  1. First off, I would like to bump this thread up and give Yost some props for the fine job he did last night. Hear the cheers when he came in to take out Mota? Its almost as if people in the stands were willing Ned to do the right thing, and he did. And whether you were at the game or not, if you believe that every option that Yost had for the 12th was about equally as dreadful If you believe every other option was equally dreadful then that is your opinion. Its just not the correct opinion, as I don't believe its mathmatically possible for 4 options to be equally dreadful.
  2. (though I don't get why that is the case) Bad defense, less than ideal attitude (anyone who hates their father with the passion Prince hates his with has a little adjusting to do, unless of course he was abused).
  3. ugh.. just because Cub fans mock us, doesn't mean we have to stoop to their level and being tools. Ironically, I think you just stooped to their level by calling them tools.
  4. Well put by FTJ and Buc. My feeling is that Zambrano should take as much time as needed to come back at full strength. If that so happens to coincide with YoGa's return then I consider it a wash. 6.5 and climbing, hope the Cubs haven't started looking over their shoulder the way the Brewers did last year.
  5. I am hoping the Brewers do not extend Prince Fielder out longer than 5 years, or give him the type of money Boras thinks he's going to get. While I like him now (hence the jersey purchase last year) and hope his production picks up a bit, I don't see him as a long term Brewer anymore. His defense is way below average, and the system is bringing up more than suitable replacements.
  6. Lineup for those who haven't seen: 2B Craig Counsell SS JJ Hardy LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder RF Corey Hart 3B Russell Branyan CF Mike Cameron C Jason Kendall P Ben Sheets I wonder how many tins of chew Bill Hall goes through sitting on the bench.
  7. I am 3-3 (one road loss). Good thing I can't make it to the game tonight. Keep it going Stevo and Glennron!
  8. It's not always a foregone conclusion that one bad inning means another one is invaribley going to follow. Good point. However, keep in mind Tavarez struggled against the bottom of the order in the 11th and had the heart of the order coming up in the 12th. If only they had opened the roof - Prince's shot would have gone over the fence, and 4 pages of Yost bashing would have been saved for another day.
  9. I don't see what being at the game vs. watching on TV has to do with it. I'll be at the game tonight. Does that mean my analysis and opinions will make more sense than someone who watches on TV? Obviously can't speak for everyone, but I feel more in tune and "involved" with the game when I am there in person. The reason why I said what I did was because I talked to many, many people after the game (Twins and Brewer fans alike), and the consensus was the same with every one... Tavarez should not have pitched in the 12th. Only here did I find people with the opinion that Tavarez was a fine choice to pitch that inning. I'm just curious how many defenders were at the game. The disappointment in the decision hits harder when at MP, imo. As for analysis and opinion, I'm not sure I can take anyone who defends the Tavarez in the 12th decision seriously.
  10. Look at Ben Sheets... but even he has managed to not get hurt while on the base paths. Everyone knock on wood, NOW!
  11. I acknowledge that Taverez was a bad option. But, there were no good ones. I agree, but there were better ones. I have no problem trying to buy an extra inning, and save your next bad option in the bullpen for another inning or another day. I get the feeling you were not at the game, so this argument makes sense to you. I was at the game, and read Ned's comments following the game (trying to win tonight), so this argument does not make sense to me. Make sense?
  12. Brewers, I beg of you, please do not let Kevin Mench drive in the game-winning run ala Wes Helms (2). Please!!! wOOgie - I love the info, but that's a lot of scrolling. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. Um, Tavarez shouldn't have been on the roster in the first place. I suppose that's Ned's fault, too. It's not Ned's fault he is on the roster. It is Ned's fault he was used in the 12th inning. That was all Ned, can't blame anyone else for that one. See the difference? P.S. See DiFelice pitch last night? Better option than a gassed Tavarez.
  14. Time to leap the overachieving Marlins today. I still think the Brewers have a shot at the Cubs. Hurry back Yo!
  15. I think Russell Bunyan now owns the longest foul ball in Miller Park history.
  16. I don't see any good options there, so I am going to go for the groundball pitcher. If someone disagrees that is fine, but I don't think it is that hard to see the logic in the move. All 4 choice were a recipe for disaster. Um, Tavarez shouldn't have started the inning in the first place. That is my point. Therefore the groundball argument does not make a counter argument to my point.
  17. Calling this a must win series is setting yourself up for about a 50% chance of being very disappointed. I'm already disappointed, so what's another helping. Now I have to go clean up after the mess I made when I saw tonight's lineup. Enjoy the "game."
  18. Either way it's getting old so I guess I'll just shut up now and secretly think he's a good manager. Buc, I don't mind arguing the facts and points, but IMHO its time for Startingcatcher to get a chance.
  19. Wang out until September, Hank livid (CBS Sportsline). Might be my favorite so far.
  20. Perhaps it's time for us to just agree we think different things are important in determining competence and go onto something more fun to argue about. Like how long before we catch the Cubs in the standings. Stalemate? Agreed, time to move on.
  21. I like the way the NFL compiles its All-Stars much better with a weighted system of fan, player, and coach votes. The product of putting everything in the fans' hands is what we see in the American league. If the Yankees had been winning up to this point, the entire starting lineup would be from Boston or NY.
  22. Good post Diskono Nothing is done in a vaccum of one game. "I was trying to win this game. I don't think about tomorrow at all in that situation." - Ned Yost
  23. Since it seems to have been established that wins and losses are not a good way to determine if a manager is any good a this job I don't see why it matters. I battled the W-L argument case against Francona (unsuccessfully I see), because there was no evidence of him pulling a yost (def. mismanaged situations) anywhere to be found. Your argument was simply based on W-L, mine is based on years of visual evidence. Your argument that Francona is not a better manager than Yost is because of the W-L record in his Philly years. How about Larry Brown's record with the New York Knicks? Does that year prove he is not any better of a NBA coach than Terry Stotts? Of course not. I can tell you exactly where Ned Yost goes wrong. Can you tell me where Francona went wrong in Philly other than his eventual W-L record? This is the reason I argued that W-L does not necessarily make a manager good, because it isn't the only indicator. IMO, luck also has a lot to do with successfully leading a team, and that is another thing Ned (as well as myself) is short on.
  24. The reasoning given for why Francona was better was because he was better with the media. That was only one reason, not the reason. If you need more see championships, bullpen management, and in-game decision making in addition to the handling of the press. This, of course means that all the hand wringing over Yost is pointless. Its not pointless imo. I don't like to boo, but I had no choice on Saturday. The manager simply did nothing but gamble when he needed to do something else. He did his job poorly, and that alone has a strong point.
