  1. From a marketing standpoint the Brewers missed big on the Braun vs Fielder debate, as to who to sign longterm and make the "face of the franchise". That is "if" Fielder could have been legitimately signed longterm and that is a big "if".
  2. And they passed on Madison Bumgarner in 2007 to instead select Matt LaPorta!
  3. Yep, and with a 2nd Wild-Card team, building a roster that can play .500 ball most years and every once in awhile have everything come into place that will allow for playoff consideration, complete with trading away prospects at the Trade Deadline actually makes sense, to Mark A, from a business standpoint. Keep in mind that the value of the Brewers has tripled since he bought the team Our best hope is not that he hires a new GM, our best hope is that he sells the team to someone who can hire the right front office people and then not meddle one iota with player personnel issues
  4. Fielder wasn't going to stick around Choosing Hart over Cruz was a huge organizational blunder
  5. Setting aside public opinion and finger pointing for a moment, yes Braun deserves an All-Star spot
  6. Day game with no TV broadcast, but wow: 4-5 posts on an in-game thread. Brewers popularity reaches new low Cue more Star Wars themes and other MiLB ideas to get fans in the stands. Maybe we can have a Hank vs the Racing Sausages race night, complete with NASCAR themes and Country Bands? Yeee-haw Brewers
  7. They put together a system: Power hitters w/o emphasis on plate discipline. Defensive position doesn't really matter. As long as there is potential for 20-25 HR's a season they'll find a place for them. Prospects they can trade for MLB ready players. Pitchers over the age of 30 with "name-cred" but still affordable via free agency. This is/was a high enough priority to forego a #1 draft pick to make it happen Re-Sign/Extend popular Brewers players Attempt to contend every year Place a priority on ticket sales/emphasis on name players It isn't as if they don't have a system or way of doing things. They have a system. Problem is, the system is incredibly flawed. Potential huge problem is: it is Mark A's system, not Doug Melvin
  8. They are the Brewers. They have no clue how to develop pitchers without abusing arms and risking injury. Mark A demands wins due to fear of empty seats in July, thus Fiers must be pushed!
  9. Firing Roenicke was a step in the right direction though. The whole franchise for the most part needs to be upgraded. I like Ray Montgomery's potential. I like Counsell, too I don't think too many people thought firing RRR and hiring Counsell would turn the team around
  10. I tend to think Garza is better suited towards pitching in a pitcher's park (which I suppose could be said about anybody). I think he could have success pitching in LA or Seattle or San Diego
  11. With Carlos Gomez hitting .259 with a .310 OBP and 4 HR's, I think it is just as likely that he returns to his 2012 offensive output as it is that he repeats 2013/2014 .... far better to capitalize on his value very soon before it drops
  12. I think it's a bit premature to say any of those three are going to have any larger return than the incredible amount of talent our last rebuild effort got us. A few guys get hurt or turn out to be incredibly average and the dynasty is short lived. You know who doesn't tear everything apart start over? The Cardinals. It isn't a coincidence that they remained competitive throughout several Cub and Astro rebuilds. The Cardinals are very successful at drafting and developing pitching. They also develop players who can get on base and play fundamentally strong defense. In multiple ways the Cardinals are the "anti-Doug Melvin".
  13. So the only way Brewers fans can effectively get through to Mark A that he needs to completely restructure the front office and the way the Brewers run their franchise is to stop buying tickets. I'm in.
  14. I like Brian Anderson quite a bit, think he calls a good game. Uecker on TV doing play by play would be more fun, but Anderson is very good. I think Schroeder is good too, it is just that he says the same thing game after game and it gets old after so many years. Schroeder knows the game of Baseball though, and I like his old school mentality
  15. My faith in Mark A is at an All-Time Low, so take it with a grain of salt when I post this: I sincerely think there is a 50/50 chance that the Brewers will extend Gomez longterm. Overpaying Gomez for his age 31-35 seasons is much more in lockstep with the Brewers standard method of operations than trading him this season.
  16. Brett Lawrie. Jury is still out though. Still time for him to get it together The other one was Rickie Weeks. I thought he was going to be Hall of Fame material and one of the All-Time great 2B's.
  17. Exactly! Throw in trades of Lind. Ramirez, Lohse, K-Rod, Parra, Garza and you've got yourself more prospects, too
  18. Playoffs? Next year? I think the likelihood of the Brewers being playoff contenders next season is extremely slim. We don't have enough pitching.
  19. The trades themselves, prospects for players, were OK. Sabathia got us into the playoffs. Greinke trade turned out OK. Marcum trade was stupid. Lind trade was fantastic. Aoki for Smith was fantastic. Would've been even better if Smith wasn't abused The biggest mistake the Brewers have made is in signing all these free agents over the age of 30. Lohse, Ramirez, Suppan, Garza. All completely asinine signings that show that either the game has passed Melvin by or that Mark A is a meddling owner playing fantasy Baseball with monopoly money. If none of those signings had taken place and the Brewers had instead invested that money in international signings, the team as a whole would be in much much better shape
  20. Braun is a skilled LF and not bad at RF. He'd probably be OK at 1B. I'm glad he's been hitting so well as of late. He does look a little smaller than he did in his 2011/2012 seasons, especially in the hips/thighs.....
  21. wow harsh indeed On the plus side it gets his arm a nice amount of rest. in 2014 RRR completely abused him & overused him and he's certainly seen a lot of playing time in 2015. Smith can be a truly great pitcher is not abused
  22. Sardinas, to a degree, is an example of the Doug Melvin led front office's inability to develop/draft or trade for players that are capable of achieving a high OBP. Sardinas is yet another free swinger in a long line of Brewers free swingers. Look at Sardinas' 2014 MiLB stats: a .281 BA and .302 OBP .... that is just brutally below average OBP .... it doesn't matter how good his glove is, he'll always just be a AAAA player or backup MLB player especially when Arcia's glove & bat are better. Adam Lind is a great, patient hitter. The Brewers need 5 more Linds in the lineup if they ever want to contend, unless they build an All-Time great pitching rotation.
