  1. It is beginning to look like the Brewers might be battling it out with the Reds to stay out of the cellar. It is still early in the off-season and it'll be interesting to see what other moves the Brewers and the rest of their division rivals make. I would hope that these recent developments w/ the Cubs will make Melvin & Mark A reassess whether they truly have a roster that can contend in 2015
  2. I sincerely believe that Weeks is one of the most underrated players in the history of Brewerfan.net I do not want to see Weeks in a Cardinals uniform
  3. Only 20 more years and we can expect the same from Mark Attanasio. Can't wait to see the 2035 Milwaukee Brewers!!!!
  4. Hasn't hit MLB pitching yet http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=jimenlu02&year=Career&t=b But he has hit MiLB pitching well, with a nice low walk-rate which will fit right in with the free-swingin' Brew Crew http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=jimene006lui
  5. Hopefully Lind never starts against LHP
  6. In my opinion: That isn't their top priority. They just want to fill the seats with a pretty good team that has a chance to contend. They are scared that if they trade away name players, attendance will drop
  7. You can certainly platoon 3 positions. The Baltimore Orioles did it in 1983 and won a WS. Maybe times have changed too much since then but I don't think so. If anything, with pitching so dominant these days, you can't allow players to give away at-bats, like Davis does vs RHP or Gennett & Lind do vs LHP If the argument is that we need a better platoon mate for Davis than Parra, I'm all for that. Parra did hit .280/.324 in the 2nd half last year and provided stellar defense, something that the Brewers are sorely lacking outside of Lucroy, Segura, Gomez I hope you are right. There is certainly a plausible argument to suggest you will be correct. I just have real doubts.
  8. Meant to add: I can understand the optimism when it comes to Davis. He's a guy who out-produced (in terms of WAR at least) Shin-Soo Choo and Matt Kemp at a fraction of the price. His offensive stats were very similar to Yoenis Cespedes. He ranked 14th in MLB in WAR among all LF's. That isn't horrible I hope he ends up becoming great. I just have real concerns
  9. OK sure, but Khris Davis isn't anything special yet, either. If one feels like he can develop into a very good player (I don't really), then you give him that chance. But this is a guy who had a 107 OPS+ in 2014 and had a .298 OBP vs RHP Maybe Davis has potential. He's going into his age 27 season and is a low cost player. But I sincerely see him as one of the problem spots for the Brewers and not a bright light of potential. I see, if the Brewers really are "going for it", that to me LF is an area that needs to be upgraded. Parra as a platoon mate (even just a soft-platoon) is an upgrade to a degree. Trading away Parra for a relief pitcher and counting on Davis full-time "because he hit 22 HR's" is potentially a real blunder. If you start trotting out players like Davis, Gennett & Lind without platoon mates you could potentially see some extremely mediocre Baseball from the Brewers in 2015. (On the plus side of that at least we could be sellers at the deadline and build for the future)
  10. You have a LF in Davis who is horrible vs RHP and below average on defense, and you get a Gold Glove caliber guy in Parra to platoon with him, problem solved, and then just trade him for a relief pitcher? That makes no sense to me other than a salary dump, which as a fan is frustrating
  11. Rosenthal reporting the Brewers are open to trading Parra, possibly for a relief pitcher.... I hope they don't do that. Unless this is part of a bigger move involving bringing in a top flight LF (Justin Upton?) which I seriously doubt http://www.brewcrewball.com/2014/12/8/7353231/gerardo-parra-trade-rumors-brewers
  12. Hopefully just GM-speak and posturing but it ain't looking good http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/brewers-gm-doug-melvin-not-planning-major-moves-b99404509z1-285037311.html
  13. I agree that adding Lind is a pretty significant upgrade. But there are still real questions about the bullpen I agree with the OP that if we essentially stand pat from here on out we are in serious trouble. In the 2nd Half of 2014 Jean Segura hit .270 with a .330 OBP and played very solid defense. We have way bigger problems than Jean Segura. In fact he is one of the bright spots in terms of his potential. I think the Brewers will miss Rickie Weeks way more than most will admit. I don't think Scooter can hit lefties and you shouldn't just plug anyone in to platoon with him. 1B vs LHP is another big concern.
  14. Gregorius is a pretty good ballplayer, but it is hard to imagine him being the guy to replace Jeter
  15. What's wrong with Kintzler? He's not an All-Star but he is a good solid proven pro pitcher. A career 3.26 ERA/120 ERA+ pitcher who is going into his age 30 season (2.93 ERA/131 ERA+ in the last 2 seasons). Good signing and I'm very very glad he's back
  16. This is the move the Mariners should have made last year.
  17. Good Lord almighty I believe Billy Beane has jumped the shark.
  18. I would love to see the Brewers take a chance on Craig, but I don't see it happening (as others have said) due to his contract. He was injured last season, I think he'll rebound to being productive if healthy, but I suppose that is the "if" that is of concern. He is the exact kind of hitter that the Brewers desperately need more of: patient, high on-base percentage, a smart hitter and a "clutch" hitter. He'll be 30 in 2015, way too young to just give up on.
  19. MVP Braun alone gives this team an extra 4-5 wins over 2014 Braun. But expecting 35-40 HR's and a .330 BA is unrealistic, I agree. As reillymcshane said, a 25-30 HR, .300 BA year from Braun definitely changes the complexion of the team and would certainly add a few extra wins to the Brew Crew.
  20. Definitely great news. Hopefully it can hold up through the season.
  21. I would go on at length about your post as I've done in the past, but I really have grown incredibly weary of this debate. The Brewers as a business have finite resources, Mark A's wealth is irrelevant. The continual hardline statements like "I just refuse to believe..." suggest that you really aren't interested in a reasoned debate of the facts, but instead rather simply pushing your opinion as fact. To the contrary, I have read carefully the contradictory statements by those here who have clearly delineated the choices Mark A makes as being his customary methods of operation. It isn't something I feel the need to go on & on about, and will only very occasionally bring up every once in awhile, moving forwards. If what others have said is true, and there is a financial ceiling that Mark A will not go beyond no matter what, then more than ever I feel that Doug Melvin is the wrong GM for the Brewers.
  22. So, essentially then, Mark A is the biggest problem the Brewers have. He cares more about his own money than he cares about the Brewers winning a World Series Again I say his lifestyle and the lifestyle of his family wouldn't change one iota if he has $50 million or $200 million. I hope he sells the team to someone who cares mostly about Championships
  23. Rich people are rich (except NBA players) because they generally don't get involved in red-cost ventures. That's why teams have budgets. It's really easy for you to sit here as a fan and say "WELL I DONT CARE IF MARK A LOSES MONEY I WANT A CHAMPIONSHIP", but clearly, he is not going to choose to operate that way. He got rich by not operating that way, and there's nothing suggest that he's going to change the way he manages his money. Just so long as we all understand it is a choice he is making. It is not as if he cannot afford to sign more players, he's choosing not to. Personally I care a lot more about the Brewers winning than I do whether Mark A ends up worth $100 million or $1 billion!
  24. I just refuse to believe that the Brewers cannot afford to contend. The value of the Brewers has nearly doubled (if not more) since Mark A bought the team. We're talking a few hundred million dolars in increased value. Why not put that into the team? Mark A and the rest of the ownership group are all extremely wealthy men. They don't need to turn a profit by owning the Brewers. They are choosing to claim "small market, small market" and making sure they profit while loyal Brewers fans are hoodwinked into believing that we are "going for it" and "doing everything we can to compete for a title" or "can't afford to compete on an even playing field with big market teams"
  25. Josh Gibson waves hello and say's "just MLB history" Also, if you believe the steroid rumors about Piazza and factor in defense, I'd rather have Bench or Campanella or Berra
