  1. If Gatewood is a signability concern, it might make sense to be extra conservative and get somebody under-slot at 50.
  2. This was exactly what the Brewers farm system needed. Two picks with huge upside.
  3. Greg Vaughn went rogue, vetoed Seid's pick.
  4. Adams too. Really hope they go for one of them.
  5. At what point does Gatewood become unsignable this year? Maybe he was asking for way too much $$$.
  6. Brewers didn't pick Medeiros because they were trying to save money for #41, at least not that we know of. Whatever happens with the next two picks is irrelevant. To them it may have been Kodi was top 10-15 on their board. He was ranked around 25-30th end of 1st rd in rankings. I'm going to guess there was a talk about what he'd sign for and it had to be below the #12 slot value. There's no way with who was available the Brewers selected Kodi to sign at 2.8mil. Like I said in his ranking area that projects at 1.8mil. How could Milw not go to Kodi say hey we like you would like 2mil to go 12th to us or take your chances with the rest of the teams in the draft? 2mil tied to having to go 21st. This when he's considered 25-30 in rankings. The Brewers will sign him below slot. Trust me. Rankings are irrelevant. Teams negotiate under-slot deals because they work out a deal with players before picking them way above where they would otherwise go. Medeiros was talking to Arizona at #16, Kansas City at #17, and Cleveland at #21. Maybe he will sign a little underslot in the end, I don't know, but there's no reason to think that there is a deal in place or that he's going to take an insulting offer (especially as a high school player).
  7. Will the Brewers go for a bat next? Some nice players left with fifteen to go. Gatewood, Harrison, Chavis, Blandino... They might all go soon though.
  8. Brewers didn't pick Medeiros because they were trying to save money for #41, at least not that we know of. Whatever happens with the next two picks is irrelevant.
  9. Good thing we drafted Taylor Jungmann (BA #8) in 2011 rather than "reaching" for Jose Fernandez (BA #20). I'd say a high school kid who can hit 97 and has one of the best breaking pitches in the draft is an OK pick at 12...
  10. The PerfectGame staff, at least, seem pretty high on Medeiros. I think the fact that this was a surprising pick is more a result of the deep high school pitching class this year, not that the Brewers made a huge reach because they wanted to save money. If the Brewers were set on picking a high-upside high school pitcher, there isn't a dramatic difference between Toussaint, Holmes, Medeiros, Reid-Foley, etc. Brewers scouts just happen like Medeiros the best.
  11. Congratulations to prediction winner princeofpop! With a winning score of 5/12, including an impressive four-pick run in the mid-top-10.
  12. Have most people even seen this guy? Can't imagine there is a heaving scouting presence for a high school player from Hawaii. It's very possible that the Brewers just have a much better read on this guy than online consensus rankings.
  13. Brewers fans: Brewers are idiots for taking Jungmann/Bradley, who were highest ranked players based on industry consensus. Brewers fans: Brewer are idiots for taking a pitcher they think is much better than industry consensus rankings.
  14. I really like Medeiros, but maybe I'm the only one. Extremely unique player, high upside, seemed like a good kid (according to the 10 second interview of him I saw).
  15. About to be some unhappy Brewers fans if you go by consensus rankings alone...
  16. Rumor that they're going with Medeiros. Interesting!
  17. Hoffman can't command top 12 money. You gotta realize he's out for a year+. So he returns just in time for next year's draft without having anything to show for drafters. And he'll be a senior so he doesn't have any kind of argument for money offered. He could go 1-1 and only get offered 1mil. What's he going to do say no? He's out of professional baseball if he does. Conforto! Toussaint or Holmes will be the Brewers Pick! at least one of them All he would have to do is show scouts he is healthy and his velocity/stuff are fine, and then they would be getting a healthy Hoffman ready to play immediately. He's still going to ask for a ton as a top-10 pick, IMO.
  18. Touki! Touki! Come to Milwaukee. (Still think Toronto are going for an easy sign here)
  19. I'm guessing Toronto reaches for somebody at #11, because Hoffman might want #1-1 money, and because that pick is not protected. So if Conforto goes #10, then we should have the rest of the best available players on the board at #12.
  20. Sounds like Colorado going Freeland.
  21. IMO, Hoffman would be awesome if Toronto doesn't sign him. If Alex Jackson goes to Seattle at #6, seems like it wouldn't be that unexpected for any of the remaining players to be there at 12.
