  1. And at no point did anyone say that this was an incredibly aggressive game with elbows being thrown and the like. This is all speculation. If I may point you folks in the direction of this fine article. They did look into it. They did an x-ray initially but didn't find anything. When it still hadn't healed two weeks later, they went back and looked at it with an MRI and found the fracture. Nobody hid anything. And Roenicke is not the one making any sort of calls on the health of players; the organization has medical and training staff who take care of that. I'll save you the wait and tell you right now that my opinion of the matter won't change one bit. It would also be the same if this had been a season-ending injury. And if we end up missing the playoffs by 1-2 games, there will be any number of reasons that could have contributed to it (other injuries, losing streaks, underperforming offense, underperforming defense, crappy bullpen, poor team chemistry, blah, blah, blah...) To focus on this one thing as the single source of this season's failure would be utterly inane and pretty far beneath the intellect of this forum.
  2. Everything he does outside of baseball has the potential to threaten his ability to pitch. Heck, getting into a car is probably one of the most dangerous things that he could do, yet no one is chastising him for doing that multiple times a day. The risk of serious injury from playing pick-up basketball with friends is so low that it's really not worth even considering, hence the fact that it's not prohibited by his contract. But the fact that he did get injured (and an incredibly minor one, at that) suddenly everyone becomes an armchair actuary and acts like it was an incredibly dangerous and high-risk activity to have even considered engaging in in the first place. He's a professional athlete in better physical shape than any of us probably ever will be, I think the fact that he isn't allowed to shoot some hoops with friends in his driveway without everyone wringing their hands over it is pretty ridiculous.
  3. It's just a cracked rib. All it does is hurt like hell. It'll heal on its own in a month or so and will have had zero effect on his ability to pitch.
  4. We've missed your cheery disposition around here lately. And you're wrong. The Brewers should have to pay someone to sit on the bench because of a non-baseball related injury, because there's a contract and Grienke did not violate said contract when he injured himself. Much of the reason contracts exist is to prevent what you're advocating. Can't cherry-pick after the fact.
  5. Somebody sure loves specular highlights. My goodness.
  6. They use your IP address, not your zip code.
  7. I always found it refreshing that in spite of his obvious athletic talents, he still made the effort to excel academically as well; if only all professional athletes were that well-rounded.
  8. "...who in 12 years, has never hit a home run in the majors." Disregarding the fact that in those 12 years, he had a whopping 159 AB. And wasn't even in the majors 9 of those years. But hey, I'm just being nitpicky.
  9. So, she's bumming around in her pajamas yet apparently felt the need to put on makeup? I don't understand women at all.
  10. Locking the thread indefinitely, as nothing fruitful is coming from the current discussion.
  11. In a word, no.

  13. Should've told them that animal neglect is everybody's business.
  14. What is it about when these two teams play against each other? Good lord.
  15. Is the shark tank not there, or am I just not seeing it?
  16. Why the hell anyone would choose not to pitch to Aaron Rowand (.237/.277/.397) is beyond me.
  17. If you're really desperate to not pay for parking, it's usually possible to find a couple spots on the street down by Purina (e.g., Chouteau, Lebanon) which is only about a half mile south of the stadium. And there are a handful of bars with outdoor patios on the way to the park, which is about as close to tailgating as anyone seems to get down here. And for what it's worth, 40/64 is the one that grazes the stadium. 55 veers south just before reaching it.
  18. It's not extortion and you sound more and more ridiculous each time you call it that. How is that the fault of people who obey the speed limit? There wouldn't be any variance if everyone drove at the posted speed. Here's a nifty way you can stick it to the man: drive at the speed limit and they won't be able to take your money.
  19. I honestly don't get where people are getting the sense of entitlement that says they should be their own judges of how fast they're allowed to drive. State governments provide drivers liscenses with the stipulation that traffic laws are obeyed. If for some reason they decide that the speed limit on the highway should be 35, then that's the way things are. It's all pretty cut and dry. Driving is not a right.
  20. Normally, yes. But if a sample size of one start is apparently enough proof for some people that Melvin was a fool for cutting Suppan, then a sample size of two starts should be equally (if not doubly so) capable of getting an opposing point across. When in Rome...
  21. Since 2005, Suppan's ERA, WHIP, H/9, and K/9 has gotten worse each year. His first two starts this year showed no indication that anything about that trend was going to change, and he was mercifully removed from the rotation. A lot of words can describe Melvin's (mis)handling of the Suppan situation, but 'panic' is most assuredly not one of them.
  22. Well then, that makes it all okay. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that our plebeian traffic laws have caused you. Please feel free to continue ignoring them.
