  1. As much as I dont like Vargas, Suppan deserves as much if not more criticism than CV. Just look at these numbers since June 1: Suppan 5 innings 3 earned, 6 innings 3 earned, 5 innings 5 earned, 4.2 innings 9 earned, 6.1 earnings 4 earned, 5 innings 4 earned, 7 innings 4 earned. That means that he has had one quality start since June 1. Vargas' numbers 6 innings 5 earned, 5 innings 4 earned, 5 innings 4 earned, 6 innings 2 earned, 5.1 innings 3 earned, and may 31 6 innings 2 earned. That means that Vargas has had 2 quality starts in this time frame. For the season Suppan is 8-7 with a 4.9 era 1.47 whip and in his 18 starts has pitched 112 innings. That is an average of 6 innings per start. Vargas on the other hand is 6-2 with a 4.52 era and 1.49 whip and pitched 83 innings with two relief appearances among his 83.2 innings pitched which means he is averging a little less than 6 innings per start. Bottom line is these stats tell you that Suppan and Vargas are very similar and both deserve equal criticism, in fact Suppan deserves more criticism since he is making over 10 mil a season for his mediocre work.
  2. I dont like Monroe at all but he would have been a decent return for capellan. I would trade them back Cody to get Monroe.
  3. Living in New York I get to see Abreu play alot. He is completely washed up. The guy can barely get the ball out of the infield and plays an absolutely horrible right field. The only thing he does well is draw walks but we already have a guy like that in Gabe Gross who is a far better athlete and outfielder than Abreu. Abreu is absolutely the last thing this team needs.
  4. X ellence he doesnt have to earn a spot because his name is Gwynn which is gold in MLB. Really makes no sense to me whatsoever. The guy cant get the ball out of the infield yet he is first in line to get called up.
  5. I hope Gwynn does well so we can trade him but I dont see any way that happens. The guy has absolutely no power whatsoever and that will never change. With Estrada or Jenks hitting behind Prince the lineup is in huge trouble. If Hall is out a month or longer and we dont trade for a guy like Dye I think the playoffs are a long shot.
  6. Gwynn is living on his last name and nothing else. If he wasnt the son of a hall of famer he wouldnt be on this team. The guy just cant hit. Its really that simple. Without Hall this lineup is in big trouble. How about trading Gwynn and Mench for Dye? The White Sox are desperate for a CF and Gwynn for all his offensive shortcomings is a good defensive CF.
  7. I would make this trade in a second. Jenkins is far worse than Griffey and Gwynn and Cody have almost no value in my mind. Unfortunately no way in the world does Cincinnatti do a deal like this.
  8. As long as everyone is ripping Vargas let me point out that Suppan has actually been worse than Vargas this season. What a waste of big money on a number five starter.
  9. Gwynn is a guy that cant hit the ball out of the infield. He has no future as an everyday player whatsoever. If Hall is out for a long time we need to make a trade for a righthanded hitting outfielder to replace him.
  10. I truly hope that Hall can come back in a week or else we need to make a trade for another righthanded hitting outfielder. Gwynn is just not an adequate replacement for more than a few days. Losing hall for an extended period might just be the blow that destroys the Brewers playoff chances.
  11. Losing 3 out of 4 to the Pirates is flat out embarassing. To make matters worse the Pirates play the Cubs this weekend and wont be pitching Snell or Gorzellany. The game we had to win was tuesday against Yeoman who is a journeyman scrub that looked like he was throwing batting practice. We better win minimum 2 of 3 against Washington.
  12. I really wonder why anyone wants Gwynn on this team. Hot start aside the guy is a 4th or 5th outfielder at best. This team cant afford to lose Hall for more than a few days. He is completely irreplaceable on this team.
  13. I dont think you can underestimate the job that Attanasio has done with this team. He has consistently raised the payroll and for the most part let Melvin and Jack Z do there jobs. The only issue I have with him is the Suppan signing. I truly believe that Attanasio was watching last years playoffs and went out on his own to sign Suppan. I dont see any way that Melvin would have given him that contract. Suppan is basically a journeyman run of the mill 4th or 5th starter that is being grossly overpaid. If this contract prevents us from signing Sheets I will be very very upset as Sheets is a true number one starter that this team cant afford to lose. Its up to Attanasio to pony up and keep Sheets in a Brewer uniform for many years to come.
  14. I just dont see how keeping Vargas in this rotation instead of gallardo or Villy helps this team in any way. We should have Gallardo start and just limit his innings. We can also skip his turn in the rotation a few times to save his arm. Vargas is just an awful pitcher and he has no business in the rotation at this point. I feel the same way about Suppan but I realize with his outrageous contract we will just let him stink it up for the next 3 and a half years.
  15. Out of the guys currently in the rotation i would say that Capuano is the second best pitcher followed by Bush, Suppan and vargas. Gallardo and Villy would easily be the second and third starters on this team but for some unexplained reason we will continue to have them pitch out of the bullpen.
  16. I would rank my confidence in each pitcher as follows: 1 Sheets 2 Villanueva 3 Cordero 4 Gallardo 5 Capuano 6 Turnbow 7 Bush 8 Wise 9 Vargas 10 Suppan 11 Spurling 12 Shouse I would say that I am very confident with the first three, fairly confident in Yo, Cappy, Turnbow (even though he makes me nervous) Bush and Wise and very little confidence in the rest.
  17. The guy the Brewers faced today was a jorneyman scrub who looked like he was throwing batting practice yet we continuously let him off the hook. With Zambrano facing a horrible Nats team the lead looks like it will be down to 5 1/2. Losing is one thing but playing little league defense and letting a journeyman shut you down is very discouraging. Also has anyone noticed that Princes average is down to 275 and he really seems to be pressing.
  18. The guy is clearly playing hurt yet I see mostly negative comments about him. I for one appreciate Rickie and what he will mean to the future of the team. He will be a star player but not this year due to the wrist issues. Those of you that doubt Rickie Weeks will be eating lots of crow by this time next year.
  19. I get the feeling that Jack Z loves the job he has and doesnt really want to be a GM. He knows how loved he is in the organization and I hope he stays for a long time to come.
  20. I am devestated by this loss. I really have no words to explain how depressed I am right now. I fear that this is going to set off another one of those streaks for the team. Tomorrow is the biggest game of the year in my opinion. We desperately need Ben to be stellar and we just have to win this game. This is by far the worst loss of the season. I just want to cry from a game like this.
  21. I said it when we signed him and I will say it again: Suppan just isnt good. The contract we gave him was ridiculous and I really hope it doesnt affect our ability to pay guys like JJ and Prince when the time comes. All the blame for Suppan goes directly to the owner because Melvin would never pay that kind of money for a mediocre pitcher. I really hope that this doesnt stop us from resigning Sheets next year because he is a true number one starter while Suppan is nothing more than a mediocre 5.
  22. How much longer can we rely on the complete ineptness of the division. This team needs to get better and now. Yes Verlander is great and all but getting no hit is embarrassing. This team has been playing terribly for over a month. Obviously the fast start was a complete fluke and we cant live off that forever. I never ever want to see both Graffannino and Counsell in the lineup on the same day much less hitting 1st and 2nd. They are basically automatic outs despite getting a few hits against a minor league pitching staff in Texas. Yost continues to show his ineptitude on a daily basis. Losing 20 out of 30 games is just not acceptable yet Yost doesnt seem to be bothered at all. Its time for him to go and he can take Counsellino with him. Small market teams should not be paying 3 mil a year for the likes of these two and Mench who all suck beyond comprehension. Also Mark A shouldnt have forced Melvin to sign Suppan who is as average as it gets. 10.5 mil a yr for a stiff like Suppan is just plain stupid for a small market team and better not be the reason why we dont resign Cordero or Sheets who are all star performers not average scrubs.
  23. I dont agree at all that Braun needs a rest. He had several weeks off when he was injured earlier in the year. Playing Counsell and Graffanino the same night is never ever a good idea. This is the type of stuff that tells you that Ned is in over his head. Nothing like having your two worst offensive players hitting first and second.
  24. We wont know for a few years but this draft seems very light in terms of high ceiling guys. I hope I am wrong but I am not impressed at all by this draft.
  25. Same old Brewers. Its really that simple. The only difference is they had us believing with that fast start. Now that is all just a distant memory. If this team was going to suck I wish they wouldnt have teased us all by getting off to that fast start.
