  1. I like the signing. This team will have a lot of depth... Anyone who thinks Stearns is done hasn’t been paying attention the last few years. I expect at least one big splash either through trade or free agency for a 3B or TOR... then suddenly all the pundits who have been ripping on the Brewers will start proclaiming them NL Central favorites...
  2. Ultimately it won’t matter if the Brewers don’t make the playoffs, but if they do then you want Braun as close to healthy at the end of the season as possible. Being able to rest him extra is key to that. Braun might be way more valuable in October if he’s only played 90-100 games in the 2020 season... Braun is a proven clutch veteran postseason bat. Ideally you want him as close to 100% as you can have him during the games he’s most valuable (vs LHP in the regular season and occasional other games, and starting every postseason game)
  3. There is no way Avisail Garcia is a C, either, considering his age and the length of the deal. My suspicion is that anybody who grades that signing a C hasn’t seen Garcia play a lot of Baseball.
  4. At their best? Similar offensive production to what Moustakas produced. Less HR’s, more OBP, less strikeouts. The defense would be worse, however. Sogard doesn’t have the arm, Healy is a below average defensive 3B. That is at their best. Neither have had consistent year to year production like Moustakas. I definitely prefer Sogard/Healy as depth, not a starting platoon.
  5. I will go on record as saying: No! I would not trade Hiura for Glasnow... I predict Hiura will be a future NL MVP.
  6. Nominated for post of the month. I’ve been greatly enjoying this Brewers winter. I genuinely feel for my fellow Brewers fans who are wringing their hands over every move though. Perusing Brewerfan.net is a bit like driving slowly past a car crash lately...
  7. If Mark Kotsay could... oh wait, that was Roenicke.
  8. Hey if it helps give Mark confidence in spending, I’ll buy 5 Nerd Power shirts right now!
  9. Isn't this the same Sogard we waived a couple years ago because he was just that horrible? He is probably a great guy for the clubhouse, I'll give you that. It’s more than that, a lot more. If you are in the playoffs and you need a LH pinch hitter in a big moment you want a guy like Sogard who has the experience in big moments and can make contact and make something happen. Both the Nationals & Red Sox in the last 2 World Series had a lot of role players like that... We essentially just traded Hernan Perez for Eric Sogard. This is a move towards solidifying the 26th player on the roster. And I could care less if it costs Mark an extra couple million!
  10. Sogard is exactly the type of veteran you want in a playoff run. He’ll be very valuable coming off the bench, or making spot starts, or even having a bigger role. This is a very good signing that fits into the bigger strategy of roster building.
  11. Brewers are getting more and more of the gritty veteran types that Counsell loves.... I like it!
  12. Looking at BA/OBP/SLG the production of Narvaez/Garcia in 2019 is remarkably similar to the combined production of Moustakas/Grandal
  13. Do you not agree that their roster turnover for a contender is extreme and that they have lost a TON of talent to Free Agency? . They’ve already replaced the production of Grandal & Moustakas with Narvaez & Garcia. And that is if Narvaez & Garcia continue to hit like they did in their former home ballparks. One should have every reason to believe that their production will improve in the Brewers ballpark. And Moustakas & Grandal are older. There is reason to guess that their production may decline, certainly by 2021... So the Brewers have already replaced the production of the Top 2 players who left with 2 younger & cheaper players... and somehow that is supposed to worry me!? I’ll respectfully disagree with any thoughts of extreme turnover. I suppose some people don’t realize how talented Narvaez & Garcia are... I would imagine that most fans here, let alone casual fans, haven’t seen them play very often. And I haven’t even started with talking about how talented Urias is....
  14. If Stearns went out and spent big money on a 2B who would hit .300 with 40+ HR’s per season over the next 4-5 years, would you be happy?! If Hiura hits like that in 2020, will you remember this thread? Will you understand that spreading that money around to Garcia, Narvaez, B Anderson, Lindblom, & Urias is a wiser choice....?!
  15. The Brewers have one of the top 3 players in the game in Yelich, an emerging star in Hiura, one of the top 3 hitting catchers in Narvaez, one of the best relief pitchers in the game in Hader, a Gold Glove CF, and an emerging ace in Woodruff... No, they are not punting on 2020 and focusing on ‘21/‘22!
  16. Narvaez, Garcia, Urias, Lindblom, B Anderson equal up to more than one top free agent... 5 very solid players who will really help the team...much better than one Rendon and 4 replacement level players in those other spots The other thing we need to remember, and apparently this cannot be repeated enough, it is still just mid December. There are all kinds of moves the Brewers can still make before Spring Training.
  17. Who cares where Braun wants to play or how often? He’s going to be 36 years old. The last time he played 150+ games was 2012. He’ll play where Counsell tells him to play...
  18. While Healy does seem like the definition of a “AAAA Just a Guy” player, every once in awhile players like that take their game to another level. I think Stearns is doing a good job of bringing in depth to make up for the lack of depth in the upper levels of the farm system.
  19. More AAAA depth in case Braun and other 1B’s break down...
  20. Kind of an interesting AAAA guy: .313 with a .398 OBP in AAA last year... career AAA stats .286/.382/.441 and can play 6-7 positions
  21. Hader for Lux plus a pitcher makes sense. Lux can play 3B/1B/2B and has a strong lefty bat
  22. There's certainly something to be said about keeping your star player happy. I'll add that Braun was very uncomfortable in RF when he was asked to move to accommodate Khrush "noodle arm" Davis. It's definitely not as simple as putting a round peg in a round hole. Yelich has played 516 career games in LF (4162 Innings!), including winning a Gold Glove at the position in 2014.
  23. Completely insane if Yelich gets to choose his position. Garcia’s arm is light years stronger, he should be in right field...
  24. But only 81 games are held at Miller Park. That is his full season spray chart. So maybe up to 25-28. If he hits 39 or more in a season I will streak one of the last Home games in the next 2 seasons. Plus 9 Games in Cincy 3 at Coors 3-5 at Wrigley when the wind is blowing out 3 at Philly 3 at D-Backs This year 3 at Fenway This year 3 at Camden Yards ———————————————— So: about 108-110 Games this season in Hitter’s Parks
  25. If you look at Garcia’s career splits, he does hit LHP better than RHP, but he can hit RHP’s well and doesn’t need to be platooned. He actually hit RHP’s really well last season: .292/.334/.471 vs RHP in 2019
