  1. There are untouchables on this roster: Wily Peralta & Jimmy Nelson Successful teams have a lot of talented, young controllable pitching. Peralta & Nelson are who you build around for the future, not who you deal away
  2. I will still very much enjoy watching them It is exciting seeing the progress Segura seems to be making. I really enjoy watching Gennett. I would love to be wrong about Khris Davis. Gomez is always fun to watch. Peralta could still really develop. Jimmy Nelson certainly looks better than last year. Lucroy is one of the best catchers in Baseball. The storyline of whether Braun will ever return to All-Star form is intriguing I'm as critical of the Brewers as anyone I've seen on this board, but they are my favorite team, through thick & thin and I'll keep watching them and enjoying whatever highlights come
  3. I have said and will continue to say that the problem is mostly Doug Melvin. The free swinging Brewers are not a winning model of a team. Melvin hasn't been all bad but I sincerely think the game has passed him by. I think there has been signs that the Brewers recognize they need to take different approaches (trading for Lind, trading Gallardo for prospects, attempting to rebuild the farm system, drafting "high upside" guys) and so perhaps the future isn't as bleak as this year. I don't think there is a manager alive today who can come in and take this amount of talent that the Brewers have and make them a playoff team. The Brewers might well fire Roenicke, but it would likely be more due to fan outcry and fear of dimished ticket sales. Which is a legit concern
  4. This is where it all starts or ends for the Brewers this year. Get swept and continue looking terrible and the downward spiral could increase pace. Starting the season 2-10 and looking anemic could lead to early regime change moves as Mark A's impatience increases Or, they could start to put together some solid at-bats and play well. Even if they only win 1 game this series, but play well, it could be a building block.....
  5. Get on base regularly? On the Brewers?!
  6. Just think, if Gomez spends much of the year on & off the DL, then Doug Melvin has his new excuse for the offseason: "well now that we signed that pitcher and we've got Go-Go healthy again, we feel we are a contender....."
  7. Braun looks like a guy who might hit 10 HR's this year
  8. Gennett's swing mechanics look really off so far this year. He's jumping out at pitches and getting off balance. I don't know if it is just a slump or if the Brewers and new hitting coach Coles is screwing with his swing. If so, it ain't working.
  9. this was quite probably the Brewers' worst game so far. Lackey was really struggling and missing his spots. Molina would set up outside and Lackey would throw a meatball right down the middle and the Brew Crew could do nothing with it. This happened 3 to 4 times an inning in the first 5 innings. Unbelievably poor hitting
  10. What do you want him to do? The team has been garbage and Scooter Gennett can't hit a beach ball. Hector Gomez can just PH for him. I suppose they can just pinch hit for Gennett whenever a LHP pitcher comes to the mound, but I though all along they were saying Gennett can be an every-day player I'd split Parra & Gennett up, with Davis in between them.... Cardinals like to play match up. Why make it easier on them?
  11. Pulled hamstring running to 1st last night... could be a bad injury
  12. Looking forward to watching this Is that lineup real? Is Roenicke actually hitting Gennett & Parra back to back? Against a team with 2 LHP's in the bullpen? Oh, Lord
  13. Love seeing this thread. I will check in often. I have hope (and optimism) that you are right!
  14. The tests aren't being tripped because the masking agents the players are taking are very advanced
  15. If Braun returns to even an .850 - .875 OPS, the Brewers would be wise to trade him to a big market team and stock up on prospects. Because of the steroid scandal thing, there wouldn't be the backlash from fans in "trading the face of the franchise"
  16. It happens. Dustin Pedroia comes to mind with his thumb & hand injuries
  17. If Will Smith doesn't face Carpenter/Heyward in the 8th because it is "Broxton's Inning" I'm going to laugh to keep from crying
  18. I think Braun has elite talent I think it is possible that steroids are what allowed Braun to develop that elite talent and more importantly kept him "healthy", and we'll never see that Braun again I think it is also possible that the steroids were just a one-time thing and he is just on the wrong side of 30 and declining Either way, I doubt we'll see the .900 + OPS Braun again
  19. The Pirates have one of the best players in Baseball in McCutchen. A light years better bullpen that Milwaukee. Much better corner outfielders than the Brewers (unless you believe the "Braun is back" hype, I don't). Neil Walker is much better than Scooter, I could go on and on. They have a much better starting pitching staff too.... If your premise is that the Brewers going 8-14 in April is a sure sign that they can match the Pirates' 88 win season, I'm not following you I think a better analogy would be that after being caught with steroids, Nelson Cruz had a 40 HR season, so we can hope for that in Braun, as being more likely, and frankly it is unlikely, too
  20. They are not that bad...yet. I think they are. Ramirez is pretty much done. Hitting him cleanup is ridiculous. Braun is no longer something special. Scooter cannot hit LHP. Gomez & Lucroy are the only legit stars, although Lind has potential there. The biggest thing is that this pitching staff is horrible. Lohse & Garza are past their peak. If Peralta & Fiers don't emerge as front end #1/#2 starters, this team is headed for a Top 5/Top 10 pick If this group of talent had an incredible manager and they played gritty smart Baseball and worked the count, got on base and moved runners over and played great defense, maybe 81 wins would be in their sights. But this free swinging bunch with a manager who is usually worse than the opponent's manager makes the Brewers one of the worst teams in Baseball
  21. I'm thinking the Brewers will have a Top 10 Pick in 2016, maybe even Top 5. They are truly that bad (in my opinion)
  22. Do people forget 2012?.... I agree completely, but he did have a post PED year that was MVP caliber. It is pretty naive to just assume, at this point, that 2012 was a "Post PED" year. I'd prefer to just look at him "Post PED suspension", and he hasn't looked anywhere near the same. Yes there've been lots of injuries, but lots of injuries are symptomatic of a player no longer being on PED's. I'm not saying that I am 100% certain on this, but it certainly looks suspicious
  23. If Braun never returns to All-Star status post PED suspension, it is arguable that he has hamstrung the organization in such a way that negates MVP/All-Star seasons that could be seen as tainted anyways. That hurts the Brewers franchise in all sorts of ways when the "Face of the Franchise" ends up like that. More more than merely a popularity contest. They sunk a ton of money into Braun and it could've been the biggest mistake this franchise has ever made, contractually. We'll see. They've got $109 million still tied into Braun over the next 7 years But at this point I see Braun as being pretty far from a "Top 4"
  24. I truly am a die hard Brewers fan and I will stick with them as my favorite team, but I sincerely believe that the best thing that could happen to this franchise right now is an epic collapse this season. That way Mark A can clean house, hopefully get a GM in place who understands the current trends in MLB, we can sell at the deadline and pick up some prospects and get a very high draft pick in 2016..... If we just continue to flounder away at the 82 to 84 win level (which seems highly unlikely, I know, but just saying "if") then we might extend Melvin (which is flabbergasting to me) and keep the same group essentially together and continue this mediocrity for another 5 years
