  1. Small Market team cannot likely be a playoff team every year, that isn't realistic. Much better to have years you go for it and years you rebuild. *Newsflash*: Red Sox, Yankees & Dodgers don't make the playoffs every year either, they aren't "consistent playoff teams" Mark A's words bother me, too.
  2. Which is all the more reason to trade him and get a very very nice return of great prospects. It is extremely doubtful that the Brewers will be legit contenders before Lucroy's skills begin to significantly decline anyways
  3. Pretty much nailed it so I didn't have to type as much. Agree 90% with everything above (except I would not sign any free agents) I would add that I'd like to see younger players get lots of playing time. Would be awesome to trade Braun & Lucroy I also hope they draft best players available and not be tied into organiztional needs Finally, I'd love to see them go "all in" on international free agents, especially Dominican Republic players & Cuban players, with the $$$ saved from dealing Braun, Lucroy, Lind, Garza, Lohse
  4. The correct move would be signing none of them Invest that money in the international free agent market
  5. Torn here. Prefer to beat the Cardinals. Prefer to have the highest draft pick possible
  6. He certainly fits the profile if Doug Melvin was still in charge
  7. I was struck throughout the press conference with how completely unfocused Mark A came across and how much in contrast Stearns appeared focused, polished and alert.
  8. Must say, I'm pretty thrilled. As others have mentioned "time will tell", but this sure feels like a step in the right direction.
  9. That's why his name is "Fields." yeah tell that to Prince Fielder. Fields is worth taking a shot at to see if he develops. Lefty bat and he has plus speed. I like that he draws walks. He's only 24. He might be a longshot but he can provide depth in the OF if he can hit a little more. He's had at least one pretty good season: .284/.356 in AA Ball in 2013, that makes him worth taking a shot st
  10. Kantrovitz is the former Director of Scouting for St Louis http://m.mlb.com/news/article/26408504/
  11. Brewers receive permission to interview Athletics asst GM Dan Kantrovitz for their GM opening
  12. If the season ended right now, the Brewers would still have the #7 pick in the draft.
  13. I don't understand why they won't give Scooter a chance to face LHP in games like this
  14. Don't get caught up too much on small sample stats. His overall AA stat line this year is a solid .294/.368/.444/.812 and looking at his entire 2015 season he's at .309/.374/.527/.901 Considering that he's only 21 years old. It would make sense to keep him in AAA for all of 2016 (except maybe a Sept callup) and bring him to MLB at age 23 in 2017
  15. Translated as: "We just got whupped by the team with the 6th worst record in MLB. Better say good things about them to help save face. Our fans aren't happy" Not buying it
  16. It would have only worked if we had the Dodger's coaching staff and Dodgers stadium, too. Bonus points if the Brewers had more road games in San Diego & San Francisco than Cincy & Wrigley.
  17. interesting development. I suppose Jay Z is now, once again, the real "JZ"
  18. We are an optimistic lot in preseason here at Brewerfan.net, I'll give us that. I laugh at my prediction of 80-82 although I was of course correct about "no playoffs" I am thrilled that my predicxted "disappointment" of Melvin & Roenicke will be invited back after the season won't come true. That gives me a little hope
  19. One of the most talented players in Baseball but on the downward side of his career. I'm thrilled with the trade the Brewers made, I think it was (almost) perfect timing. I have no comments on his "personality" or "attitude". It is foolish to think I know someone based on how he appears on TV or at a game I attended. He hustles and plays hard, I like that in a player
  20. Braun is still an elite hitter vs LHP (.326/.411/.587/.998 this year) He is struggling increasingly vs RHP You could maximize his value by having him always start vs LHP and sit vs the best RHP. That will also likely increase his longevity/durability as he ages. Yes he'd have more value if he could play 1B but that seems fairly unlikely.
  21. I think some of Peralta's struggles have to do with him (how healthy he is & maybe even how overrated he might be) and some of his struggles have to do with who is coaching him.
  22. That pretty sums up how I feel about it. Where does he rank all-time, top 200 even? 206th http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/HR_career.shtml
  23. According to Fangraphs WAR, he'd be #8 in LF. Although conceivably his defensive WAR totals would be better in LF. Cespedes has more than doubled Braun's WAR totals this year and is #1
  24. Braun is currently the #10 RF in WAR in all of MLB. He is 6th among RF's in HR's, tied for 2nd in SB's, 7th in OBP, 7th in SLG % There is real trade value there. I'd love to see a trade of Braun that brings back more prospects
  25. I think Gilbert Lara or Jake Gatewood will be our third baseman of the future. Both should have the power to play the position, and both have above average arms. The only question is if they will hit enough. It would take some tweaking, but this is a possibility: left field: Clint Coulter center: Brett Phillips or Trent Clark right field: Monte Harrison first base: Domingo Santana second base: Yadiel Rivera shortstop: Orlando Arcia third base: Gilbert Lara or Jake Gatewood I have no idea who will catch for us, but there are some really intriguing possibilities for the Brewers of the future. We could have a pretty nice defensive outfield with Harrison in right and Phillips in center. Harrison has an absolute cannon of an arm, so he immediately helps pitchers out by limiting the amount of extra bases taken on balls hit to right. Phillips has a really strong arm, too. The weak link would be Coulter in left. He's slow, but does have a decent arm. Clark and Tyrone Taylor are also in the mix out there. As for Domingo Santana, I just like him better at first. At 6'5" he doesn't even have to jump for balls hit down the line. Rivera is exceptional defensively, and would likely transition well to second. He has the range and arm strength to play the position. How much he will hit at the Major League level remains to be seen. On the left side, we're going to be really solid. Arcia is an exciting prospect. And we have two guys in Lara and Gatewood that could fight it out at the hot corner. They have the size and power potential to make for a prototypical third baseman. Honestly, this group coming up has some exciting potential, but I think no matter how they do from a pure offensive standpoint, our team is going to have much better defense. If the Brewers elect to move Rivera to second, with either Phillips or Clark in center, our defense up the middle is going to be rock solid. I think two or three years from now, we're going to be surprising a lot of people. I would buy plenty of tickets to see a team like that. Especially if we can somehow land Riley Pint in the 2016 draft and Jungmann, Nelson & Peralta continue to develop.
