  1. It’s actually difficult to find relief pitchers in recent Brewers history that weren’t overused. I will say that such a phenomenon isn’t unique to the Brewers, it happens throughout Baseball. Relief pitchers are used up like disposable pieces and then replaced with the next 99 mph throwing 1.250 WHIP guy The problem is that “small market teams” (I hate that term, it attempts to validate every excuse Mark has under the sun) like the Brewers can not afford to overuse arms because by the end of the season they don’t have the big horses as starting pitchers who can take the team on their backs (at least they haven’t since Sabathia)... Edit to say: look at Jeffress in 2018. Through June he had thrown 40 Innings. He threw 43 innings in 2018 on either 0 or 1 days rest. By August & September his arm was shot. He was running on fumes in the postseason. He’s never been the same since. Look at Knebel, they blew through his arm till his UCL gave out... Hader didn’t look the same at the end of 2019...I’m sure we could go on & on with this
  2. Ryu has averaged 22 starts in the last 2 years with a combined 2.21 ERA with a 184 ERA+ He is, in my opinion, the exact pitcher you roll the dice on at 4 years $80 million... the exact pitcher you slash your payroll for like they did... they are never going to be able to do the big Cole or Strasburg contracts but they could have afforded Ryu, or Bumgarner, or Keuchel. We’ll see what other tricks Stearns has up his sleeve, maybe he signs Donaldson (doubt it!). Maybe he makes a significant trade or something...
  3. Urias is a legit prospect. He can really hit. He can already hit MLB LHP. Learning to hit MLB RHP is going to be a work in progress. It is doubtful that he’s ever going to be a guy who can steal bases... that’s OK. He brings plenty else to the table
  4. It would be better to be a better team. If there is payroll flexibility at mid-season, that is great. However we have repeatedly seen the Brewers have to overuse their top pitchers in the 1st Half of a season which effects their performance at the end of the season. Personally I think Ryu would have been a great roll of the dice. I think the Brewers need more TOR pitching. It seems to me that there is a bigger chance of the Brewers being not quite good enough to be a legit World Series contender than we are in danger of overdoing it with payroll. Thankfully we have David Stearns at the helm. He still might be able to craft a team that can win it all. He’s shown the ability to get the Brewers a superstar or two and make lemonade out of the lemons he’s limited to in payroll.
  5. This is one pitcher I would’ve taken a risk for, that (clearly) Mark wouldn’t...
  6. Personally I’d rather have Keuchel for an extra $9 million per than Sogard plus Smoak, however I trust Stearns and figure he has a plan in place that will work and/or has analytics & info (that I’m not privy to) that tells him that Keuchel is too big of a risk at that price.

  8. I thought the Rise of Skywalker was fantastic. Loved every minute of it. I’m a huge Star Wars fan and Episode 9 might’ve been my favorite. Thought it was awesome. So did my wife & teenager.

  12. Reports (per Rosenthal, MLB Network) are that the Indians are telling teams to get their final offers in on Lindor. I could see the Brewers trying to get in on Lindor. Hader plus Arcia & Ray, that kind of thing, but being outbid. The other side of that is that depending on who Lindor gets traded to (the Dodgers especially), it could really open up a trade avenue for the Brewers to trade for an infielder who gets blocked by Lindor... Stay tuned, could be an interesting couple of weeks...

  14. Hiura put up a .893 OPS last year. Chapman isn’t close to the hitter than Hiura is, especially if the ball stops being juiced... Hiura can hit for average & power. No chance do I trade Hiura for anyone not named Mike Trout...
  15. From 2018-19 Smoak posted... wRC+: 112 | BB%: 14.8 | K%: 23.9 | ISO: .208 Average 1B from 2018-19 posted... wRC+: 108 | BB%: 10.0 | K%: 22.3 | ISO: .196 Brewers 1B from 2018-19 posted... wRC+: 118 | BB%: 11.3 | K%: 25.9 | ISO: .244 Thanks! Even looking at it from that prism, he’s better than average, which (considering the contract) makes this clearly a great signing....
  16. I think most Brewers fans care about Beer. And having fun at the ballpark. And winning is up there, yes. A lot of casual Brewers fans have their favorites. They love yelling “Moose!!!”, they love Hernan because he can play multiple positions. They love Jesus Aguillar because he looks like Shrek and hits bombs. Etc... the players that are colorful characters become part of the daily fun of being a fan, in between beers. As long as a winning team keeps their superstar (Yelich), fans will adopt a new cast of characters as favorites while the beer keeps flowing and the team keeps winning.
  17. I love how stats can be cherry picked. I’m happy with the signing, just find the stats talk funny. If we leave out his career year of 2017, how does Smoak rank looking at the last 2 seasons of ‘18 & ‘19?
  18. Yes, he knows that Jerry Dipoto is a trade addict, and Stearns can just trade guys back to the Mariners at any time. Sort of a time share, but with players. There is also a portal in space with the Seattle Pilots that Stearns is able to leverage.
  19. Hiura’s reverse split is real, although the difference might not be that pronounced in a bigger sample. He hit RHP’s better than LHP’s in MiLB & College, too Urias absolutely crushes LHP’s, and has so far in his minimal MLB at bats
  20. Narvaez is the guy I expect more of a “Miller Park Bounce” than Smoak (Toronto isn’t exactly a pitcher’s park) but I could see Smoak benefiting from being in Milwaukee, and also not playing 54 games against NY, Boston & Tampa pitching (!)
  21. Looking good! I like it... it will be very interesting to see the opening day lineup, I suspect there’ll be a few intriguing additions or changes
