  1. Maybe. It kind of depends on what "untapped power" means. I would say that with his current profile, Brown probably exhibits better "power potential" than Luis Urias did at a similar age. Does 23 HRs represent the same power as Tellez? Not at all, but that's where the positional comparisons are important.
  2. I, too, wondered at first if Brown could be an under-slot guy. But I've come around to think that that won't be the case. I would predict that even if they did save $50-100K from his signing, I'd bet it goes to Misiorowski.
  3. Eric Longenhagen at Fangraphs is apparently "over the moon," for the Brewers first day of the draft... Fangraphs 2022 Day 1 Recap
  4. Does anyone have any insight as to Wisconsin native, Jack Washburn's draft situation? He had a decent junior season for Ole Miss. Perhaps he's planning to return for his senior year? I don't know how much of a prospect he may be. https://olemisssports.com/sports/baseball/roster/jack-washburn/3797
  5. I think the Brewers franchise is one of the most well-run professional sports teams in the United States. Attanasio has continued to invest in the organization in a responsible, long-term outlook. Throughout his time as owner of the Brewers he has earned the admiration of the employees of the organization as well as continued to center the importance of fan experience. I think the only reason Brewers fans would like more from him, is that they would like him to spend more money on free agents.

  7. I think this has been explained elsewhere, so forgive my naivety. Will there ever be an "official" P50 again? A couple of posts up. Wow... sorry!
  8. I think this has been explained elsewhere, so forgive my naivety. Will there ever be an "official" P50 again?
  9. I would imagine that a system like that would only work without the variables of real life (i.e. injuries, double-headers, etc.). It just seems that creatures of habit would really balk at that. I guess I'll just have to be okay with the classic 5-man rotation.
  10. I don't see any scenario where Milwaukee extends him. Boras clients nearly always go to free agency. I don't see him re-signing with the Brewers. With that said, he's 26. I believe that he will perform at this level for a few more years. I guess I would trade him this off-season due to our OF options.
  11. A couple of years ago I was wondering about piggybacking starters in the Big Leagues. I thought it was probably too crazy for someone to actually attempt... I was wrong. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/rockies--pitching-strategy-is-historically-wacky--and-not-working-.html The system Dan O'Dowd is implementing seems to be 4 starters with 3 little piggies. I was thinking six starters taking turns starting/relieving on a 3-day schedule, pairing lefties with righties. My hypothesis was that you could make pitchers with limited repertoires more "effective" by not allowing the starter to go through the order more than a couple of times. There may be other hypothetical benefits as well. I am glad that people are wiling to challenge established "rules of baseball" every once in awhile even if it seems crazy.
  12. Yes. While an .800 OPS wouldn't make him a "superstar," (and would most likely still put him behind Tulo and Reyes), it would still make him one of the top 5 SS in baseball. Do others expect him to stay at SS and hit as I expect? (after a year or two, not right away)
  13. There is currently one SS in the Majors with an OPS above .800. I think if Jean Genie can handle the position, he could end up with multiple all-star appearances by bettering that number. Looking at his minors stats, and considering his age, I don't think that's an unreasonable expectation, but I'm sure some may disagree.
  14. Thanks for the well reasoned and patient response. I guess I am surprised that you think the Brewers could get a good return (you state "Segura or better") by trading Hart and/or Ramirez. Their value is, for all intents and purposes, limited to their 2013 seasons due to their contracts/decline. Do to this, I'm inclined to respectfully disagree on this point. Because I'm not convinced of a good return, I think their values are stronger as our middle-of-the-order representation for next year (and I think sometimes the value of one good season of baseball is undervalued. Sure we won't get a prospect return when Hart hits free agency, but we'll have him for his 31-year old season). I agree that ONE reason for the Cardinals' sustained success is due to organizational depth, but I would argue that a far more important reason for their success is their having premier players (Carpenter, Wainwright, Pujols, Holliday, Molina(?)) surrounded by their "depth". Returning to the thread topic, I see lots of Craigs and Carpenters and not enough Beltrans or Freeses in our system. I see Westbrooks and Lohses, but not any Wainwrights, Lynns, or Mottes. Hopefully I am way off, and guys like Khrush and The Mayor will be true middle-of-the-order threats.
  15. I would be concerned about having a decent LF arm in right and a poor LF arm in left in this scenario. But I could be persuaded to believe that Braun is a better defensive outfielder than I give him credit for. In response to The Crew and TLB, I think the fear that I have about divesting the team of it's MLB assets and relying on it's MiLB assets is that this generation of youngsters, while decidedly easy to root for, are lacking in bona fide MLB All-Star talent, i.e. talent that is able to compete for postseason success. I have very little doubt that our system has a number of starting caliber players. I do doubt, however, that any of these minor leaguers would be GOOD starters on a GOOD team. To be fair, this doesn't mean that continuing to re-up declining all-stars like Hart is the way to the future, but I think that the lack of faith in THIS group of youngsters could explain the hesitation that people, like myself, have with simply going young.
  16. You've gotta love that Roberto Hernandez Heredia chose "Fausto" as his alias. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faust
  17. Is it too crazy to think that maybe pairing Kottaras with a lefty (who can presumably do a good job of holding runners) lessens that liability of Kottaras' arm?
  18. Thanks for your posts, guys. I lost my father-in-law to cancer during that Cardinals playoff series. I wish you the best.
  19. Tuesday, August 13th 1991 This is the boxscore. See if you can figure out why I will never forget it. I was a 14-year old baseball fanatic at my first game at County Stadium. I was from NW Wisconsin, so it was a special trip just to go and meant the world to me. It probably solidified my diehard fandom forever.
  20. Hanson was dominant last night. Dominant. If I were Hanson, with that kind of ability, I would want to prove to the world (and to myself based on head-to-head stats), that I can beat Ryan Braun. In no way, would I EVER intentionally put Braun on base. And after I put him on base, I would be so upset about it, that I would try to pick him off -- especially due to Braun's SB% this season. I darn sure would not let Braun steal second.
  21. Personally, I would love to see a "tandem" situation with Suppan and either of the long relief lefties. I especially would like it if Attanasio/Melvin/Macha went public with the idea simply to see how opposing managers would set up their lineups. Admittedly, I have also been interested in "tandeming" (I love gerunds) at the major league level due to pitchers with limited repertoires.
  22. While guys like Braun and Fielder are impact bats as soon as they're drafted, other players develop into impact bats. At one time the Brewerfan editors had Gamel as the #48 guy on the Power 50. I think that by the end of the season, we will be pretty excited about all of the bats we have in the system. But I tend to be an optimist.
  23. Simply out of bitterness and frustration with losing out on compensation, I could see Attanasio and DM signing a guy beyond slot value... [or is it just my own bitterness and frustration?]
  24. Dontrelle Willis anyone? I don't think that if I were DM I'd have the guts to go with that kind of flier, but you could catch lightning-in-a-bottle and give yourself a chance to resign him after 2010. Clearly, the Brewers would need to not have to pay the entire $10 mil/year. I dunno, the thought just seemed intriguing.
  25. Will Josh Butler return to the next Power 50, and how high? Does he not profile as a pretty legitimate prospect? I just have to think that someone that is still pretty young and having success at the upper levels of minor league baseball with projectable "stuff"(albeit with a lack of lights-out MILB stats, including some control issues), is a very good thing. At the time we acquired him, our resident experts debuted him at number 14 on the Power 50 based heavily on Baseball America reports. I have to think that its fair to be excited about him. I'm not saying he projects as an ace or anything... I'm just saying that he could factor as a legitimate #4 in a decent teams rotation.
