  1. It’s interesting being in mid January, and 3 teams need to hire managers. I wonder if Ron Washington will land with one of them.
  2. Rumor long ago was that both Trout & Harper were using HGH, had been allowed to do so through a loophole in MLB, due to having a doctor’s prescription for it prior to being drafted. If that is true, the internet has literally been scrubbed from any sort of link to it. Personally I think most pro athletes are taking one performance enhancer or another...
  3. Cain was an MVP candidate in year 1, and a Gold Glove winner in year 2. The contract has already paid for itself as far as I’m concerned. The issue is that supposedly the Cain contract prevents us from signing other free agents at a similar cost. Some people here think that is absurd, others think that makes perfect sense. Once again it comes down to not so much the value of a contract like Cain’s, it is about the Brewers “payroll limitations” and whether or not you think that is a legit issue. But hey, let’s all go to Miller Park, tailgate in the sun, drink 8 beers and Go Brewers!
  4. Can you imagine Donaldson in the Brewers’ lineup? Cain Yelich Hiura Donaldson Narvaez Garcia Braun/Smoak Arcia/Urias A huge missed opportunity... maybe they trade for Arenado. Maybe it might snow in July.
  5. When the Brewers signed Jedd Gyorko, we pretty knew the Brewers weren’t gonna sign Josh Donaldson. Oh how I wish that could be in blue.
  6. $92 million over 4 years. Sad that the Brewers couldn’t top that.
  7. Wow. Good for the Twins. I thought small market teams couldn’t afford Donaldson.
  8. It’s been quite the offseason for the Yankees. First they sign Cole. Now all of this is happening to the Astros, and potentially worse is about to happen to Cora and the Red Sox.
  9. It’s one thing to be the 1919 White Sox and intentionally lose the World Series because of ties to organized crime and gambling. Trying to win the World Series by cheating is an entirely different thing.
  10. Suspending all the players involved for a year or half a year would be good. Let the Astros be partly a AAAA team for 2020. I suspect that MLB’s weak position with the Player’s Union (and the upcoming CBA negotiations) prevented MLB from suspending players.
  11. I think the Astros were lucky they weren’t stripped of their title, and Cora may get banned for life or at least 5 years. Meanwhile I’m surprised there aren’t any suspensions of players involved.
  12. I would hope we would not hesitate on bringing in one of the Top 5/Top 10 Third Basemen of All-Time due to cost.

  14. All the more reason to be frustrated that they didn’t take a couple extra steps in adding a few great players in that run. I don’t think counting on Christian Yelich to hit like steroid era Barry Bonds (like he did down the stretch in 2018) is a feasible “plan” moving forwards. The dumpster diving of late is great if it is just adding 40 man depth and AAAA depth. I’m all for that, especially with veteran players. If we really are cutting payroll by this much and are pretty much done adding players, then it has been an incredibly frustrating offseason.

  16. They have World Series titles. I would love for the Brewers to be more like the Marlins. Win it all a few times and then be horrible for 10+ years. I would love for the Brewers to win it all, just once, in my lifetime...
  17. Rendon and Cole. I don’t care one bit whether Mark has $10 billion dollars or $9 billion I suggest being a yankees fan then. I’d prefer being a grumpy Brewers fan... I do think there is a certain degree to which Mark is scamming Brewers fans. He’s providing great family fun and entertainment, and in that way he is delivering. I do not think he is investing every dollar he can afford into making the Brewers a winner though...

  19. My first reaction to the Gyorko signing was that, similar to Logan Morrison, they are rolling the dice on someone who was a very good player in 2017
  20. I do think Yost ended Ben Sheets’ career early. All those meaningless games early in Sheets’ career, when you could tell he was done after 5-6 innings, and Yost would just leave him in, and leave him in, and leave him in... would have been really nice to have a fully healthy Sheets in 2008
  21. He hit 38 HR’s in 2017. Wonder what’s been going on with him since? Injuries?
  22. That makes sense to me.... I’d like the Brewers to find ways to innovate in that regard, and I’m sure they are continually tryin* to find leverage in market inefficiencies. Counsell can only play the hand he’s dealt. If he only has 3-4 great relief pitchers, he’s going to ride them pretty hard. His job is to win games.
  23. I think Counsell is fine as the Brewers’ manager. There are valid reasons to be slightly concerned about his in game decisions, but I think those are magnified when you watch your favorite team play 160+ games and only see other teams’ managers a handful of times. Counsell is certainly better than Roenicke & Macha, and arguably better than Yost. In general, the more talent a manager has to work with, the better they are going to look, so it is up to Stearns & Co to continue to build a great roster. I get a little concerned with Counsell’s bullpen management. I think he burns out arms to a degree, by overusing/over pitching guys. That, to a degree, is partly due to only having so much talent to work with. And it is in part an aspect of an overall MLB trend.
  24. That’s the big move we’ve all been waiting for this winter!
  25. White Sox fans certainly aren’t going to be able to say that the team didn’t do anything in the offseason
