  1. I would do Weeks for Dunn straight-up. A Reynolds/Dunn platoon would be pretty hilarious to watch. The money matches and the White Sox have a logjam at DH, but not sure they need or would want Weeks now that Beckham is back from the DL.
  2. Even great bullpens need a guy at the back of the bullpen to eat innings even if he's hemorrhaging runs. Here's a list of the most valuable bullpens since 2000, and mediocre RP who served a mop-role in >30 IP: (1) Minnesota Twins 2006 (498.0 IP, 3.26 FIP, 9.0 fWAR) featuring: Willie Eyre, 59.1 IP, 5.31 ERA, 5.44 FIP, -0.3 fWAR (2) Cleveland Indians 2001 (569.0 IP, 3.51 FIP, 8.7 fWAR) featuring: Justine Speir, 20.2 IP, 6.97 ERA, 6.34 FIP, -0.3 fWAR featuring: Roy Smith, 16.1 IP, 6.06 ERA, 6.11 FIP, -0.2 fWAR (3) Texas Rangers 2004 (538.2 IP, 3.93 FIP, 8.5 fWAR) featuring: Jeff Nelson, 23.2 IP, 5.32 ERA, 5.25 FIP, 0.0 fWAR featuring: John Wasdin, 12.1 IP, 7.30 ERA, 6.45 FIP, -0.2 fWAR (4) Los Angeles Angels 2004 (490.1 IP, 3.38 FIP, 8.3 fWAR) (K-Rod Powered!) featuring: Ben Weber, 22.1 IP, 8.06 ERA, 6.41 FIP, -0.5 fWAR featuring: Aaron Sale, 10.1 IP, 5.23 ERA, 5.66 FIP, -0.1 fWAR (5) Oakland Athletics 2009 (559.1 IP, 3.35 FIP, 8.3 fWAR) featuring: Santiago Casilla, 48.1 IP, 5.96 ERA, 5.00 FIP, -0.2 fWAR featuring: Dan Giese, 16.1 IP, 5.51 ERA, 6.95 FIP, -0.4 fWAR
  3. Ok, tell me about all the other levels of minor league baseball he played before he ended up rehabbing in Rookie ball. professional baseball in Taiwan. he didnt even get a chance to pitch in the minors before having tommy johns I don't think he ever played professional baseball in Taiwain, did he? He played in some juniors tournaments but the Pirates signed him at 19.
  4. I don't really care about Wang's development if the alternative is him developing into a useful pitcher for the Pirates. Maybe that's harsh but baseball is a business and it's not like the Brewers are exploiting him by letting him accrue service time and see major league baseball as opposed to slaving away in the minors for peanuts. He's going to get more innings, the Brewers are just on a .750 W% kick right now, so the mop-up guy is going to look underused. Every bullpen needs a guy to fill innings in reverse-save situations where you just need somebody to eat innings. We haven't had very many of those yet.
  5. Cue the same people saying Braun should be banned from the game talking about how Pineda is such a gritty player just trying to get the 'W' for his team. (And of course, doctoring the ball actually has a clear impact on the game, unlike PEDs. [sarcasm]Eagerly awaiting Pineda's 50-game suspension.[/sarcasm]) I think most people are just calling Pineda an idiot. What a surprise. Grand Inquisitor Buster Olney has a piece basically glorifying the use of pine tar and saying the rules need to be changed. The levels of hypocrisy are incredible. Pine tar and PEDs are not the same thing. Pine tar actually has a dramatic effect on the game and gives the user a proven advantage, unlike PEDs.
  6. Don't forget Darrell Porter. Traded by Milwaukee and in 1979 went on to have one of the best seasons by a catcher of all time.
  7. Cue the same people saying Braun should be banned from the game talking about how Pineda is such a gritty player just trying to get the 'W' for his team. (And of course, doctoring the ball actually has a clear impact on the game, unlike PEDs. [sarcasm]Eagerly awaiting Pineda's 50-game suspension.[/sarcasm])
  8. Jake Peavy, Gaylord Perry, and two guys whose last names end in 'S'
  9. Juan Francisco is a DH with a mediocre bat. He put up -0.9 fWAR last season, I'm not going to miss him. That said, Overbay is likely even worse. Considering the Brewers look like a contending team, Melvin needs to trade for a legitimate 1B (or bite the bullet and sign Morales) ASAP. Overbay should not be on the roster, and while Reynolds's power has been nice you can't have a 1B hitting below .200 -- he should be a nice power bat off the bench but nothing more.
  10. Should have won that one, but can't sweep every series. I'll settle for going undefeated the rest of the homestand.
  11. I can blame Roenicke. You give away an out by having Figaro hit and then leave him in to give up the game-winning HR? I think Melvin is responsible for keeping Wang on the roster, but Roenicke doesn't like him so he's protesting by never using him.
  12. Damn, needed Scooter on second to activate A-Ram's RISP super powers.
  13. [sarcasm]Steal a couple bases to set up the squeeze.[/sarcasm]
  14. Horrendous umpiring behind home plate (Brewers have been benefiting too, but still)
  15. Not making things easier for Rickie that the only time we see him now is in a situation like bottom of the ninth vs. Dale Thayer. Hard to break out of a slump that way.
  16. The Brewers bullpen has pitched 60.0 IP over 25 games. That's good for 18th in the major leagues... They've had a rough week, but I really don't see how this is cause for concern. The starting pitching has been fantastic, so it's no surprise that the bullpen had had a below-average workload even with last night's extended game.
  17. Russell Martin has always appeared to be one of the dumbest players in the league. This is based on my extensive research into the field of baseball player physiognomy. (Mike Trout, of course, has firmly established himself as the reigning champion)
  18. Considering A-Ram is still showing adequate defense at 3B, I don't think it would be beneficial to move him. It would be much easier to acquire a bat-first 1B (like an Adam Lind/Mark Reynolds platoon) and end up with a greater net gain than adding Headley.
  19. Sabathia trade has to be #1, but I agree considering this was supposed to be one of A-Ram's "decline" seasons
  20. Not bad against one of the hottest pitchers in baseball.
  21. I have a feeling Roenicke is going to ride this new batting order for a while.
  22. Alright, fine! I'll stop trying to make "Hollywood Carlos Gomez" happen!
