    I'll take half a season of Miz and the extra year of control over a draft pick any day.

    The way I view it is the original picks are the all-stars. I view the replacements as playing in the all-star game not all-stars themselves. When all the replacements are made it feels like half the league is an all-star. Nothing against Mizz, I think he's going to be there on his own merits soon. I just think the idea of an all-star gets diluted when the replacement is considered the same as the original.

    One way means the rest of the league will do what we do thus what we do will no longer be the advantage is has been.

    Either that or other teams are starting to wise up to the Brewers strategy of drafting. Figuring out how to save money early to spend later probably won't work so well if all the teams start doing it.

    If they don't we have enough major league ready talent in the minors to deal with it. No need to stockpile veterans with expiring contracts just because they both might not hold up. I'd rather they keep Peralta but wouldn't be mad if they got a deal they couldn't refuse.

    I think some fans, in all sports and every team tend to be negative unless the team is clearly the top team in the league. Every season that doesn't end in a title is a waste and people need to lose their jobs. It's just the way some people deal with the ups and downs of season. That doesn't make them less of a fan. They still care about the team. They just let their emotions lead them to a negative place. While I can't see the enjoyment of that, there are enough who do to continue to follow the team they bag on continuously for their entire lives. I also think there are some who use forums like this purely to vent when they get frustrated with their team. That would tend to skew our perception of them.

    I think the Brewers magic power is finding ways to make the assets a player has valuable as much or more thanthe ability to find undervalued assets.

    The Brewers tend to sign two types of free agents. Guys recovering from an injury or once promising prospects who haven't put it all together for what ever reason. Why wouldn't they just keep the one they have who fits what they look for anyway?

    I have a feeling there will be a similar meltdown as his dad had on the way out.

    I think they'd switch the bullpen duty at some point before sending him down if innings is the concern. They've done that in the past with Woody and Burnes so it seems like something they'd try again. I get the idea of sending him down if he was not quite ready but it appears they think he is given they're making room for him in a crowded starting rotation and a 40 man spot.

    I think there's a difference between using the stats that support your belief and using all available ones to determine what to believe.

    I think that shows the limitations of FIP and fWAR more than ti does the lack of Preister's performance. FIP especially gets overused as a predictor of true talent. It's a tool to use in tandem with other tools to assess talent but often is used as a definition of it.

    Does anyone know what his projected innings limit is? I only ask because I'd rather see him stay up now that he's coming up. If he's able to go five innings over the season I'm good with it. If not he'd either be in the pen or back down. That I'm less enthused about.

    I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks our chances of making the playoffs are by winning the division. That seemed to be the standard belief earlier in the season and I never understood why. The argument seemed to be we are in the weakest division so only one team could make it. Yet the weakness was because none of the other teams were capable of winning 90+ games. Now that it appears there are, there is no reason two teams from the central can't make it.

    It's still early. I firmly believe they have a two game winning streak in them before the season ends.

    I think there are a few who can be close to league average overall. KeBryan Hayes and Maikel Garcia are good defenders with less than average offense. Eugenio Suárez is old but has been decent the last couple seasons and isn't bad now. Ernie Clement does a little of everything without doing much of anything great which is textbook average. None of them are eye popping but neither is half a season of Civale or Quintana. All of that is moot if Durbin can hold his own but my main point is not all the trades have to be for strictly the future. A stop gap for a spare part may help now and help bridge the gap until

    Instead of trading spare parts for the future maybe we can trade some for better fits now. A league average third baseman for a league average starting pitchers seems doable. If he has another season of control it would be perfect. We'll still have a need for next season as some of our infielders will be on the cusp by maybe not quite ready yet.

    I think the bullpen is managed like it has reinforcements on the way. Murph is overworking some because he knows they won't be needed later in the season. At least I hope that's why he's using them a few of them so much now.

    Is it better to waste a year of service time in a season where the odds of making a post season run is diminishing and his innings will be limited? I don't want to waste any of his service time learning on the job in an innings limited role.

    I would much rather see his elbow explode in Nashville in mid-august than it do so in Milwaukee. Wasting a full year of service time rehabbing is never ideal but even worse in a year were we're struggling to be .500.

    He's probably on an inning limit for the season. If the plan is to have him in the majors to finish the season maybe they just wanted to limit keep his early season innings. It would make sense to limit his innings now if they're sellers at the trade deadline.

    While none of us know enough about the problems with the Braun testing it was enough of an issue for an arbitrator to rule in his favor. I'm glad he appealed it so they were forced to clear up those issues but also glad he didn't get away with it in the end.

    I know that's what Detroit did but I know it was done. For us I can see how replacing Civale with Miz could be an upgrade. We haven't had Woody or Perez so it's hard to think we'd regress with still not having them. Henderson and Quintana is a push. The biggest loss without an obvious replacement would be Hoskins. Even then we have Black and Martinez along with Bauers. Add Hall, Ashby and Joho we could see improvements in the overall pitching even without three veteran starters. The other part is expecting some players to start hitting like they should and possibly getting a possible piece or two that might help in said trades. We wouldn't need an average starter to improve third base production for example.

    I guess since this is the optimism thread it's ok to be myopic so here it is. It's possible we could trade several or all of our veterans on the final year of their contract and still be compete for a playoff spot.
