  1. I'm loving this Fiers dominance as much as the next person, but come on, there is no team in baseball that is going to value him highly enough to be a key part of a Profar trade. Fiers was a non-prospect coming into this season.
  2. If you could get Quintana and Sanchez, that's not a bad return. Just based on online scouting reports/prospect rankings, it seems like that would be a horrendous return. Worse than the comp pick.
  3. Obviously I wouldn't complain, but I would prefer Perez or another young pitcher over Feliz. 3 fewer years of team control, injury concerns, and not clear he can thrive as a starter.
  4. I wouldn't put too much stock in one bad year, many people considered him the best pitching prospect in baseball coming into the year, and he's only 21 at AAA/MLB. Would be a tremendous return for Greinke, especially if Melvin can buy-low and get the Braves to throw in another solid piece too.
  5. There aren't that many teams with top prospects who will be willing to trade them for Greinke. If some combination of Johnson/Shields/Garza/Dempster get traded first, Brewers could very well find themselves with no trade options (or be forced to take a garbage return from a team like the White Sox).
  6. DKnobler ‏@DKnobler Giants still looking for bullpen help. Had some interest in K-Rod...until they saw him the other day. lol Even Bruce Bochy isn't dumb enough.
  7. I think players on the DL cannot be traded. They're not going to give up Gordon for A-Ram anyways. As horrible as Gordon has been so far, he was still their #1 prospect going into 2011 (and is still young, and is still a SS). Maybe as part of a Greinke deal.
  8. In Dungeons & Dragons? Because he's certainly not a Texas Ranger yet.
  9. I'm not sure any of those reporters have even suggested that the two teams have talked, much less that a deal is basically done. Though if it's true that Texas would offer Olt, Miami will probably be very interested.
  10. Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi If #Dodgers can't complete deal for Dempster, they have Zack Greinke and Josh Johnson on their list, as well, sources say. Zach Lee + Dee Gordon?
  11. It's just Marlins fans dreaming. I highly doubt Miami even trades Johnson. Hanley, ok, he is a clubhouse cancer and sucks these days anyways. But why would anyone follow that team next year when they gut every good player? Horrible PR move, doubt any trade happens.
  12. Looking like a deal of Olt for Josh Johnson is all but done. Down to Braves and ChiSox right now (per twitter reports) From who? Not seeing this anywhere.
  13. Any credible reports saying that a deal is anywhere close? Not even clear to me Marlins are willing to trade Johnson. Either way, Melvin needs to hurry up.
  14. They have a very good SS prospect at A+ (Xander Bogaerts), FWIW. Not sure they would trade him for a rental given the team's position though.
  15. What other minor pieces do the Braves need? Might make sense to package Greinke with somebody to maximize return. Also, that White Sox/Floyd proposal was just speculation. I don't see how the White Sox are in the running, they just don't have any good players they can afford to trade (i.e. aren't key pieces of their major league roster)
  16. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS With #braves moving on from dempster, greinke will be a big focus for them Delgado + Pastornicky + low-A prospect?
  17. Good move by the Pirates. I don't understand why so many commentators seem low on Wandy. I would have considered taking that contract w/out salary relief if Houston didn't want much in return. Also, I just looked this up for curiosity's sake, and peripherals are obviously more important than surface stats to a certain degree, different leagues, etc., but over the last five (2008-12) seasons: Greinke: 939.1 IP, 3.39 ERA, 1.200 WHIP Rodriguez: 859.2 IP, 3.45 ERA, 1.280 WHIP
  18. Does this silence the can't-pitch-with-anxiety crowd? Half the scouts in baseball watching and he has his best game of the season.
  19. Braun impressing the scouts in attendance. [sarcasm]Think we could trade him for Mike Olt?[/sarcasm]
  20. Am I the only one who would almost rather have Leonys Martin (CF) than Olt? Plus defender (maybe a bit below Gomez) but he can actually hit -- .961 OPS in AAA before he got called up this season. I would trade Greinke for Martin plus one of the Rangers' top pitching prospects plus a high-upside player in the low-minors. Then you can trade Gomez or use him as a 4th OF, move Hart to 1B, and the 2013 (and beyond) lineup is set, so the team could spend every penny coming off the books this offseason on a SS and SP/RP. RF-Aoki CF-Martin LF-Braun 3B-Ramirez 1B-Hart 2B-Weeks C-Lucroy SS- SP-Gallardo
  21. I have to assume all the anti-Delgado sentiments are just because he's a soon-to-be Cub, right? That White Sox/Blue Jays proposal is depressing; Brewers get a guy at A-ball who wasn't in the top 3 in his own system, plus whatever crap the White Sox have to offer? I really just hope Melvin can get any top-100 caliber prospect at this point, much less dream of getting Mike Olt. (And no, Profar is not getting traded. Greinke is no schlub but there have been plenty of much better pitchers traded in recent years, e.g. Lee and Halladay, who did not get top-5 prospect type returns. Particularly since Texas is just going to be competitive against next year, and the year after, etc.)
  22. Sounds like Angels and Rangers are scouting Josh Johnson now too, ugh.
