    Didn't think it would be Patrick left off the roster, but it does make sense. The walk rate is too high for the playoffs, and the potential blow-up too risky. Left hoping for 2025 Playoff Patrick without the 2026 numbers to support it.

    The tentative plan at one point felt like working Quero in this year, dealing Contreras this offseason and having a catcher of the future with Dinges coming right behind him. Plans change. There's no way the catcher position can be trusted to anyone other than Contreras for 2027. Naylor is probably penciled in as the backup, with Matthew Wood added to the 40 and starting in AAA. Would not be surprised if Quero winds up elsewhere. Megill is on the same expiring contract, but I can't see an offer for a 33 year old that would beat having the closer's spot locked down for 2027. I'd expect offseason trades to look more like the Durbin deal to reprioritize and retool than the more common final year of contract prospect pickup.

    19th payroll in 30th market is pretty decent investment. A bunch that didn't turn out to be particularly efficient (Woodruff, Rengifo, McCullers/May contracts) but continued to make moves. And most importantly, the long-term commits with Chourio, Pratt, Lara. Let's not forget the Murphy hire, which most found "uninspiring" and "lazy" in the below fun re-read, and understanding the importance of retaining Chris Hook and making him one of the top paid assistants.
