  1. Looking a little deeper at his stats, there are a few things that are a cause for concern: LHB's have a .322 OBP vs him He has struggled in Miller Park (opponents hitting .306 vs him there with a .395 OBP in *small sample alert* 2 games) Most of his success has come in extreme pitcxher's parks (LA) or vs teams that are really struggling (CIN/PHI). He did pitch really well at Pittsburgh We'll see.....
  2. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory once again, your 2015 Milwaukee Brewers
  3. Well deserved! Glad Braun is in....
  4. Not as interesting as Jimmy Rollins and his .266 OBP leading off for the Dodgers. Don Mattingly is lucky his team can just buy really good players because he seems really stupid. Agreed!!!!
  5. From the above linked article: "Attanasio's son Mike, an MIT graduate, has been involved in the Brewers' evolving analytics department, providing a hint the club will follow that trend." That is, sincerely, the most encouraging thing I've read about the Brewers this season.
  6. Definitely reason to be optimistic. I'd say he certainly has the long-term potential to be a solid #3 or #4 starter, which, considering the Brewers' struggles to develop pitching, is fantastic I like the intangibles I see from Jungmann: he competes. He has some intensity about him. He likes to go after hitters
  7. that was a very disappointing loss in a season full of disappointing losses On the plus side it was great seeing Nelson pitching so well
  8. Segura is under contract for awhile. Depends on how long the rebuild lasts. Gennett is still barely hitting .100 vs LHP .... I like the possibilities of a Segura/Gennett platoon at 2B in the future with Arcia at SS
  9. Everyone is trade-able if the price is high enough. We could probably get Sano for Gomez & Lucroy
  10. I call your 3 words and raise you 2 other words: 1) Herb 2) Kohl Me neither
  11. I thought the interview was refreshingly honest. If Mark A won't listen to the fans, maybe he'll hear the message more clearly from Lucroy!
  12. Fair enough. I can understand that point of view. I suppose then if you are truly "going for it" in 2011 you have enough brains to not have Yuni B as your SS and the hiring of Roenicke (again in retrospect) was really questionable. The hiring of Macha was clearly questionable. I can accept the point of view that continuing to go for it through 2012 made sense, but there were several blunders that Melvin made from 2009-2012 that really hurt the franchise's chances in those "go for it" years Probably true.
  13. LaPorta was already gone. Trading Fielder after the 2010 season would have brought back a big return. Considering his true greatness, I can understand keeping him through to free agency, but such a move should have been the rare exception not the rule. JJ Hardy was pretty good. Hardly a superstar. Big difference
  14. They had Escobar waiting in the wings. Could have gotten a great return for Hardy after the 2008 season. Couple that with no need to trade 3 top prospects for Greinke who put up a pedestrian 103 ERA+ in 2011 and those 2 moves alone could have really changed the Brewers for the better. No need to overpay for Lohse & Garza when a now 25 year old Odorizzi is out pitching the entire Brewers roster.
  15. They are both the same players with nearly identical stats. Weeks was also a player who got on base and worked the count earlier in his career. You are right. Weeks had a higher walk rate than Markakis and at least could play middle infield. Poor example by me. I stand by my opinions on Melvin's other personnel decisions though I have really not seen that. The Brewers as a team have been filled with way too many free swingers year after year after year. Pointing out exceptions like Cameron and Kapler, with Fielder being another very notable one doesn't make it fact as a whole
  16. Hindsight is 20/20 of course but Nick Markakis would have been a much better selection than Rickie Weeks. Markakis is somewhat an "anti" Doug Melvin player though: someone who gets on base, works the count. A professional hitter. The game passed Melvin by awhile ago, especially his predilection for free swingers with pop. The Greinke trade hurt the Brewers a lot. Odorizzi, Cain & Escobar would be very valuable as Brewers right now. People who think the Brewers wouldn't have made the playoffs w/o Greinke are fooling themselves. He put up a 103 ERA+ in 2011 and was statistically horrible in the postseason that year. The Brewers should have traded Hardy after the 2008 season when his value was much higher than in 2009. The Carlos Lee trade was amateurish at best. The Brewers missed big on giving contracts to Suppan, Lohse, Ramirez, Bill Hall, Corey Hart, Mark Reynolds They actually replaced Alcides Escobar with Yuni Betancourt and thought Yuni B was suitable as a SS on a playoff team. That was the most laughable decision of Melvin's very laughable career Honestly, to much of MLB, Doug Melvin is a joke. One of the very worst GM's in the game today
  17. Can't really see them trading for Lind, when Cabrera will be back in 6 weeks and they have Victor Martinez as a DH. Aramis Ramirez is pretty much done. Why would anyone trade for him?
  18. It is a small sample with Gallardo & Estrada, but I believe that the Brewers organization as a whole is less than ideal (to say the least) at developing & coaching pitchers
  19. Is Montgomery more of a new age sabermetrics type or old school type? I'd prefer that Melvin leaves and enjoys his retirement. How a GM can run a team into the ground and be retained is beyong my comprehension Jerry DiPoto would be an interesting hire as a GM. But Melvin as Dipoto's boss would be laughable
  20. In which small sample? The stats just with the Brewers? Or the .213 BA/.244 OBP and 44 OPS+ he's put up vs MLB pitching in 2015? I think he has an MLB caliber glove & arm. Jury is still out on his bat.
  21. I feel like that has already happened and is happening right now Prove me wrong Brewers! We could get some significant prospects for Gomez, Braun & Lucroy
  22. This has been a brutally frustrating team to root for in the last few years and will be even moreso if they extend or hold onto Lucroy simply for ticket revenue
  23. I'd be thrilled if the Brewers could pull off a Gomez trade for very good prospects MLB Network this morning speculated that the Giants might be interested in Gomez Here are a few of the Giants' more intriguing prospects Mac Williamson's power numbers are down at age 24 in AA ball, but he's still hitting .296/.368 .... he's a big corner outfielder type. Not an elite prospect but someone to watchhttp://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=willia028joh Keurry Mella, pitcher who throws in the mid to high 90's. Having a good year in A+ ball at age 21 this year http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=mella-000keu Kyle Crick was a 1st Round pick in 2011. He's battled control problems his whole career. His ERA is down this year in AA Ball at the age of 22 but his WHIP is still way too high (1.624). Not who I would want as the centerpiece of a Gomez trade, but the type of pitcher the Giants would look to move as buyers Tyler Beede has the big name from being a college star and 1st round pick but has struggled in AA Ball with a 5+ ERA and 1.243 WHIP with a K/9 rate way down to 5 Chrisian Arroyo is a solid SS prospect but certainly no Orlando Arcia. Arroyo can play 2B & 3B but he's another .300/.336 guy and the Brewers have a ton of them I'd be pretty happy with a combination of Crick & Mella. Think Mella has real potential. Doubt the Giants would give up on Beede so soon but could see the Giants offering Beede & Crick and trying to keep Mella. We'll see.... Could see the negotiations starting at Crick & Williamson
  24. Carlos Gomez was discussed on MLB Network this morning. There was a mention of San Francisco being interested in Gomez (edited in retrospect for accuracy)
