  1. I've asked this before but why do people keep saying Zambrono is getting worn down or is injury prone? Granted he had a slight injury last season but one season with one injury is not a trend. Is there any reason to think he really isn't going to be his usual workhorse self other than wishful thinking?
  2. I look like Bea Arthur JR and am a Yostian so I guess I fit the mold but Kevin Costner? If I was to play Robin Hood I would be capable of an English accent.
  3. ... and everyone on FTJ's enemies list just slid down a notch. I could think of no other way to say Homer is number 2.
  4. They are still in the lead. 20% to 17%. I have done a lot of work acquiring those beers... I am pretty sure I shouldn't just be handing them over to people willy nilly. Bill Gates didn't get where he is giving everyone his extra beers. So you're just doing it for the beer? I can see it now. FTJ sitting in a corner plastered, drool running down his chin...all three of them... mumbling to himself about losing his hamster as a child. It's gonna be great.
  5. They should be about the same as last year and will have spending money with the new ownership to make a deadline trade. Everyone seems to be saying they have less depth. Money doesn't help if you don't have the players to trade. They are going to be good but I think it will be a lot closer race than most people project.
  6. Is Zambrano really showing sign s of breaking down or is that just wishful thinking on our part? I don't know what type of conditioning program he has but I doubt it's any worse than Sheets was and he was still a pretty good contributor last year.
  7. Very glad to hear that from Melvin... not that it wasn't already pretty obvious. 2009 will be a huge season for Rickie, and I will again set myself up for disappointment by hoping for that breakout year. glad I'm not the only one in the I believe he's going to break out boat. While I'm in agreement with you it's hard to keep hearing the "this year will be huge for him" or the ever famous "he's in a make or break year," without cringing. This is about the third such year like that.
  8. When I first got my border collie she would run three laps around the house, bark at the bowl each lap then stand over it with one foot in the bowl until the other dog was done eating then use the foot in the bowl to slide it across the floor then eat. Talk about annoying.
  9. Homer by the time your done buying beer you may as well have just bought the photographer. This way is more fun though. Since I'm the one that started it my sincere apologies for running you broke.
  10. Doesn't catch seem too active a word for getting a cold? It's not like you went out and found one to catch. It moe or less just comes to you. but sorry to hear (no pun intended) you're under the weather.
  11. So far they are in the lead. They have 19% to Todd and Mandy's 18%. If they hold this margin you owe me a beer. Good luck to them.
  12. so he's an oddball as far as the AKC is concerned (not that I care). Who cares what the AKC thinks? They have done more damage to dogs by emphasizing physical traits than any single puppy mill ever did. I have a friend who has a shiba and they really are strong little buggers aren't they? He uses his to pull him on a skateboard. Dog just loves it. The only setback is they are not endurance dogs. They will tire a little easier than normal and they tend to have sensitive skin. Might I suggest a little vitamin D & K in the diet?
  13. Somehow your dog got it stuck in her head that is what you want. I generally don't buy into dogs doing things on their own to make the pack leader happy or do things as a sign they want to make you happy. Doing extra credit without the express written consent of the pack leader would not be viewed by the dog as something that would make you happy. As far as they are concerned doing anything without permission is potentially trouble no matter what it is. They look to the leader to tell them what makes them happy. They will do things to make themselves happy and not stop if the leader doesn't tell them to but that is different than doing unasked things for the master. After a dog understands their leader they may bring them things or act a certain way they know is acceptable without being told but not decide on their own what makes the leader happy. Doing things without permission would indicate the dog believes it is the leader not trying to please the leader. If it's a habit you want to break you have to let the dog know it's not what you want. If it was my dog I would hold the bowl while the dog is eating then when she tries to take the last bits out of the bowl I would say no. If she continues to do it take the bowl away. The other option would be to take the bowl away before she gets to the point where she takes the last few out. After a while she will forget that habit or get the point it's not what you want. Shibas are cool though aren't they. Does yours look like a fox? I have an akita which is basically the same dog only bigger and tend to come in more colors than shibas.
  14. It's why I cringe anytime I see someone let a dog lick their face and chuckle when I hear someone say a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's.
  15. On the field I look at him a little like a rich man's Jose Valentine. A guy who does some great things then screws up an easy play to make all his heroics seem smaller than they should. He's far better a player than Valentine was but both could make you so happy and so mad in the same game. Off the field I am a little disappointed in his whining about his salary and stuff like that but overall don't really care as long as it doesn't effect his performance on it. Other than that he seems like a good family man who treats most people with respect. What more can you ask of him? I'm happy he's ours and when he leaves will not be angry with him. Just won't cheer for him in another uniform like I do in ours.
  16. An akita. It's hard to see from the picture but he looked like a little tank as a pup. Now he looks like a regular size tank.
  17. http://i684.photobucket.com/albums/vv208/ThurstonFluff/z.jpg guess who won a cute puppy photo contest
  18. I think you're right Ennder. Personal opinion here but I think he relaxed a little and wasn't really prepared for the season the way he should have been. His weight went up, his production went down, his defense didn't improve and may have got worse and he got distracted with things like salary and vegetables. Perhaps it came to easy the previous year, maybe his age showed some, maybe he was just going through a transition in his personal life but it just looked like he wasn't prepared for the season like he should have been. I don't think that will happen again. Young guys need to learn lessons. Some of them have to be learned the hard way. If a .829 OPS, 34 HR and 102RBI is the learning year I can live with that.
  19. I'll miss him but am happy he gets to do something he loves for the team he grew up with. His pimping of this site during Brewer games was what got me turned on to this site. Though many may never forgive him for that transgression I will always be eternally grateful to him for it.
  20. My 100 pound Akita accidentally did a back flip. He has all the grace and elegance of a tug boat and I can't for the life of me figure out how he did it.
  21. They didn't win their division by 10 games, but we probably played a little over our heads in 2008. I disagree. The Brewers didn't have a single player perform above his ability and a few below it. The Cubs OTH had several. If either of the two played over their heads last season it was the Cubs.
  22. Is it just me or is Baltimore actually doing things that make sense for the first time in about 20 years?
  23. I don't think you will find any great bargains by going back. There are rules to selling assets during bankruptcy. They can't just sell everything for pennies on the dollar since those assets represent a portion of what their creditors are owed. That is money they owe other people not their own anymore. The only real good going out of business sales are ones not under bankruptcy protection.
  24. I don't see who was going to catch them anyway--they probably win the division by at least 10 games if they are healthy. If Zambrano goes down and Dempster's 2008 turns out to be a fluke, then they might be in trouble, but that seems like wishful thinking for the rest of the NL Central. They didn't win last year by 10 games and they had some career years and few injuries. I don't see this season being any better than last and probably worse. They are going to be in a race all year long. Then again I loved Yost so what do I know?
