I wish if we were gonna suck we hadnt gotten off to that great start. At least then I wouldnt have had my hopes dashed yet again by this team. Wake me up when this team learns how to win!
  22. I cant take much more of this. Obviously this team is going to underachieve yet again. There is something seriously wrong if this team cant win this lousy division. Does this team ever score other than on solo home runs. Can this team ever get a clutch hit? Seriously enough is enough.
  23. I personally would rather have Gwynn than Melky. Living in New York I have seen more than a fair share of cabrera and I can tell you that he stinks. He is no more than a fifth outfielder.
  24. This would be a terrible deal. Milledge would pollute the clubhouse and Joe Smith has had two good months in the majors. Let Billy play and get out of his slump, he will be just fine.
  25. Its sad that this team just hasnt learned how to win on the road or beat decent teams. This month has been soooooo disappointing and I really hope that the team stops losing soon.
