  1. I would be pretty surprised if a team picked Valerio in the Rule 5 draft. Limited defensively, up and down season with the bat. Not a burner. It would be tricky for an MLB team to carry such a player the whole season unless he hits and hits and hits.
  2. Ahead of Druw Jones and Jackson Holliday. That makes sense. We saw reports from multiple scouting insiders saying he would have been the first pick. In addition, he's already playing well in A+. Those two 18 year olds are in Rookie ball.
  3. In that interview with Sweet, I thought the most compelling thing he said was that they "know he can play CF". As in, he kind of emphasized that opinion. Made me wonder if they are loosely planning on him taking over the Jace role.
  4. I really like Urias in his role. With this said, it's hard for me to not be a little disappointed that he hasn't been more with the stick. I agree that his future is that of other decent "everyday" utility players from around the league. For that reason, the FO will keep him around so long as he's reasonably affordable.

  6. That makes for a potentially boring off-season, but I believe it is in the best interests of the team in 2023, and in the long-term.
  7. I think there is a serious dearth of "needle-moving" bats in MLB right now. In the hypothetical that we trade one of our aces for a big bat, I fear we would end up being very disappointed with the results. It doesn't feel like it right now, in this post-Hader malaise, but I actually think the FO's strategy to rely on pitching and good depth across the roster (to try and prevent "black holes" in the lineup) is a really good strategy for the small market Brewers. On paper, this team should be better record-wise. Their dominant pitching has suffered through above-average performance, and injury, and the defense has been the same. I would not be surprised if the Brewers go back to that strategic well one more time in 2023 before trading their aces. At that point, the Brewers will have a much better sense of what they have in Frelick, Wiemer, Chourio, Gasser, et. al, so that they will know what positions they will need to trade for in offseason 2023.
  8. I don't think Frelick will come up this year, unless the bottom really drops out and the Brewers aren't in the playoff chase. Davis provides elite defense and speed on the bases (probably better than Frelick in both instances -- although that pickoff the other day left me unimpressed). Frelick's bat is no guarantee to be better than Davis's this fall either. Bottom line, I see no benefit to "rushing" Frelick. And that has nothing to do with his clock. I've loved Frelick since they drafted him, and think he'll be manning CF perhaps as early as next spring.
  9. In another thread, someone pointed out Ruiz's low exit velocities. And in the recent minor league report Zarr mentioned his bunting acumen. This begs the question... Are bunts factored into exit velocity averages?
  10. I agree. Healthiest farm I can remember. Deeper than I can remember. Could use a breakout pitcher, and a slugger somewhere, but just solid top to bottom.
  11. It seems like something Stearns would do. Has never played CF in MLB. Can Renfroe play CF?
  12. 7th, according to fWAR. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=lf&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2022&month=0&season1=2022&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2022-01-01&enddate=2022-12-31&sort=22,d
  13. I think Yelich's contract is tradeable. The Brewers would certainly need to take on some of the salary in some fashion, but they could shorten the financial commitment timeframe and lessen the annual commitment if they traded prospects with Yelich.
  14. In addition, there are a lot of teams, even super-wealthy teams, that don't think paying a closer $15M is a good use of resources. I think the money in this trade was a really important piece to this trade.
  15. I haven't watched these guys (Feliciano/Reetz/Jackson) enough to know. I can't remember now where I saw it, but I did see a scout's opinion on Feliciano's defense. The scout said that he was "unplayable" defensively. Now that was a while ago, so I'm sure his defense continues to improve. I just think for a "run-prevention" team, you need good catching, so my instinct says that Severino will be back with the big club next season with Caratini.
  16. This team really really needs a win or two.
  17. Hmmm... It definitely doesn't look good, and I don't want this post to be interpreted as some kind of blind support of the organization, but I wonder if this was mostly due to the timing of the trade deadline/40 man roster shuffle. The post suggests that the org is still paying for the procedure/rehab. ("... outsourced to the facility of my choosing,..") As far as the labor-issues side of things, it is not surprising that someone that has a history of trying to win public support for the plight of his labor group would use this as an opportunity to throw shade at MLB and the MLBPA. Again, I'm not sure I don't agree with him with his concerns, but I'm not sure this is as dastardly as meets the eye, either.
  18. Yeah. I know that the Brewers haven't been that involved in the International scene for very long, but I can't remember the last time that they had this many players that were performing so well in the DSL. And many of them aren't 20-year-old DSL retreads, either. Long gone are the days of dreaming on our singular, Hernan "The Hurricane" Iribarren. Currently, they probably have 10 guys that are better prospects than he was.
  19. I'm not sure it means anything or not, but Hiura's BB% the last couple of seasons certainly suggest that he's at least trying to be more patient... The problem is that he's getting into deeper counts, putting him in harms way of the K. I find it interesting that while the rest-of-season predictions have him still striking out at an alarming rate, they also have him being a league-average hitter. It's really too bad that Keston just can't throw a lick. It really puts tremendous pressure on him to hit like an all-star.
  20. Davis does look like an all-world defender in CF, who happens to have had a terrific year hitting in Nashville, and is hitting well in Milwaukee (albeit w/o any power). I'm as excited about Ruiz as everyone, but I don't think we should be in such a rush to send Davis down.
  21. I wonder if the Brewers did everything they could to make sure the Padres would get Soto so that the Cardinals wouldn't.
  22. DJ, thank you for your service! Can you explain what "release waivers" means?
  23. How crazy would it be if internally, the Front Office actually believed Rogers was an upgrade? That isn't possible, right?
  24. I suppose there's a place for the timing of the trade. As it was the first trade, the Front Office wasn't sure what the end of the deadline would look like, so they took Lamet. Then, when making other trades, they knew that Lamet would end up being a casualty after the trades.
