  1. Melvin, at least my best guess, is aiming high for an elite SS prospect, either Profar or Segura (or Machado). I would hope that the reports that 3B Mike Olt "isn't a good fit for the Brewers because they already have Aramis Ramirez" is just plain very poor journalism ---- but then again this is the franchise who decided they had to trade Brett Lawrie because they already had Rickie Weeks! You can trade Ramirez, or you can move Hart back to RF and put Olt at 1B, or you can put Olt at 3B with Ramirez at 1B and Hart in RF. There, my 9 year old son figured that one out in about 3 minutes If Olt is the best prospect you can get, you take him. He's in AA right now anyways, will he even be MLB ready in 2013? Hart will very likely be gone in 2014 I think Melvin is working very hard trying to get Profar and has an offer of Olt and Martin Perez already in place, he's seeing if he can "up the ante by playing the Angels & Rangers against each other.... I could see the White Sox offering Alexei Ramirez & an MLB ready pitcher or 2, maybe Addison Reed, and Melvin being tempted by that. Melvin seems to have a weakness for already proven MLB players who don't have top prospect ceilings.... the thing is, Alexei Ramirez and Addison Reed plus a pitcher would make the Brewers better....
  2. yeah I don't get it either. He's an elite pitcher, certainly better than Greinke, and would bring back a huge haul.
  3. John Smoltz spoke really highly of Fiers recently on the MLB Network. I think Fiers could be a solid #3 pitcher someday and maybe even better. He hides the ball incredibly well
  4. I'd think that Wolf has some value as a LHP out of the bullpen for a contending team. Doesn't he?
  5. ain't it though? craaazzzzzy we'll likely see Kottaras dealt today, I'm thinking to the Nationals for a relief pitcher, especially with Lucroy back tomorrow the most interesting part of that article was the inclusion of Hart as a possible trade chip
  6. I've read that Profar is the only player in the entire Rangers organization not available. They won't trade Profar. Could be posturing, though. Greinke & Fiers & Axford for Profar though? Maybe, but that sure sounds like too much to give up even for an elite prospect
  7. Mike Olt has 26 HR's, 76 RBI's and 56 walks in 87 games (.397 OBP) in AA this year. If we can get Olt and a pitcher like Martin Perez we should consider ourselves lucky
  8. Any chance we could get Olt and Feliz or is that just wishful thinking?
  9. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/the-gms-office/post?id=4642&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fblog%2fthe-gms-office%2fpost%3fid%3d4642 An article speculating that the Rangers will be in on Greinke and that Olt isn't a "good fit" because of Aramis Ramirez. (cue Scooby Doo voice) "huh?" Anyways.... they say Feliz or Martin Perez could be part of a deal. Not sure what to think about Feliz, especially as he hurt his elbow and is on a rehab start now. He's arby eligible in 2013 and would be a free agent in 2016
  10. it really does. Speculation has been they could do a 3 team trade somehow involving Gavin Floyd. I just don't see it Would the White Sox involve Addison Reed in a trade and go with Myers as their closer? I don't see it. And I would hope we could get more than a closer as the centerpiece of a Greinke deal. Reed was the #1 White Sox prospect going into the season and has been good but not lights out as a 23 year old MLB closer this year
  11. "White Sox want Greinke badly" http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=MLB&id=3796&line=371159&spln=1 How much are they willing to overpay, and with whom?
  12. Baseball Prospectus raves about him: great stuff, great fastball, great poise. Speculation is he's been rushed up to MLB. I'm actually hoping for Teheran more than Olt at this point
  13. The more I read about Teheran the more I'd be thrilled if the Brewers traded for him. Baseball Prospectus had him as the #6 overall prospect at the beginning of the year. The thought is that his struggles this year are more about him being rushed to MLB than anything else, and he still projects as a #1 or #2 starter.... Ken Rosenthal says the White Sox want Greinke badly
  14. This Blog says the Brewers would be focused more on Julio Teheran instead of Delgado, and the Brewers would want Teheran plus another prospect. Pure speculation? Teheran has really struggled in both AAA and MLB this season http://mlb.mlblogs.com/
  15. I think Greinke wants to play for a contending team and doesn't think the Brewers will be a contending team anytime soon. It isn't just about the money with him
  16. I wouldn't trade Braun, Fiers, Gallardo or Maldonado. Anyone else I would be open to discussing. I'd be very reluctant to trade Thornburg, Bradley, Nelson, Peralta, Gennett or Jungmann, too
  17. What am I missing on Randall Delgado? The fact that he's young and pitched well in 7 games in MLB in 2011? He's pitched pretty poorly this year. His minor league stats show a guy who walks a lot of people and strikes out a lot of people and consistently gives up runs. Manny Parra had pretty similar stats as Delgado at similar ages/levels in A ball and AA. Granted Parra didn't make it to MLB as fast....
  18. I would be pretty disappointed if we traded Greinke for Delgado. I'm not convinced that Delgado will even be a starting pitcher in MLB. His minor league stats are pretty underwhelming http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=delgad001ran
  19. I think the Rangers won't deal Profar, certainly not for a rental. Maybe, and a slight maybe, they trade Profar if Greinke agrees to an extension with the Rangers at the time of the trade. Profar looks like the next Trout/Harper Honestly I'd be thrilled with Olt for Greinke straight up. My concern is Melvin will be locked into a "must get pitching back" mindset and will trade Greinke for a pitcher who will be less valuable than Olt That is, assuming that Olt is available. If I was the Rangers there is no way I'd trade either Profar or Olt
  20. zero chance? Even if Lucroy and Marcum come back 100% and the core of Weeks, Braun, K-Rod, Axford & Hart all play to their potential? I would agree that it isn't likely, but no way is it 0% probable. At any rate, no way do I trade Maldonado unless blown away by a ridiculous overpay of epic proportions. I actually think that Maldonado is so valuable behind the plate that in the off-season you find a new position for Lucroy (2B? RF?) and have Lucroy catch one out of 5 games. I know that isn't likely but that is what I'd do.... Lucroy only having to catch one out of 5 games would likely hit consistently over .315 and Maldonado could win a Gold Glove or three. Win-Win. But yeah, I know it won't happen Provided he comes back 100%, this offseason would be a great time to trade Lucroy in a classic "trade-high" scenario. He'd have very real trade value and could bring us back someone very good
  21. Hanley hitting in Miller Park could easily get 35 HR's a season. The problem is that Hanley hitting in Miller Park could easily get 35 HR's a season. And bat .254 with a .320 OBP, i.e. he's lost his plate discipline and become a guy who just swings for the fences. He is also no longer a guy who can steal 50 bases a season. And he's a head-case Back when he hit .300+ with speed on the bases and a .380 OBP along with some HR power and a plus glove he was looking like a legit potential Hall of Famer High ceilings are tempting, but it would sure be a big role of the dice at that price. Maybe if we had Ted Williams as a batting coach Yes 35 HR's and a .254 BA is an improvement over what we have at SS, but is it worth $17 million a year?
  22. It wouldn't shock me. Although I do think he'll be fine I'm also beginning to think that Greinke is overrated. He had that one incredible Cy Young season. But he is what he is, a 3.80 ERA and 115 ERA+ guy. He shows flashes of incredible stuff but he's way closer to a "pretty good" pitcher than a potential Hall of Fame guy. His ERA+ last year was 104! I don't believe that Greinke deserves Matt Cain (3.30 ERA, 124 ERA+, 0.00 postseason ERA) money, and I'll be very happy to see the Brewers get a good prospect for Greinke and absolutely thrilled if we could get a top prospect for him.
  23. Just a pure guess/hunch but I think Greinke & his wife want to go back to Kansas City, and I'm predicting he'll sign with the Royals in the off-season. The Brewers should continue to try to extend him, but trade him if they can't
  24. I always find it interesting when Brett Lawrie is talked about in terms of "what if" as a Brewers 3B, if he hadn't been traded. Even Doug Melvin did it recently in an interview. That is pure revisionist history. There is no indication that the Brewers ever even conceived of Lawrie as a 3B. He never even played one inning of 3B in the Brewers system. When the Brewers traded Lawrie for Marcum, Melvin said that Lawrie was blocked at 2B by Rickie Weeks
  25. I would be absolutely thrilled if Melvin pulled that off. Giddy even.... on cloud nine
