  1. When he got here the book on him was he was a feast or famine type of hitter. We have to learn to live with the down times with that type of hitter. It might be harder to do that when he's new here and we haven't seen the good times yet but given the type of hitter he is it was possible he'd start out on a cold streak. I'm not as worried about him as I am young players like Huira or Urias who don't have an established record of being a league average hitter. The good part about him is his defense is always there.
  2. They should lower the mound instead of moving it back. It was done once and it worked why not do it again?
  3. Joe West just won a defamation suit against Paul Lo Duca. Normally I'd look at this as a he said she said thing but when the court agrees it was a lie and West can prove the story couldn't have happened like he said it's pretty safe to say it was a lie Why would anyone lie about something like that? https://sports.yahoo.com/umpire-joe-west-awarded-500-234254066.html
  4. The ones that have healthy pitchers. The ones where the pitcher's arm is falling off from overuse are probably a lost cause anyway.
  5. It doesn't look like anything at this time. Knebel could become an all star this year and we still won't know if it was a good or bad deal. Whatever Knebel is this season it's only part of the equation. It will take at least a year or two to see what we have in Crawford. Even then given the money we would have spent on Knebel was spent in other areas that may have been more of a need given the depth of our pitching. So we can't even evaluate the success measuring Crawford and Knebel in a vacuum.
  6. Keep in mind Knebel was sent to the minors at one point for poor performance. The risk wasn't just how he would come back from surgery but which Knebel was coming back.
  7. I don't think he was rushed as much as he went from playing every day to inconsistent playing time while playing multiple positions. Like I said earlier, now he knows where he's going to play and will get the lions share of time there. It may take some time for him to adjust to the highest level, as it does for most young players, but I still think he'll turn into a serviceable every day player. Not having Arcia looking over his shoulder may help him become that.
  8. Does he though? He has had a few nice signs (Gio and Miley), but outside of that it hasn't been overly successful. His prized guys from last offseason (Lindblom and Lauer) have been horrendous to date. Burnes was in his first draft so hard to know how much he should even be credited for that. Devin Williams, Adrian Houser, Brandon Woodruff, Brent Suter, and Josh Hader are all guys who were here before he became the GM. I am not trying to hate on his ability to build a pitching staff, it just doesn't seem like he has not done an overly impressive job. There are bound to be busts when forced to put a staff together via the bargain bin. What he hasn't done is mortgage the future on major contracts like Jake Arrieta or Yu Darvish. He's also been pretty good knowing when not to trade. Part of knowing pitching is knowing what you have and not getting rid of it. Stearns didn't trade players like Devin Williams, Brandon Woodruff or Corbin Burnes for players like Sonny Gray, Chris Archer or Jose Quintana. However he got the players what we've seen is a steady stream of good pitching. I think he's been here long enough to give some credit for knowing how to find pitching.
  9. Stearns seems to know what he's doing when it comes to pitching so I'm not all that worried about what team he gets it from. I doubt he cares about the hype generated by another team or media outlets preferring instead of use the metrics he's relied on since he's been here.
  10. Maybe this helps Urias relax a little knowing he's the guy even if he has a bad stretch. This is the first time since he's been here where his role is well defined. I don't think Arcia was a very good fit for the role he had here so it's probably best to move on. All things considered I'd rather those two pitchers than a utility player who didn't really fit the role he was in.
  11. When teams like the Dodgers make as much as they are in the old system it's hard to change. I don't know for sure but I imagine the league as a whole would have to agree to changing blackout rules and other things to allow any single team from going to a more open ended system.
  12. We haven't agreed on many things over the years but we do here. I also do the buy one service for a couple months then change to another thing. Why pay for five services at once when I an pay for one at a time and not miss anything? My fear is they'll wise up to that and require longer contracts. Until then I'm going one at a time. As far as watching Brewer games I've always been more of a radio fan anyway. Baseball lends itself so well to radio even if it was free I'd probably only watch a handful of games anyway. It's summer I don't want to be sitting in the house or a bar. If MLB would think about more than tv revenue they could grow the game so much more than they are now.
  13. Just one point of note as someone else who got J&J, the full effect for prevention of infection was found at 14 days. It was 28 days to reach the 'no one who did get COVID following the shot died or was hospitalized' threshold. That's what I meant by full effect. It hasn't shown to do as well as the others in preventing it but does very well keeping one from getting a severe case of it. Which is why everyone should still follow other guidelines until this is totally under control. If anyone is wondering about getting the JJ shot or waiting for one of the others that have a higher rate of prevention the JJ one was tested during a time when more variants were in the population and it tested well for the variants. The others may do as well but haven't been tested during a time when the variants were out there yet.
  14. Got the JJ shot on Thursday. I was lethargic the next day and my arm was sore of two days but that was it. It takes 28 days for it to take full effect but it's nice to have it out of the way. Like someone else said, we all still have to follow protocols but some protection is better than none.
  15. I wonder what happens if they move it to a state that does something similar?
  16. The season started by a spectacular defensive play for the first out and was won by capitalizing on defensive miscues by the other team. I don't think anyone could have illustrated the value of sound defense better than that one game did. The best part is, we can look forward to that all. year. long.
  17. I'm getting the JJ one today. Good to know I have hangover to look forward to. Might as well drink the night away tonight.
  18. I'm always overly optimistic so I try not to get into predictions. I will say this season I'm more confident than usual. More than just adequate pitching depth is such an unusual feeling for a Brewer fan.
  19. It'd be funny if not so serious. One thing I always wondered though. Why on Earth would you allow them to search your car if you know there is something illegal in it?
  20. New Orleans Is Sinking by The Tragically Hip might be the best song hardly anybody ever heard of.
  21. I made mine. One year for Christmas I got a arts and crafts kit that had all the pieces to stitch together a wallet. It also had a stamper thing that I could use to imprint the leather. I chose the rodeo cowboy riding a bucking bronco.
  22. Unless an injury is obviously serious in spring training I don't really care. He's bound to have some aches and pains. I don't even want to call them injuries. Just aches and pains that the Brewers are rightfully being careful with.
  23. He was #7 in AA, but #19 in AAA and in college. So I would venture it would be #7 which has been vacated by Sogard. What happens when we trade for Sogard in July?
  24. I don't know if it's as easy as to see what they do there and think that was what they'd do here. Do players get pushed in their new team in a way that is detrimental to them? Was there something one team did that made them better at dealing with certain players? We've all seen players suddenly do well after a mover and vice versa. Obviously I'm not saying those guys would have been great, or even average here but it's not as simple as saying since they all busted there the same would have happened here.
  25. The saying you got to take the good with the bad always bugged me. Like someone needs to be forced to take the good because they already got the benefit of the bad? Seems like someone was counseling a sadomasochistic or something.
