  1. So Baseball America ranked Santana #71 overall coming into the season, but has rewarded his .320/.426/.582/1.008 batting line as a 22-year-old in AAA (and his respectable .771 OPS in 42 PA in MLB) by bumping him out of the top-100, out of the "near top-100," and half-way down the "organizational top-10" list? Cool, thanks guys. We get it, he strikes out a lot. If he didn't he would be a top-10 prospect in baseball. The strikeouts don't seem to affect the praise heaped on Cubs prospects...
  2. I think Brett Phillips is a better prospect than Orlando Arcia, most others probably disagree. Also think Domingo Santana is being severely underrated on the national stage. He's not going to translate his .426 OBP in AAA to the major leagues due to the swing-and-miss issues, but he has a cannon arm and huge offensive potential. Seems like a young/cheap Cespedes to me. My new top-5 would be: 1) Phillips 2) Medeiros 3) Arcia 4) Santana 5) Clark
  3. Collymore put up an .883 OPS last season as a 19-year-old in Rookie ball, as a full-time 2B. I take it the Cardinals didn't like his defense and converted him to OF, but I wonder if there's any chance we move him back (not like we need another OF prospect at this point)
  4. [sarcasm]I'm hearing that it's Alex Reyes[/sarcasm]
  5. It's a much better package coming to Milwaukee than Wheeler/Flores, in my opinion, but the inclusion of Fiers complicates things. Wish we could have gotten them to throw in another upside piece, but considering it seemed like we might not trade Gomez at all (and considering how average he has been this season, his value might be gone by the offseason), I'm quite happy. It's a good trade, not a coup, but a good trade.
  6. RHP Zach Davies and 3B Jomar Reyes or C Chance Sisco
  7. This is so much better than the Mets trade, bless you cold-footed Wilpons!!! Outfielders are not as big of an area of "need" as a SP for us, but Phillips and Santana are both studs, and we are getting 12 years of team control. Plus Hader who is a legit SP prospect, and Houser who seems like a flier the Brewers like, and it's a better trade. Adding Fiers is tough, but he's 30 years old, and we're rebuilding... This allows them to unload Khris Davis at some point too. Santana is a monster: 6'5", 22-years-old in AAA, 326 PA, 16 HR, .320/.426/.582/1.008
  8. Can teams file grievances against each other? Not enough evidence for an actual lawsuit, but leaking that Gomez has a hip issue if that isn't actually true is pretty awful and deserves sanctions.
  9. Hard to be a Brewers fan sometimes. Looking increasingly likely that we are going to end up with bupkis from this "rebuilding" trade deadline. Maybe Parra will bring back some underwhelming arm like Barrios, but nothing worth getting excited about. Lind is vastly superior to Moss, and I would have been thrilled with Kaminsky. I hated the Gomez return but now it seems utopian. Instead we're going to end up with nothing, aren't we...
  10. It's worth remembering that tonight all started out with reports that the Mets were close to trading for a "mystery bat" - I'm guessing the leak came from them, not Milwaukee.
  11. Cardinals just lost Holliday so they could use him even more. Would love to get Alex Reyes OR Piscotty (if the Brewers think he can play 3B) and some of the Cardinals second-tier pitching prospects.
  12. It would be funny if we rejected the Mets deal because of Wheeler's elbow, and end up trading Gomez to Cleveland for a package including Brady Aiken.
  13. Understandable, since if Wheeler has issues (or even just misses another 6 months to a year), then it really tanks the value of the trade. Hoping this episode doesn't undercut Melvin's bargaining position.
  14. At best it was pending physicals, the deal was not official and the Brewers did not tell the media to leak it early. I think they are fully within their rights to pull the deal back if another team heard about the deal and gave a better offer. (I doubt that's what happened, but I don't have any problem with it if it did)
  15. Seems strange that they would be able to review a complex medical record that quickly though.
  16. lol: Martin Maldonado ‏@Machete1224 24s25 seconds ago Gómez still a Brewers nice, good friend and teammate @88_gparra @WilyPeralta38 @C_Gomez27
  17. Melvin demanded Wheeler and the Mets said no, so Melvin just leaked it to the media as happening. #Hardball
  18. Both Flores and Wheeler are virtually guaranteed to win MVP/Cy Young awards at some point now.
  19. I'm fine with that, except now trade negotiations are permanently tainted because Doug tipped his hand about what he's willing to accept.
  20. Just when I was starting to like the trade. Now we are probably not even going to trade Gomez, or trade him for an even lesser return (if you're Melvin how do you ask for more than Wheeler/Flores type return at this point?)
  21. Uhh....? Andy Martino ‏@MartinoNYDN 25s25 seconds ago Dramatic twist: sandy says trade will not happen. We will endeavor to figure out why.
  22. The other thing pulling me off the ledge is the fact that Carlos Gomez hasn't been all the great this season, let's be honest. If he were having another MVP campaign, might be a different story.
  23. I'm downgrading this away from "worst trade in franchise history" ( ) but mainly because of Wilmer Flores, who I am starting to like. He was getting Miguel Cabrera comps back when he was a huge international signing as a 16-year-old, and his minor league stats are impressive. If the Brewers just let him play 3B rather than shove him into 2B/SS, maybe he could blossom by escaping the Mets' garbage player development (see: Carlos Gomez). Wheeler is good too, though I don't see an ace there. Really all that's killing me is that both these guys have two years of team control burnt... Could really use those extra two years when we're talking about high-upside gambles.
