  1. Not trying to pile on to the kid as he's been thrown into an impossible situation, but over-promising and under-delivering has pretty much been the theme this year. Is there a farm system more bereft of MLB-ready talent than Milwaukee's?
  2. Today's loss ensures the Brewers will not have won a single series in April. It's hard to be *that* bad. Even the Indians have won a series.
  3. I do feel bad for Nelson but will not shed a single tear for this team. They aren't worthy of my lacrimal gland's secretions.
  4. Could MA be any more myopic? If he truly believes he has a good core of players and refuses to acknowledge the fundamental problems this team has drafting and developing players, we're screwed. I mean at this point I'm hoping for the worst possible implosion because it feels like it's the only thing that'll put us on the path to getting better.
  5. You raise an interesting point. I was always under the impression MA was taking advice from DM on how to build the roster. For example, I had thought DM was the one who recommended going after CC Sabathia and MA basically green-lighted that. But yes, I'd agree that having a short-term, "we're only one blockbuster signing away from a World Series" mentality has ultimately led to the state the Brewers are currently in, and MA might be culpable for that.
  6. RR is the shift manager. Doug Melvin is the architect of this disaster and he is the one who should get the brunt of the blame. He's the one ultimately in charge of stocking the Brewers armory, and let's face it, the Brewers have been showing up to gun fights wielding butter knives.
  7. I'm watching Cain and Escobar absolutely rake in the post-season and I need someone to remind me that Melvin has a long term plan to keep the Brewers competitive.
  8. Looked to me like it hit on his cheek, just to the side of his nose. If it caused a cut on his cheek, facial cuts would bleed that much as well. You have to worry about both guys mentally going forward. Stanton won't feel to easy stepping into the box again. Definitely hit him flush in the cheek and definitely suffered a laceration to his cheek as well as a possible broken nose. Really pray he didn't fracture his eye socket but that's possible. I also saw him spit something out. Don't know if that was chew, blood or (shudder) teeth. Absolutely just about the worst place to get hit and hope for the best for him.
  9. How can Roenicke be okay with that call??? If that call were actually correct, the runner going to second would always deliberately interfere with the 2nd baseman to prevent the DP.
  10. Bruce Seid definitely has a Hank Schrader vibe about him.
  11. Did Will Smith and Tyler Thornburg pass away in a freak gasoline fight accident? Why on God's earth to you trot out Wang only down by 1?
  12. Did the Brewers hire the Packers' strength and conditioning staff?
  13. Twitter, which never gets it wrong, is reporting it is indeed his thumb. So why the hell is he in there for two inning? Give him today, and the whole Marlins series off.
  14. No. Switch to the Dodger video feed if you want to experience audio mixed the correct way.
  15. Hated to see the game and the streak end like that but I think the ump got the call correct. If one foot is clearly out of the box when the ball hits you, you're out. MLB rule 6.06 makes this pretty clear: "6.06 A batter is out for illegal action when -- (a) He hits a ball with one or both feet on the ground entirely outside the batters box." https://twitter.com/AdamMcCalvy/status/327286300896026624/photo/1 I think Schroeder was claiming that both feet have to be out of the batter's box but that is not the rule.
  16. The guy after him in the lineup today is starting to heat up and has, historically, been a good hitter with RISP. A radical idea might be to put him in the 4 spot.
  17. Our proficiency at grounding into them is remarkable. If this team is truly built around running, why not try a hit and run on occasion?
  18. The odds of monkeys reproducing the works of Shakespeare by randomly hitting keys on a typewriter are greater than Weeks actually producing in the 4 hole. It is an affront to rational thinking and a disservice to the rest of the team that RR continues to slot him there.
  19. Jeff Passan is reporting that Bug Selig bought a bunch of old Genesis records today. The Lamb Lies down on Broadway, Abacab and Inivisible Touch. Not sure how this would relate to a Braun suspension.
  20. "Two solid breaking pitches" is debatable. If he can't throw a curve for a strike, or hangs them high in the zone like the volleyball he served up on the game winning triple today, batters are going to simply lock in on his fastball. I get the point you're making. I personally never argued for dumping Hart and Weeks but know that others have. FWIW, injuries have played a role with those two guys whereas there's nothing physically wrong with Ax I'm aware of. I'm taking a few deep breaths and trying to be level headed here but his ERA is about double what it was last year and he leads the league (edit: leads the majors) in blown saves. At the very least, I want someone else competing for the closer role next year because there's no guarantee whatsoever we'll be getting the Ax of 2011.
  21. Yep. Henderson, Axford and maybe Kintzler. That's the list for me. You can have the rest of 'em. Maybe I'm over-reacting but I don't want Axford back either. I'm tired of feeling what I did today and tired of white knucklin' it with him on the saves he does convert. He's a nice enough guy and I appreciate his "never say die" attitude but this is a performance business and he isn't performing. He's a fastball pitcher than can occasionally throw a curve or slider for a strike. That isn't going to get it done. I think we caught lightning in a bottle with him last year but he's too erratic for a position with a very narrow margin for error.
  22. Continuing with that theme, anyone have a link to Michael Hunt's obituary of the Brewers written in August?
