  1. Could, but i would assume it would be an all or none then. Like, hey mets, your offer stinks weve got better from a couple other teams. Or hey mets, your offer stinks. Weve got better offers from the indians and [insert mystery team name]. Instead of, hey mets, your offer stinks. Weve got better offers from the indians and another team. There could be triangulating going on though. Mets source knows there are 3 teams involved, reporter gets confirmation from Mets source and Indians source, third team remains a mystery.
  2. It could also be, say, a Mets source who has been in discussion with the Brewers and the latter is saying other teams are in play. In fact, it very like is not a Brewers source, because otherwise he/she could give all the team names.
  3. A mysterious disturbance happening in the dugout according to Twitter
  4. According to my source, the deal is confirmed: J Lucroy and W Smith to St. Louis for Y Molina
  5. That the Indians are in on Lucroy. I have known that for a long time. No, that a trade for Lucroy to Cleveland has been confirmed. What do you get from making this up? They are already the frontrunners so even if a trade happens you won't get any scoop points. Ken Rosenthal just directly contradicted you by the way. No deal in place currently.
  6. Ok, now we're getting somewhere!
  7. [sarcasm]So Stearns settled for just Nimmo?[/sarcasm]
  8. Neither Julio Urias nor Jose De Leon in the Dodgers lineup tonight! #LucroyWatch
  9. Nimmo just doesn't make sense. He's MLB ready so where to do you play him? Assuming Braun stays in a corner OF then you're basically giving up on Santana, which makes no sense. Can't really move Santana (or Braun) to 1B unless you cut loose Carter who has been very solid for us.
  10. No... they don't sit players unless a trade is likely or imminent. "Talks" have been going on for weeks.
  11. Bracing to be disappointed by a d'Arnaud/Nimmo trade.
  12. Rosario might be off the table, fine, but I will be very disappointed if Stearns does not demand Smith at the very least, with several other players. d'Arnaud is useless to us, and Nimmo is concerning. He was a top-100 prospect prior to 2015, but fell off the Baseball America list and was not ranked in the top 100 either before 2016 or in the recent midseason update. I don't see how Nimmo is a better option over the next 5 years than Domingo Santana (who he would presumably be replacing). I would wait for the offseason if that's the best offer out there right now.
  13. I don't really want Profar, but I would be all in on Gallo.
  14. Strange that my argument is being called "ridiculous" when it is an objective fact that all 30 teams in baseball will continue to start players on their teams when a trade is not imminent. Jay Bruce is starting tonight as well, guess you guys have another team take control of and correct these foolish GMs!
  15. Yes, he sat out a game against the team he was being traded to while they finalized the deal. Not exactly the same situation... If there is a deal close to being finalized Lucroy would not be starting.
  16. Profar and Gallo both starting Hope it's Gallo. Profar would only add two years of team control over what we already have in Lucroy.
  17. Says who? The smart play is to reduce the risk of injury when a trade is almost certainly on the horizon. What he is being paid for those 3 games is of no concern when you are talking about the future of this team. This argument is ridiculous. I'm going to bow out, if you can't see the points being made in this thread, it is a waste of my time to continue to respond. Yes, how ridiculous of me to take the same position as the front office of the franchise (and every other front office in baseball). Perhaps one day I (and Stearns, and all 29 other GMs) will see the light.
  18. Three days may seem like no big deal if this were a video game, but in the real world you have to start your star player as long as he's on the team. It's a business. They are paying him tens (hundreds?) of thousands of dollars for those three games, and tens of thousands of fans are showing up to watch him play. It's the same reason that, while it makes sense on paper, teams do not deliberately throw their last 5-10 games to get a better draft pick.
  19. There is zero distinction between today and last week or the week before. When is the magic threshold to stop starting him? Two days out but not four? I think they've already been giving him more days off than normal, but as long as a player is on your team and you are paying his salary, you can't just bench him in the hopes that a trade will materialize. Neither the players nor the (more casual) fans want that. There's a very good chance Lucroy is still on the Brewers on August 2 and Stearns will try again in the offseason.
  20. This is a strawman. Nobody has suggested we sit him the entire month of July. But we're talking three days before the deadline. If he gets hurt you miss out on a potentially franchise changing trade. There is zero reason to risk it right now. But if you insist on playing him why not play him at first base at least? Ok, then why was there >0% reason to risk him starting last week or the week before? We've all known Lucroy would be on the trading block since before the season started, literally nothing has changed.
  21. You can't just sit him the entire month of July. Teams are still just talking. If there was a handshake on a deal he would be pulled.
