  1. I think we should trade for Bartolo Colon too
  2. you guys realize that Eloy Jimenez & Corey Ray play in the same league, right? The Carolina League A+ ball Jimenez at age 20 .300/.378/.545 Ray at age 22 .235/.310/.370 They are not even close as prospects. Jimenez at age 19 in A Ball last year hit .329/.369/.532 in over 400 At-Bats
  3. Lewis Brinson has looked fantastic in the last 2 games. I'm starting to see what the hype is about. He's got a very quick swing. Looking forward to 6 years of Brinson being a Brewer
  4. Small sample but after watching Brinson swing the bat the last 2 games I'm starting to see what the hype is about. I wouldn't trade him unless we're getting Fulmer
  5. let the speculation begin as to why Brinson is starting vs a RHP and not Phillips.... edit: Phillips was optioned. OK. I'd rather they keep them both up and have a shorter bullpen. All of our OF's are RH hitters
  6. Nice to see Brinson get his first HR last night. Hopefully his hitting will really take off at the MLB level. He definitely had better at-bats yesterday. Still looks like more of a corner OF to me though than a CF
  7. He had to stop at the Wilmer Flores grief counseling institute on the way.... the treatment is covered in the CBA
  8. Depending on when a trade happens, maybe not even Craig Counsell yet!
  9. Thinking Zimmerman plus either Verlander or (gasp) Fulmer and maybe Kinsler for a huge package deal that includes Phillips + Hader or Ortiz + Diaz + lower level prospects
  10. Absolutely yes. I'd be thrilled to get Fulmer
  11. Improving the bullpen is a must, so I like the trade. It is easy to criticize based on looking at the trade in a vacuum, however this is just one move in the big picture and helps the 2017 team. We all know the cost of relief pitching is high, considering that I would have guessed that we'd need to move more for Swarzak than just Cordell.
  12. This has been an interesting thread with lots of speculation, but yes I think it is just that Braun cannot stay healthy
  13. While noting that even a broken clock is correct twice a day, I guess it wasn't quite just in my imagination https://www.brewcrewball.com/2017/7/22/16014934/david-stearns-mark-attanasio-brewers-trade-deadline
  14. I'd rather have a 5 man bench, especially if it means Brett Phillips staying up the rest of the year. Would prefer they have a revolving door at the back of the bullpen as opposed to Hernan Perez being our 4th outfielder
  15. I'm all for getting Verlander as long as we don't have to trade Brinson, Phillips, Dubon, Hader, Woodruff or Burnes for him
  16. I edited your full quote just to save space but wanted to say Thank You! That was one of the most articulate & thought provoking posts I've seen on here in awhile. Very well said. Being a GM is similar to being a chess master, you must work within the context of a 5 year plan at all times. The game does change and evolve. I sense that Stearns is a little ahead of the curve in looking for athleticism & versatile positions players vs just 3TO mashers. I see him and others like him staying current as opposed to GM's like Dombrowski & Avila and to a lesser degree Cashman for whom the game is passing them by....
  17. It would an amazing return for Knebel if the Brewers went that route
  18. Looking at career stats for a pitcher is somewhat similar to evaluating pitchers based on Win-Loss record. Look at the last 2 seasons. I understand that to get Gray or any other "big name" starting pitcher the trade will have to include, most likely, Brinson or Phillips, I understand that. But you don't go including a player like Dubon who played great in the Futures Game as well as a key portion of your future rotation in Woodruff if all you are getting back is Sonny Gray
  19. Lord have mercy! That would be a tremendous overpay by the Brewers!!!! I could see a deal like that for Stroman, but Gray? Wow You do understand that in 2016/2017 combined Gray has a 4.86 ERA (with a pitchers park as a home field) with a 1.354 WHIP and an 84 ERA+
  20. It is an interesting trade, in that it puts pressure on the Red Sox to have to overpay for a different 3B (Josh Donaldson perhaps?) as it was somewhat assumed that Boston would be getting Frazier
  21. Expectations, to me, for 2018 are the following: Give plenty of playing time to Brinson & Phillips, we need to figure out who our longterm CF is Keston Hiura finishing the year in AAA, with the idea that he'll be a big contributor in 2019 No more long leashes with poor production. If Broxton/Villar etc don't hit, they sit Figure out if Hader is a starter or relief ace Woodruff in the starting rotation Mauricio Dubon on the MLB roster, as a super utility player, getting 3-4 starts per week at various positions Orlando Arcia in the All-Star Game
  22. *Hiura yes, Kiura is my poor attempt at a nickname. K Hiura = Kiura as in Kiura ("cure a") franchise of never winning a World Series I'll let it go
  23. 2 average middle infielders and 3 back-end starters? Oh boy. Average? Did you just call Arcia & Kiura average? Wow
  24. Kiura, Burnes, Woodruff, Hader, Arcia. That is the real Brewers core
  25. would like to see Brett Phillips get a start in this game
