  1. Seems like a good solid hire, though I'm not clear what the problem was with Iorg in the first place
  2. I'd be very happy about that contract if the Brewers signed him for 5 years 100 million. Who cares about the money?! Mark A ain't going broke. Charge us an extra $5 a ticket or something, I want a World Series title!!!!
  3. OK, we'll look at platoon splits. LaRoche had 21 HRs, a .390 OBP & an .891 OPS vs RHP in 2014, which is better than what Lind put up, especially in terms of HR power. So if you sign LaRoche and had to platoon him like they will Lind, he's still better than Lind. There is legit concern as to whether Lind's back will hold up. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the Brewers have Lind, I'd just rather have LaRoche. Lind hit .061 vs LHP last year, he has a career .588 OPS vs LHP. LaRoche has a career .718 OPS vs LHP. Lind is much more of a platoon necessity. LaRoche is considered very solid defensively. Lind is a DH who can play some 1B and who you absolutely have to pinch hit for when facing a lefty specialist out of the bullpen. LaRoche had an OBP well over .400 through June playing day in and day out last season and carried that Nationals team while Harper was hurt and others were under-producing. I just don't see Lind carrying a team like that. (Lind also had a hot start but was strictly platooned) edited to say: Lind hasn't played one inning of Outfield since 2010, his WAR totals were not at all effected by outfield play from 2012-2014
  4. LaRoche 79 HR's and 5.4 WAR in '12-'14 Lind 40 HR's and 3.5 WAR in '12-'14 LaRoche does have a lot more bat at-bats because Lind is a complete liability vs LHP
  5. Far superior defense, much better OBP, better overall hitting. A better chance of durability. I suppose it does depend on who platoons with Lind, however there is no reason why you couldn't also do a soft platoon with LaRoche
  6. I agree. Lind is set to make $15M compared to LaRoche's $25. Do you also predict LaRoche will be worth paying an extra $10M over two years? . Absolutely. The extra $10 million would hardly affect Mark A's lifestyle. He'll still own multiple homes and be able to afford the multi-millionaire/close to billionaire life that he and his family have grown accustomed to.
  7. I predict LaRoche will out perform Lind in 2015 & 2016
  8. I wholeheartedly agree. Hopefully it is just posturing on Melvin's part, but it seems to me as though they are pretty much done other than getting more bullpen help. There was a lot of talk after they announced they were retaining Roenicke that there might need to be some changes in player personnel. I highly doubt that it was determined that Marco Estrada's attitude lead to the downfall of the '14 Brewers I'm (obviously) on the outside looking in, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of urgency on the part of the Brewers to change much. They seem (again, outside looking in) like an organization that is fairly content with it's lineup, like an organization that believes they are better than their 82-80 record. Well, there is that. Good point.
  9. A 3.0 WAR from Scooter puts him into or close to the Top 10 of all MLB 2B's.... I'm a Scooter fan but that seems like a stretch 1 Ben Zobrist Rays 5.7 2 Ian Kinsler Tigers 5.4 3 Robinson Cano Mariners 5.2 4 Jose Altuve Astros 5.1 5 Brian Dozier Twins 4.6 6 Howie Kendrick Angels 4.6 7 Dustin Pedroia Red Sox 4.4 8 Chase Utley Phillies 4.1 9 Neil Walker Pirates 3.7 10 Dee Gordon Dodgers 3.1
  10. If not, then certainly you don't believe that merely adding Adam Lind is going to get us in the playoffs, do you? If you believe that Ryan Braun can get back to being a 6-7 WAR player, and Segura can get back to being the 3.2 WAR player he was in 2013, then do you also believe that Gomez & Lucroy can sustain their 2014 pace? (Because if Lucroy & Gomez fall back a little, improvements from Braun & Segura just put us right back at 82-80 and that is if we can replace K-Rod's production in the bullpen. Please don't tell me we can count on Broxton for that!) Meanwhile, I think a lot of people have underrated Rickie Weeks' .274 BA, .357 OBP and 1.2 WAR in 2014.... who replaces that production? Scooter? Seriously? You just expect that all of a sudden Scooter Gennett is going to hit LHP (at a .357 OBP pace, no less) and go from a 1.8 WAR guy to a 3 WAR guy? I suppose that is possible but seems foolhardy to count on (edited for grammar)
  11. I guess if you want to sink all of your faith into WAR, the more power to ya but 1B is already been upgraded from the left side of the plate going into this season whether you want to believe it or not. Correct. We have upgraded 1B vs RHP..... again, I'm saying that alone doesn't catapult the 2015 Brewers into playoff contention. More needs to be done to upgrade the 2015 Brewers Who is going to play 1B & 2B vs LHP? Who is going to replace K-Rod in the bullpen? What options do we have if/when Aramis gets injured? And much of what I just mentioned gets us back to an 82-80 record
  12. According to Fangraphs, the Brewers WAR between Reynolds & Overbay was, collectively, 1.4 ..... Adam Lind's WAR was 1.6 Expecting that adding Lind is going to somehow take care of the Brewers' problems and put them in the playoffs, without making any other significant changes, is foolhardy at best Lind as a replacement for Overbay (-0.2 WAR in 2014) is a difference of 1.8 WAR, which is not insignificant. But more needs to be done
  13. It's arb money which isn't just going based on last season's numbers. Gotta make it up to him for paying him 500k-ish for 3 seasons. Of course that's reading that statement in today's money. Yeah thinking what the general pay was 15years ago that is crazy. Thanks, that makes sense. Yes indeed times have changed I agree with others that Francisco was better than Overbay or Reynolds last year (I'd still rather have Lind than Francisco)
  14. Badgers vs UW-Green Bay tonight. Looking forward to it
  15. Brewers need lefty pitchers. They should break the bank for Andrew Miller. Except, of course, the Brewers can't afford it (supposedly)..... they had better sign a few LHP's though, because otherwise Roenicke will prematurely end Will Smith's career by overusing him http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/millean01.shtml
  16. Navarro becomes a free agent in 2016. So you'd give up 4 years of Maldonado for 1 year of Navarro?
  17. Crazy that .220/.291/.456 gets you $2.2 million!
  18. Kind of a bizarre signing for Oakland, I think. They weren't a team I'd expect to sign Butler
  19. Yes, that alone would add 3-4 wins....
  20. Yes, that speaks more to how weak the Brewers were rather than any sort of elevation of my perception of Davis. You simply need more production out of a corner outfielder, in order to contend, than a 107 OPS+ and a .298 OBP vs RHP According to Fangraphs, Davis was 14th among Left-Fielders in the entire MLB in WAR. So while he certainly wasn't awful, he definitely wasn't great either. I see LF as an area that the Brewers could use an upgrade. Perhaps platooning Davis w/ Parra will help. And it certainly is possible that Davis will hit better in 2015. It isn't very likely that his defense will improve much, which to me means there is a reasonable assumption that he will basically be a replacement level performer against RHP. Trading for Justin Upton (who was 5th among MLB LF'ers with a 3.9 WAR, and who will be a free agent in 2016), is, I believe, the kind of move a team would make if they were serious about contending in 2015, not penciling in Khris Davis as a starter.
  21. I don't think there'll be other major moves. The publicity campaign will focus on Ryan braun's health as "it's like acquiring an MVP in the off-season"
  22. the option is great for the Marlins, ideally (for them) they'll have him through the age 31 season and then he'll take off for somewhere else
  23. Great signing by Toronto, they just got a lot better. I can't help but laugh at anyone who thinks that Toronto can't "afford" it. These billionaire owners are awash with extra cash, it is like Monopoly money to them....
  24. Great signing by the Marlins. Who wouldn't want Stanton on their roster?
  25. A good solid pickup. Wren is just 23 and has hit at every level so far. Would like to see him increase his walk rate even more (.362 career OBP in the minors so far) as he stole 46 bases last year http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=wren--000kyl
