  1. Oh I've written him plenty of emails. These next few days are really a crossroads for the Attanasio era (I doubt he's going to be a longterm owner. Think he'll cash out in less than 10 years). Are they really going to rebuild or are they still deluding themselves & their fans in thinking they can contend?
  2. Doug Melvin's track record speaks for itself. What is it again? 1 playoff series win in 37 years of front office work? Arcia, Gilbert Lara, Coulter & Jungmann for Cliff Lee?
  3. I'd love to see the Brewers trade for Ozuna. He's only 24 and as said they'd have him through 2019. He's a very talented player. I'm all for them adding young controllable talent as part of a rebuild No more old veteran players please. Cargo? No. Ozuna? Absolutely
  4. Lord have mercy I certainly hope not. We have no where near the pitching or defense to compete with the Cardinals, Pirates & Cubs. All of our top players are aging
  5. I've seen calculations that one WAR is worth about $7M, give or take $1M. Ramirez had a lifetime WAR (according to BR) of 7.3 with the Brewers; at $7M/WAR, that's a value of roughly $51M. Ramirez got a 4 yr/$50M deal; the Pirates are paying $3M of it. He didn't cost a draft pick. He was worth his contract. Lohse's career WAR with MIL is 4.6; while he's having an awful year, he was worth more than his contract the first two years of the deal. At $7M/WAR, that's a lifetime value of $32.2M; he signed for $33M. While he cost the team a draft pick, he is helping the Brewers get a better draft pick (likely top 3-5 and the bonus pool that comes with it) in 2016 instead of being a .500 team with a mid-first-round pick. Suppan absolutely was not worth it. But I hate to disappoint the Lohse and Ramirez haters; they have generally been worth their contracts. It completely depends on how you look at it. The MLB game is changing quickly. Ramirez & Lohse played zero playoffs games with the Brewers. Other than fooling the fanbase into a "Brewers are in it to win it" false hope mentality, their contracts ended up being completely pointless. That $88 Million (!) would have been much better spent on investing in young International talent. And losing a 1st Round pick to sign Lohse was horrendous
  6. It should be no surprise to anyone that the Brewers overvalue their players. Along with ludicrous signings of aging players past their prime (Ramirez, Lohse, Suppan) one of the biggest mistakes of the Melvin era has been extending too many of their own players to bloated contracts instead of recycling them and getting younger. It is indeed a young player's game now.
  7. Jeff Hoffman plus Miguel Castro are 2 very good MiLB arms. Plus Reyes plus 1 more MiLB player equals a strong return for Tulowitzki
  8. Four earned runs in 6 2/3. That's almost nearly a quality start! Yes indeed! I like the optimism.
  9. Hopefully this is just posturing by the Brewers. If they really think they can contend in 2016 it is just the same old same old from Mark A http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/25251462/cardinals-had-talks-about-lind-brewers-havent-ruled-out-keeping-him
  10. Fortunately for Cueto, Yost has a great bullpen, otherwise would pitch him till his arm fell off
  11. Trade value will be much lower them though. Inflated value mid season in a weak market plus a year more of control. You are correct. Still, a player like Lind should land at least a fairly strong return in the offseason (i.e. not all is lost)
  12. Oh man that ain't good at all....hopefully it isn't serious, if it is: can always pick up his option for 2016 & trade him in the offseason though
  13. This is a very good sign, if true: "While the Mets offered a pitching prospect that the Brewers had asked about previously, the interest in Parra is now to the point where the Brewers believe they can do even better." http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/new-york-mets-ben-zobrist-jay-bruce-justin-upton-trade-deadline-ken-rosenthal-072515 ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=952542#p952542 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=32626
  14. The Brewers are 11 games under .500 and way out of the playoff race. The only good team they have a winning record against this season is the Cubs and that will likely change. The Brewers pitching staff ranks 18th in MLB so far this year. Any sort of thought that this current pitching staff is strong enough to compete in the postseason is likely made without delving deeper into the reality of the stats. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2015&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 There are pieces of the current pitching staff that would have value moving forwards (Jungmann, Nelson, Peralta, Smith, Jeffress) if serious upgrades were made to other parts of the staff. In order to acquire top flight pitching we absolutely must trade Gomez & Lucroy and would be wise to trade Braun as well. All 3 are on their decline anyways, and would be fairly doubtful to be huge contributors once the Brewers are ready to make a run again in 2017-2018. Trading Parra & Lind is just common sense. Trading Fiers would be wise, in my opinion too
  15. It won't be long before only casual fans won't realize how much Lucroy wants out of Milwaukee. Definitely not the face of the franchise!
  16. Well said. Lucroy has a heckuva lot of trade value right now. He is also right at the age where a steady decline could happen and his trade value could lessen every year. And it sure seems like he wants out. Perfect storm to be in a place where some very valuable pieces can be added to the Brewers' system.
  17. Orioles might be reversing course and becoming sellers
  18. Would love to see Gomez, Parra, Lucroy, K-Rod traded in the next week.
  19. He hit .232 in the minors as a SS/3B and is a switch-hitter. 1st pinch-hitting Pitcher to rely on in extra innings games in 2017/2018?
  20. Barrios has only been pitching professionally for a year or so. Converted 3B/SS. Pretty good pitching numbers at AA this year, but a very low K/9 http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=barrio001jon
  21. I'm guessing that the Brewers are gonna get more out of Pittsburgh than they would from other teams considering that it's an in-division trade. I'll be very disappointed if that isn't the case. Not expecting a Top 100 Prospect of course, but this shouldn't just be a throwaway deal, the Brewers should get at least a prospect with realistic MLB bullpen potential in return
  22. Cause it would be cheaper to trade for A-Ram and Look at their stats the last 28 days A-Ram: .343, 3hr, 16rbi - .400OBP, .529 SLG - in 70 AB Frazier: .250, 3hr, 14rbi - .265OBP, .417 SLG - in 96 AB Fortunately for their teams, MLB GM's wouldn't dare put that much emphasis on small sample stats like that. The chances are extremely remote that Ramirez will out-produce Frazier the rest of the year. Widen those stats out a little: Frazier has 26 HR's and a 144 OPS+ this year. 129 OPS+ and .502 SLG in the last 250 games (2014 & 2015 combined) Ramirez has 11 HR's and a 96 OPS+ this year. 104 OPS+ and a .428 SLG in the last 214 games (2014 & 2015 combined) They are not even remotely comparable, and that isn't even taking into account durability & defensive issues
  23. Lots of Brewers content in this article with a focus on Gomez/Parra http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/bargain-hunting-at-the-trade-deadline/
  24. With Freese injured they need a 3B. But I can't imagine why the Angels would go after Ramirez instead of trading for Todd Frazier
