  1. If anyone feels bad about what the Brewers are paying Cain, just look up what the Cubs are stuck paying Jason Heyward and laugh and laugh.
  2. It was reported elsewhere that the Brewers had made an offer for Yelich, and then that the deal was finalized, before HH said anything about it on here. Suggesting that Darvish was signing with the Cubs seems like another wrong statement, since as far as we know that has not in fact happened yet (how would anyone in the Brewers front office know that anyways?).
  3. I like Corbin but does he really move the needle for us, especially as a rental?
  4. HH was actually wrong about a lot of things. His original info was that we had a big trade with an AL team finalized about a week ago. The only thing he really got right was that there would be multiple moves all lined up to follow each other (the Yelich trade, then the Cain signing already finalized), but that could easily be a lucky guess. Still enjoy his posts and believing that he is right though.
  5. Mike Clevinger has taken over as my #1 dream acquisition for Santana.
  6. Yeah well no offense to BF but a lot of the proposals on here tend to not be very realistic. As I said elsewhere in this thread, getting 5 years of Yelich for just two Baseball America Top 100 prospects, only one of which is a Top 50 prospect, is incredible. It's certainly not an overpay. BA rankings are a good way of stepping back to get objective value on players who we as Brewers fans are overfamiliar with and thus overvalue. I wish them all the best, but none of the four are exactly slam-dunk prospects. Brinson looked awful in the majors last year, and it's not like he's a 19-year-old, he's only 2 years younger than Yelich. Diaz was mediocre last year (.710 OPS with 121 K in just 455 PA) despite being old for his level prospect-wise (21 in A+) Harrison and Yamamoto were both fairly mediocre prior to last year, and although Harrison had a great year he was also comparatively old for A/A+ Yelich was already an above-average player in the major leagues by the time he was 21, and we have him for five years in his prime.
  7. Another reason Santana to Cleveland makes sense: Brantley and Chisenahall are both free agents after this season. Santana is a multi-year piece for them.
  8. Yelich and Cain should be aiming at 162 games a piece as long as they're healthy. Why would we sit the two stars we just added in favor of Brett Phillips??? (No offense to Phillips, who I do like)
  9. Thames is a streaky hitter, you can't just ignore his hot streaks. He is by far the best hitter on the team when facing RHP, it's just that he probably needs to be platooned. Cutting into his PA vs. RHP would be a waste, in my opinion.
  10. Braun is projected to outhit Santana, FWIW. Even factoring in that the projection systems severely penalize players for getting old. I really think Braun deserves credit for not being an albatross contract (at least not yet) like so many others. He's still a solid major league OF, with considerable upside.
  11. Maybe Stearns is keeping Santana because he's going to flip Yelich for pitching.
  12. I think that line-up needs one more good bat, either at 2nd or 1st. Thames had a .390 wOBA vs. RHP last season, and Aguilar had a .372 wOBA vs. LHP. Properly platooned you're looking at top 3-5 production at 1B in all of the majors. My ideal batting order would be: Yelich Cain Braun Thames/Aguilar Shaw Pina Arcia Villar (move up to sixth if we get somebody like Walker or Kipnis)
  13. I dont think anyone worries about his past, fit, or if he earned this contract. 32 33 34 35 rumored buyout 36. Plus talk of his defense already starting to decline. I love Cain but even I'm worried about that age range. Alright. Just pointing out that he's even better than most people realize. Nobody's going to be getting Harper or Stanton on a 5/$80M deal even in their mid-30s.
  14. Since the 2010 season, Cain has been the twelfth best positional player in all of baseball on a per PA basis (3000+ PA). The only better outfielders have been Trout, Harper, and Stanton.
  15. Big fan of Manaea. I saw someone throw out Oakland as a good match on Twitter, though they proposed Kendall Graveman which I would be less excited about.
  16. Salazar had the seventh best xFIP in the majors last season (100+ IP), which is a much better predictor of future success than ERA. He's frequently been ace-like in his career, the problem being injuries. I don't think Santana is enough to land Salazar, to be honest.
  17. No Chiz is horrific at 3B. Heck, the Tribe was trying Carlos Santana at 3B instead of playing Chiz there at one time. Chiz has played 1 game (2 IP) since 2015 at 3rd. The Tribe would play other options at 3B (Diaz/ Urshela) before turning back to Chiz.. He also hasn't hit 500 PA since 2014, so I don't really think he's blocking a Santana addition. Actually it's being reported now that Cleveland was even in on Cain. Everything suggests they are perfectly happy an OF in the right deal.
  18. Chiz does not go back to 3B. He would make Braun appear to be a gold glover at 3B in comparison. Also, unless Kipnis was dealt, Kip is at 2B & JRam is at 3rd. Why? Chisenhall's career numbers at 3B are not horrific. Everything I've read suggests that the Indians are lukewarm on Kipnis and want to move J-Ram back to 2B. Doesn't necessarily make sense to me, but that seems to be the basis for all these Kipnis trade scenarios.
  19. I'd be pretty happy rolling into a playoff series with SP Darvish, SP Salazar, SP Nelson at the top of the rotation with a lineup of CF Cain, 1B Thames/Aguilar, LF Yelich, 3B Shaw, RF Braun, 2B Kipnis, SS Arcia, C Pina/Vogt, plus CL Knebel + SU Hader in the bullpen. Not totally unrealistic at this point.
  20. Absolutely, I think the two are independent since (1) we have payroll to spend, and (2) Santana seemingly has to be traded at this point. My dream scenario would be adding both Darvish and Salazar. (I don't think Archer is realistically available at this point, certainly not for Santana who gives Tampa Bay 0 extra years of team control)
  21. If Cleveland makes that trade its because they believe Kipnis is never going to play again. Not even then... Talk about over valuing you items.. I can see why people believe DSantana as a righty is a fit for Cleveland (since they appear to have a surplus in starting pitching) & yes it makes a lot of sense for 2019 & beyond, but no one has clarified where DSantana plays in Cleveland in 2018. I think most assume he is on the field as someone else is out due to injury but if people are healthy (& producing), who does he replace in a FT role? Not Zimmer in CF. Not Brantley in LF. Not Yonder at 1B (since DSantana doesn't play there). Not at DH as EE is there (unless Edwin plays 1B & that weakens the infield D) which puts a small market team placing its largest FA signing on the bench. Does he replace Chisenhall in RF? That would mean over $5M being put onto the bench (again a very tough thing for a small market club to do) or he platoons as the right handed part (which seems strange as DSantana is solid vs RHP). The ONLY reason the Tribe picked up & paid Jay Bruce in August 2017 was the injuries to Chiz & Brantley. When Chiz got hurt in July he was leading the Tribe in RBI. Sadly many Cleveland fans saw Bruce on the team & his part of the long winning streak & believe much more offense is needed to be replaced this off-season... LF Brantley CF Zimmer RF Santana 3B Chisenhall 2B Ramirez
  22. It's all about maximizing value though, even if in a vacuum Santana is a better long-term asset than Braun. I think Braun/Phillips in OF, Thames/Aguilar at 1B, and a SP trade return for Santana gives us the most value.
  23. How much does that really matter in the 70s? I feel like teams are not going way under slot in that range.
