  1. Even without JJ the bullpen is still a major strength. We have Hader, Knebel, Claudio, Woodruff and Guerra who in previous years would all be the clear cut #1 guy. Williams and Barnes would be #2/#3 people on many bullpens and they are our 5th/6th/7th best guy. Houser would normally be treated as a top tier RP prospect had we not been so flush with RP pitching prospects in the past (like Knebel and Hader). I agree on Albers, but as the last guy on the list, that's normal to have a sunk contract you are hoping rebound. This is far and away the best brewers bullpen we've ever had and arguably the best in the league. To have 5 or 6 guys (when JJ is healthy) who can strongly handle the 8th or 9th inning and likely all be able to go more than 1 inning at at time is absolutely fantastic.
  2. This website lists all players in the organization and whether they have options or how many years they are until they have to be added to the 40 man. https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-milwaukee-brewers
  3. Stearns has to be careful in just doing fire sales to clear roster space. Zach Davies is not a guy I throw into the clearance sale bin for minor league depth. He'll be 26 and he's a proven successful major league starter. Chase Anderson might get you a bit more than low level prospects and his rotation spot can/will be filled by one of the young guys. It might even be a good time to sell high on Chacin. I'm thinking the same thing. Next year try to move Anderson for low level prospects, Chacin for either prospects or bullpen help (assuming Woodruff, Burnes and Peralta are moving to the rotation), and do more of the same for whomever of Thames, Schoop, Broxton, Santana pull value and keep the rest for depth. I don't think any of those major leaguers could help us get a top tier starting pitcher, but we might have one or several new top tier starters next year in Nelson, Burnes, Peralta, Woodruff (or Hader?).
  4. Well, to get pitches you can hit hard and to get him out early so the tired / suspect cubs bullpen has to pitch earlier. If those hard hits don't fall, not accomplishing that second goal will hurt.
  5. Hopefully we can work the count better than the first and get Quintana's pitch count a little higher.
  6. Name a substantial player on the brewers that hasn't been on the DL? Shaw, maybe Aguilar. That's about it. All of Braun, Yelich, Cain, Thames, Pina have seen time on the DL. Heck shaw may have as well. Every team has had their injuries, cubs can eat crow. Let's goooooo!!!!! 2nd or 3rd best P going into the year has also basically missed the vast majority of the year in Davies. And our breakout starting RF from last year and our breakout AS Closer from last year both go into major tailspins and don't recover for ~5 months. Its great we have them now but having a good Santana and Knebel all year would have been amazing.
  7. Ha! No kidding. [sarcasm]But what about the hypothetical Yelich for 8 top 100 prospect trades we will need to discuss?[/sarcasm]
  8. I don't know, but Reddit MLB Streams if this fails you. does said site happen to have an app? or browser only from your knowledge ? Not really. That website will just link to other websites that have the game, so you are likely stuck to the browser.
  9. I don't think audio is ever subject to blackout, so I would imagine WTMJ should still come through. The only "official" streaming option is through espn with a verified account. The typical mlb.tv stream will be blacked out for everyone (blackout rules had a specific line item for the tiebreaker game). My plan is to see what google can help me find in a bout an hour using the recommendations from yesterdays IGT.
  10. but what if my friend doesn't have cable at work? Your friend might be able to watch it on espn .com or through the espn app. Just to add, they cannot watch it through mlb.tv either (which I unfortunately just discovered looking through the blackout restrictions). Regular Season Play-In Game: Due to Major League Baseball exclusivities, any play-in game to determine the final team(s) to reach the MLB Postseason, i.e. a 163rd game, will be blacked out in the United States (including the territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands).
  11. So the real questions to me come down: Gio vs Davies vs Anderson (pick 2). Broxton vs last bullpen spot (probably Peralta but maybe Guerra, Jennings, or Barnes) with Thames as a very outside chance. I think the one starter not chosen is left off the roster instead of moving to the bullpen. So, right now I'm leaning Gio & Anderson with Broxton getting the last spot for the NLDS but go with the bigger bullpen for the NLCS because of having a stretch of 3 games in a row. The Locks: OF: Cain, Yelich, Braun, Granderson, Santana IF: Aguilar, Shaw, Arcia, Moose, Schoop, Perez C: Pina, Kratz SP: Chacin, Miley RP: Jeffress, Hader, Knebel, Soria, Burnes, Cedeno, Woodruff No Chance: Pitchers: Albers, Lyles, Position: Nottingham, Saladino Maybes: Pitchers: Anderson, Barnes, Davies, Gonzalez, Guerra, Jennings, Williams Position: Broxton, Thames
  12. WGN still exists, but I think only carries Cubs games in their home market. They aren't beamed across the country anymore. I'm sure it's something to do with MLB broadcast restrictions. WGN is still your go-to for re-runs of Cops and Everybody Loves Raymond, though In the chicago area, it seems WGN gets about half of the games and the chicago Comcast Sportsnet gets the rest.
  13. Yes, pick up Moose’s option. Unfortunately, I don’t see Moose accepting it. I would happily start next year with the too many IF options of Moose, Shaw, Arcia, Dubon, Schoop, Huira, Perez, Aguilar and Thames. Worst case scenario, we have an awesome 6 man IF and someone or two is let go for less of what we want.
  14. My vote is Thames and two of Anderson, Guerra and Chacin (mainly because Davies will have no value). I think trading a set of those three gives us the most return we can get with the most replaceable pieces. This would leave a projected roster of: OF: Yelich, Cain, Braun, Santana, Broxton IF: Aguilar, Schoop, Arcia, Shaw, Perez, Dubon C: Pina, FA Signing SP: Nelson, Davies, the one not traded, Peralta & Burnes RP: Jeffress, Hader, Soria, Knebel, Williams, Cedeno, Barnes, Jennings Maybe go crazy and trade all 3 SP and put Hader in the rotation? Also, this still leaves us with possible mid season upgrades with Hiura & Ray & Woodruff.
  15. The radio guys were left speachless. Basically said Wow 2 or 3 times before cutting to commercial. They were absolutely confident it should have been out at home and safe at second. To quote "why have a replay system if it can't get the call right" for the call at home.
  16. With the season he's having this year I highly doubt he will get a significant raise, if any raise at all. Agreed it would be a small increase but i thought the rule of thumb is arbitration always goes up at least 15-20% each year and never down? Eitherway, someone noticed he will be able to reject any option so thankfully this scenario can’t be played out.
  17. Also to add, Schoop is making 8.5M this year, so next years aribitration will probably be 11M? If we tried to play the option game and get another year of arbitration, it would come in Arb 13-16M I would guess. That is not much less then he QO of 17M which we could easily give him after next year. In no way does that extra million or 3 out weigh the negative impact of trying to screw over your own players chance at FA and a mega contract.
  18. I don't think they need to protect him this winter. It would have been unlikely he would stick on a 25 man roster all year next year. with the injury, I think it would be safe to not protect him. To add to this, I believe a rule-5 player has to be on the 25 man active roster for 90 days to clear the "rule-5" status (i.e. not on the DL). If they don't, then they would still be under the rule 5 restrictions in 2020. With gatewood's injury likely taking him out a few months of next years seasons, at least, he would need to be healthy and active most of the remaining season next year. If he suffers any setback and can't be activated until after the all-star break or goes back on an extended DL, he may not clear his "rule-5" status. Because of this, I think there is a very low chance someone would claim him in the draft.
  19. When and why is he getting DFA'd? He'll be on the 60 day DL at some point for the rest of the year to not take up a 40 man spot. And if the Brewers want to or think they have any chance at keeping him they will simply non-tender and then resign him in the offseason. No reason to risk waivers or rule 5. ' This is my thought as well. 60-day for the season, non-tendered and then offered a 2-year minor league contract with some out-date designed for once he would be healthy (so he's not stuck in the minors once healthy).
  20. Agreed, and what do we do with the former Starting Pitcher we upgrade? By the end of July we are looking at Nelson, Anderson, Davies, Chacin and Guerra. Are we going to option any of Nelson, Anderson, Davies or Guerra? Are we going to release/BP Chacin? Even if one of those 5 get injured and put on the DL for a while, we are looking at Suter/Woodruff/Peralta/Burns as the 5th starter. Would it be worth spending the prospects to upgrade at that point? Barring major injuries to multiple players leaving us with a late July set of Davies, Chacin, Guerra, Suter & Woodruff; I highly doubt we target a starter. Moving Pina to backup C (Realmuto/Perez), getting a SS rental so we can release Sogard, move Saladino to backup IF and give Arcia more time (Machado) or starting clean with 2B (Merryweather?) are the only options I see being worthwhile (barring future injury).
  21. If Ray does awesome this year in AA and awesome again in AAA next year, I could see him start 2020 in AAA and then come up in June as 4th OF. This allows him to get ~80 games in 2020 to cover an injury or to give each starter (Yelich, Cain, Santana/Phillips) about 20 games off. Note i have Braun on the bench for 2020. If he continues to perform well, then either Cain or Santana/Phillips could be moved that offseason. Note, I have either Santana or Phillips moved no later then the end of 2019. This allows for us to refresh the OF with good, young talent so that it stays a strength through at least 2022.
  22. Totally. Why would we want to go with the proven guy? To me, it would be disappointingly because Peralta should stay in the lineup until both Davies and Anderson are back and either Suter or Woodruff be sent down or to the pen (my preference to suter moving to the pen). When both Davies & Anderson are back, then make the choice I Peralta or the other starter (Woodruff/suter) to go down.
  23. In theory it could (he's probably up before the super-2 cut off) but considering he only had 120 IP last year and 80IP the year before I see him getting shutdown and optioned back to the minors before the year is over (mid-August?) even if he remains fantastic all year. Or once everyone is healthy (Anderson, Davies, Miley, Nelson), they send him down in July & August, limit his innings, then bring him back for the September playoff run?
  24. If only. With Braun's contract, he's not going to see any less playing time. Not saying it's right, but that's how it works. I hope he gets at least two “rest” days against AZ. At least let the hot bats keep going.
