  1. Olt + Grimm + Sardinas! Though I suspect Melvin wants a SP that can join the rotation in 2013, and I'm not sure how close Grimm is.
  2. Didn't Pujols take substantially less money to sign with LAA instead of Miami, or was that just a rumor? Either way, I don't think you can predict what Greinke is going to do based on what other players have done. If anybody would buck the trend it would be him.
  3. It's hard to predict who will be competitive in any given year, aside from the outliers (Astros will not be, Yankees generall will be). But the Brewers have a perennial MVP candidate in Braun and an aggressive owner. Pretty sure Greinke would have no problem re-signing with Milwaukee outside of the money issue.
  4. Puts pressure on free agents how? I know it is widely stated, but that doesn't mean it's based in fact (as opposed to people suggesting, 'don't blame the heroic player for being greedy, it's the evil union' -- same logic that leads to such vitriol for Scott Boras). Maybe they would talk to the player if it was something outrageous, like signing for the league minimum or something, but I really don't think the union is sitting on the players' shoulder and telling him to take $10 million more to play for the team he hates rather than the team he actually wants to go to. (Also, fairly sure MLBPA members just pay set dues; the union doesn't get a percentage of their contract) This is getting slightly off the topic of Greinke though
  5. That's because players like $$$ Union is used as a scapegoat by fans (and players apparently). Like they are calling up the player and telling him which offer to take? I really doubt it.
  6. I doubt that's true. But yeah, Greinke re-signing is a longshot. Who knows though, Yankees/Phillies/Red Sox likely won't be bidding.
  7. But Gavin Floyd sucks. They are trying to dump his contract, so I'm not sure how the package they get for Floyd can translate into Greinke. Only scenario that I could think of was them trading Viciedo or Rios plus Tyler Flowers to somebody like the Nationals, and then getting Morgan or Gomez or somebody from the Brewers.
  8. If the White Sox get involved, I expect another team to be in on the deal. But who goes to the third team? I was trying to come up with a scenario, but their only tradeable players are major pieces on their major league roster.
  9. Most sensible would be to just move A-Ram to 1B and Hart back to RF. I don't know why they didn't do that this season, other than A-Ram not wanting to move (but too bad, I don't think he's that stubborn if Olt comes into the fold).
  10. Ben Badler ‏@BenBadler RT @Vispoli Mike Olt playing in RF for the third time this year tonight. Brewers have A-Ram at 3B but potential opening in RF if Hart stays at 1B. #conspiracytheories
  11. That's weird. You'd think there'd be some confidentiality issues there. But, I hope this means the Andrus rumors are just that. MLB is structured like a weird cartel, so it would be very strange if they could withhold contract details from other teams. I didn't realize they kept them all on hand (probably easier in the digital era) but makes sense.
  12. Two-years from free agency, could probably get him for much cheaper. If they trade for Andrus (though--not going to happen), Melvin should take the Greinke money and offer it to Andrus (over a longer contract). So like $115/8-years or something.
  13. I think I would take Feliz straight up for Hart or Greinke. Three years of a guy ready to go in the MLB rotation is very valuable. You would rather have Perez or Grimm? Not me. I would much rather have Perez. Feliz walks way too many batters to be a successful SP. His BB/9 and FIP were bad last year even as a RP. I think Perez is the higher upside at this point, plus longer team-control.
  14. I don't think Andrus is in the same contract-league as Tulo/Reyes. He is much, much worse offensively, so it's a question of how much you value his age, and I doubt it would be that huge. That said, he's still looking at a mega-deal that might go north of $100million, true.
  15. Wow, can't believe Andrus is still only 23. He might come at a discount (relative to overall value) since he's not a HR/RBI guy. If Melvin could trade for him and then lock him up through his 20s, what an amazing move that would be. This is all theoretical of course, since I'm still convinced @BrewersNation just makes stuff up given his track record and the bizarre (fake-sounding) way he dispenses information.
  16. I'm pretty sure @BrewersNation just makes stuff up, fwiw.
  17. [sarcasm]Greinke for Vernon Wells.[/sarcasm]
  18. Only way you possibly land Alexei Ramirez is if you trade Gallardo or something. And even then it wouldn't happen in the middle of a playoff push by the White Sox. Definitely not on the table for a Greinke rental.
  19. I don't think 9 out of 10 prospects considered top 1-2 in the game at any given moment end up failing.
  20. Awesome! [sarcasm]I love the Muppets![/sarcasm]
  21. Even with a down year, Alexei Ramirez isn't going anywhere. Certainly not for a rental (when they're trying to compete)
  22. Even if he can only play 2B, Odor is most likely a better prospect than Gennett. I don't think Gennett is that amazing that he should stop us from getting the best talent Melvin thinks is available. I think the SS to target would be Luis Sardinas. When the Rangers signed him as a teenager he was supposed to have as much potential as Profar, but he's been sidetracked by injuries (only in A-ball this season).
  23. It's about fan perception, not that fans only want to watch Hernandez pitch. If you trade every star player, people are going to stop showing up or even following the team. That's why the Marlins franchise is such a joke. If I were a Mariners fan I would want them to trade Hernandez, but must fans don't care about prospects.
  24. I'm actually not sure I would give up Aoki/Nelson for Hellickson. His peripherals in the majors have been horrendous (negative fWAR this season) and he's already close to hitting arbitration. Meanwhile, Nelson is coming into his own as a prospect.
  25. Because they aren't dumb like the Marlins and actually want people to show up at games.
