  1. I love Sal. I, too, am glad that he has fun with fan engagement. (But the fan that climbed the net? Get outta here, man. Do you want 13-year-olds doing it? No? Then why on earth do we want THAT guy doing it, and getting "rewarded" for it?) edit to add: I realize that you weren't necessarily condoning the climbing of the net. I just had that stuck in my craw.
  2. I don't think Ortiz or Durbin are going anywhere, including Nashville. The skills they offer are good skills to have on the team. But I DO think that the Brewers could try a different internal candidate for a bench/platoon option. A Wilken for Monasterio switch would at least give the Brewers a big thumper threat off the bench or in a limited starting role.
  3. Miguel Vargas? Prospect overpay for C.J. Abrams or Zach Neto?
  4. I don't mean to be so negative about it, it's just that I don't see anyone that could be available that is good enough to part with decent prospects that aren't difficult to acquire for some other reason. And this has been a conversation for 9 months. My opinions... - Very few of us are willing to part with any of the top 5 to 10 Brewers prospects for anything short of a "sure" thing, and nearly all the "sure-things" are already in the playoff hunt. - Nearly all of the names that have popped up for the last 9 months have pretty significant warts on their profiles, be it a defensive ability/flexibility (Burger?), a significant red flag with one metric or another (Suarez?), injury concerns (Moncada?), lack of a big-league record of success (Luis Urias?), significant salary/contract questions or team-specific challenge (Devers/Arenado). - The teams that SHOULD trade guys haven't shown the willingness to do so (Orioles/Rockies). - The current roster/org already has controllable big-league assets and infield prospects (although a few months away from debuting.

Guys are earning their rankings, and pushing for promotion, outside of injury-related performance. Not many guys are struggling. Even a guy like Bitonti (with that tall, angular frame) who is off to a slow start, has a wRC+ of 111. I'll predict that Yoho and Boeve are the biggest fallers. Dinges and Adamczewski the biggest risers.
  6. I dunno. The leap that Misiorowski has taken in recent weeks has been pretty impressive. I'm not sure passivity is the answer for beating The Miz that we saw in the debut. The thing is, is that the Miz we saw in the debut is the same guy that has been dominating AAA so far this year, so I'm not sure why we would expect a big drop-off, in terms of stuff or for that matter, control. I'm sure teams (especially a Counsell-led Cubs offense) will gameplan with the idea of just getting ONE guy on, and then trying to do damage while Les Miz is working out of the stretch. That could mean seeking contact early in the count.
  7. Ortiz has yet to shift out of 3rd gear in the big leagues. Brock Wilken's line in June... .308/.419/.808 for an OPS of 1.227. We're getting closer to prospect promotion time. I'm sure Wilken will get bumped to AAA soon, but will it be a short layover before getting the call? He's not my kind of prospect, but he's certainly played well enough to warrant consideration. I think replacing Monasterio with Wilken would be something to consider. If the Brewers can replace 2 or 3 PAs a game from the left side of our infield with Wilken, it could provide the team with just a little punch. In terms of his development, having a part-time role may not be ideal, but there's something to be said about not having a ton of pressure to perform, either.
  8. I had blended Mike Jones with Mark Rogers in my memory.
  9. Just a little censorship (swearing, trolling, name calling/insults, grammar) often goes a long way in helping civil discourse. This thread is a great example. I hate the idea of censorship, of course, which is why I try to censor myself.
  10. Also this quote from an unnamed executive at the end of the article... “What the general public never factors into their knee-jerk trade reactions is what the teams trading away the large contract can now go do with those dollars,” an NL executive said. “Boston should go trade for someone like [Brewers first baseman] Rhys Hoskins right now. Then the deal takes on a whole new dimension.”
  11. I can't help but feel Alex Cora deserves some heat on all this. Isn't he supposed to be awesome at clubhouse stuff? On a young team, doesn't leadership have to come from the manager? I guess I have always been confused why people think he's awesome. His career in the dugout isn't exactly how "great managers" careers go (with the obvious exception of his first season in 2018 when they were loaded). I always just presumed that he's just so great in the clubhouse that people are willing to ignore his ignominious background.
  12. I appreciate Hogg's contributions. But I quibble with the last line about the Brewers "turning lemons into lemonade". I think if Priester were to continue to perform really well over the next couple of seasons, it would demonstrate that the Brewers don't acquire lemons in the first place, but rather trade in uncut gems.
  13. I think we can all agree that the Brewers fans are just... better?
  14. I think that while it is important for the league to be on top of how they procure a consistently performing baseball, and as such, may recommend changes to the baseball, or the manufacturing of the baseballs, I don't believe that anyone in the league office has put their thumb on the production in such a way to manipulate how the game is played, or enjoyed by fans. Everything that I've read over the years seems to demonstrate that the league wasn't any more educated on ball-flight patterns over time than the public. Or, at least, not any more capable of affecting a change to the ball with foreknowledge of that change's impact on ball-flight, excepting generalities. I'm not sure why people constantly presume conspiratorial malintent with the league office, or for that matter, any administrative oversight by organizations/institutions.
  15. Vaughn's xwOBA is higher in 2025 than in '23 or '24. Surprising.
  16. (I'm dumb. For some reason my mind went straight to the Severino contract --- which is dumb because he doesn't even strike a lot of guys out these days).
  17. Sacramento was willing to pay for Ks. Civale only makes sense on certain teams.
  18. Martinez has to go through Bauers for a roster spot. Vaughn has to go through Hoskins.
  19. Exactly. He needs innings, and GOOD innings. But if he performs, that could mean millions and millions of dollars.
  20. Dude swings fine. It's his "take" that needs a lot of work.
  21. Who knows if he'll improve, which he'll need to do to be a 26-man consideration. But it HAS to feel good to get out of that franchise for the first time, no? He's just got to feel amazing.
  22. I think him getting more than Quintana did (1 year $4M), is hard for me to envision. But his getting $2.5M instead of $800,000 is a real scenario.
