  1. Yeah, I was at that one - the ball rolled to the wall and the outfielder put his arms up like it was caught in the wall... Then I think he tried to play it, negating any chance of him getting a ground rule double call. I remember being in a spot where I couldn't see down the right field line and at the time, they didn't do replays on close plays, so we never got to see what actually happened until after the game.
  2. Watch, the Brewers offense scores 5 runs a game until the end of the year.
  3. How the heck did we sweep the Dodgers a month ago and beat Kershaw?
  4. This doesn't surprise me. Brenneman has always seemed to have something against the Crew. It seems like most of the rest of the divisional broadcast teams take plenty of open shots at Milwaukee without even needing an excuse. If anything the Cubs broadcasters might be the least objectionable of them all. We're pretty lucky to have BA and Rock. Even when they're saying something negative, they're not boneheads about it. The Cubs guys aren't bad at all. Pirates guys are the worst minus the Marlins and Arizona. The Reds come after that and then everyone else is good enough where you don't really notice them. BA and Rock are professional, but not boring. If BA's main criticism is that he can't judge fly balls, then I think he's probably one of the better announcers out there. Rock can get a little too homerish, but hey, the color guy is supposed to be the homerish one.
  5. A pickoff, a throwout at home, and a home run that carried out by 2 feet. Seems like it.
  6. The Reds announcers ripping into the Brewers as if their team wasn't an even bigger disappointment from start to finish.
  7. If you told me we would be here 10 years ago with all the promising talent we had I would be very disappointed to put it mildly. Expecting more than an NLCS appearance following the 2005 season after going 20 years without a playoff appearance just seems baffling to me. I guess it just makes my point that nobody is going to be happy ever.
  8. Yup, those 5 hardcore fans that stop buying tee shirts because they love the team so much are certainly going to turn around the franchise.
  9. "Sad" is relative - the bottom line is nobody is ever going to be happy. Packer fans whine about squandering their opportunity at another Super Bowl and the window is shrinking despite winning the division 3 straight years with a 15 win season in 2011. Expectations are always one notch above what's attained. In 6 years we will be hearing how the Bucks couldn't capitalize with Jabari and Anteteokounmpo in their prime (after a conference finals loss). The Brewers are night and day better than what they were in the 90s and we're suddenly at the same level with the need to blow the team up and rebuild for 5-10 years. When Attanasio took over the team, the Brewers went 13 years without being above .500 and had a 23 year playoff drought. Rewind to 2006 and ask if fans would be happy if the Brewers had 2 postseason appearances with an NLDS and 5 winning seasons in the next 10 years and I'm sure many would be ecstatic. Then ask Cubs fans in 2006 how happy they'd be in 10 years if the team had accumulated 0 postseason wins and 3 or 4 90+ loss seasons... Or the Twins, 0 postseason wins and 4 consecutive 90 loss seasons. Funny how perspectives change. Cubs fans are happy and optimistic while Brewer fans are depressed and writing off the future to the Cubs already. Not saying anyone should envy the Brewers, but we shouldn't forget how awful going 20 years without competitive baseball was.
  10. We were stuck listening to the Pirate announcers - who suck btw - and they cried like crazy because cutch got hit, like he's the only player in the history of baseball to get hit by a pitch. There is no way in hell Garza was trying to hit cutch the second time because if he did he'd get tossed and he was pitching a gem. Them and the marlins guys should hang out.
  11. Davis, Weeks, Reynolds, Segura, and Gallardo all in a row. That'll jump start the offense. Admittedly it's like shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic, but how the hell is Reynolds starting when he's batting UNDER 200 and defensively practicality threw away the rest of the season last night. So he's rewarded with a start???
  12. Broxton came on and got a ground ball to end the inning on the next pitch. He's been our best reliever, so its not like he brought in Kintzler. I wouldnt have had a problem either way, but I probably would lean to keeping him in one more batter. Easier in hindsight... Result was even good this time. Reminds me of that 49er Packer game last year when McCarthy accepted a penalty on what would have been 4th and short. The Packers stopped Kaepernick, but Matthews had a late hit out of bounds and some fans blamed McCarthy for the decision, despite it actually working out sans a boneheaded play. In this case, if Reynolds throws to 2nd, it could have easily been thought of a good move since Broxton got a ground ball out an RRR didn't adhere to his "100 pitch rule" that everyone quips about.
  13. Where to begin? You don't think Brewer fans would go crazy if the Cardinals had a promotion for Molina that said don't vote for Lucroy? Even if it was humorous like the Brewers ad, you gotta be kidding me Brewers fans would go nuts. You also don't see Cardinals fans, in general, getting on Braun. There were no steroid, cheater, whatever chants this past series. There, I'm done defending Cardinals fans now. By the way, you do realize feminists and the NRA is a mixed meta... nevermind I'm not going there. If the Cardinals came out with a fake cheesy attack ad, I think the Brewers marketing people would come back with a fake cheesy attack ad. The St Louis Post Dispatch treated it like a scandal and interviewed Lucroy asking if he approved it! Matheny even responded to it saying he saw it and was surprised by it! All in all, I admitted I was overgeneralizing and I hated when fans cared more about the destruction of a rival franchise vs cheering on their own. We vent enough about the Brewers, so taking it out on another team is probably good for mental health.
  14. I seriously don't know of another franchise with that many fans that would get so bent out of over something like the Lucroy All Star vote thing. If the Cardinals did an ad like that, I would think it was hilarious. But I guess the whole organization from the team, to their marketing, to their fans has one giant stick up their butt and gets more easily offended than a feminist at an NRA rally. I hate to overgeneralize Cardinals fans as having an inferiority complex and being way too sensitive about what other fans think... Wait, no, I love overgeneralizing about how Cardinals fans get bent out shape because they legitimately get bent out of shape about that too. Hope some prying eye Cardinals fan is reading this, formulating a jealousy retort and some explanation about how Braun is a cheater while at the same time trying to ignore the McGuire statue on the front lawn and the massive Peralta contract that the team just signed. That being said, I would hate to turn into Bears fans and ignore my team and focus on every game that your rival plays. Having "Packers suck go Bears" yelled out the window to me after the Packers lost to the Seahawks is something I certainly don't want Brewer fans to replicate. (PS, the Bears lost at home to Buffalo a couple days later).
  15. Well said. I'm not one to blame individuals, but I've had these 2 prevailing thoughts for a while and tonight swirls 'em both together quite grandly: 1. Mark Reynolds should just clean out his locker now. 2. I think Johnny Narron needs to go. I just don't see any of our hitters really improving under him. A team slump is one thing, and the Brewers hitters certainly have their flaws, but the offense has been lousy for much of the 2nd half and only seems to be getting worse. A team slump is one thing, but since early July, why are many of our hitters' ABs getting progressively worse as the year moves on, and where are the adjustments? Why have veterans like Reynolds & Weeks gotten worse and worse as the season's worn on (okay, they just aren't MLB hitters anymore)? Clutch hitting is terrible. Where are the focus, in-AB adjustments like shortened-up swings w/ 2 strikes, subtle adjustments in approach overall? Why can't most of our hitters -- Gomez most glaringly -- get a bunt down? . . . Etc..... Gennett & Davis are exactly what they were in the minors. Braun, Lucroy, Ramirez, & Gomez were pretty much already were what they are before Narron's arrival. Who's gotten better? Short list if any names at all. Who's gotten worse? Long list... The issues go beyond Narron, surely (Braun's thumb only begins the list... and no, I don't think replacing Roenicke is a needed solution), but the deterioration of quite a capable offense is, to me, the most glaring issue and, on that count, IMO a change is needed. I think this is a great point. Disagree on Scooter, whom has hit for significantly more power and has been statistically better in the majors than in the minors. Having so many dropoffs from last year is concerning. The only jump up is Lucroy having a great year and ARam being slightly better. Segura going from .752 ops to .596? Davis from .949 to .746? Even Schafer managed to regress. Surprisingly we a statically better than last year - were in the top half in runs per game, and last year we were in the bottom half. The entire league has had a dropoff. But it feels significantly worse because the second half has been extremely brutal. I don't think firing Roenicke will do anything, but if they do, I hope we don't replace him with the opposite Gibson-type manager, because I don't think that's the answer either. Funny that fans would have absolutely LOST it had they traded Nelson away for Price and a couple months later Melvin should get fired for not making a deal. In June everyone was ready to take Roenicke's head off for not starting Nelson instead of Estrada, and now he's turned into a guy that is disappointing when he comes in as a long reliever.
  16. That was actually kind of close. Him and Johnny Estrada would make for an an epic sausage race.
  17. Hey, we didn't strand anyone in scoring position! Baby steps.
  18. If by 'great', you actually mean like watching two drunken hobos trying to hit an imaginary piñata, then yes, I agree.
