  1. another trade I wasnt expecting to happen. this has been an interesting off-season thanks to a fairly weak free-agent market
  2. Dodgers Close To Acquiring Jimmy Rollins By Mark Polishuk [December 10, 2014 at 4:37pm CST] 4:37pm: The Phillies are believed to getting two young pitchers back as part of the Rollins trade, Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets. 4:20pm: The trade is “close” but isn’t yet completely finalized, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal tweets. The teams haven’t worked out which players will be in the deal and a third team could possibly be involved. 4:07pm: The Dodgers have acquired shortstop Jimmy Rollins from the Phillies, CSN Philly’s Jim Salisbury reports, hearing from an industry source that the transaction is a “done deal.” As reported earlier today, Rollins was willing to waive his 10-and-5 rights to accept a trade to the Dodgers. After losing Hanley Ramirez to the Red Sox in free agency, Los Angeles filled its vacancy at shortstop with another high-profile veteran. Rollins actually generated more fWAR (3.6 to 3.4) than Ramirez in 2014, as while Ramirez delivered more at the plate, Rollins far outpaced Ramirez defensively. Rollins is no longer the offensive force that he was in his prime, but he still posted an above-average 102 wRC+ in 2014, hitting .243/.323/.394 with 17 homers and 28 steals over 609 plate appearances. Rollins, 36, spent his entire 15-year career in Philadelphia, with the highlights including the NL MVP Award in 2007 and a World Series title in 2008. Rollins is the Phillies’ all-time franchise leader in hits and doubles, and only Mike Schmidt played more games in a Phillie uniform.
  3. rather surprised with that move
  4. right, but the pirates havent had stability in the rotation since 2007 when they were going in with Snell/Duke/Gorzo/Maholm. now they have stability and depth. not saying they're all going to be aces or any good, just now if/when someone falls off the horse they have legit viable options to replace them with
  5. Pirates have some serious pitching depth for 2015. Cole, Liriano, Burnett, Eddie Veddie (if they resign him), Worley, Locke, Morton And then two top 50 prospects in AAA with Kingham and Taillon.
  6. Or 100% today, 0% tomorrow because it fell off
  7. he's building for Nashville
  8. shallow CF/over 2B is where most set up for MLB postgame performances.
  9. Are you speaking about when they become free agents? Id like that too, unfortunately, the players are going to go where ever they feel they have the best chance to make the majors, and if taking league min for another team with a better chance of getting to the majors is available, I dont know if 200k more would really sway them to stay
  10. how many locker rooms do you think he will be in before opening day? im going with 5. maybe.
  11. do the brewers need help drawing fans on saturday nights?
  12. WOOF. I definitely nailed that... 2nd tier, overrated and washed up
  13. i'd be surprised if Smoltz didnt get in on a first ballot. not surprised.. more like shocked.
  14. 5 years, $100 million dollars offer from Boston, Heyman says its done
  15. 2013 rule 5 saw 9 players get selected with all but 3 going back to their original team. im really not worried about bradley or any others because the chances of them getting selected and not being returned is very low http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_5_draft_results
  16. just remember, whoever gets claimed has to stay on the MLB roster until mid season like Wang did, so im not sure how many of those arms are going to end up getting claimed.
  17. guess all the "cant believe we let him go and replaced him with Reynoverbay" can finally end once and for all since they all ended up with the same awful numbers.
  18. so much for that "hot start" last season, huh?
  19. Red Sox Claim Juan Francisco By Jeff Todd [November 19, 2014 at 2:23pm CST] The Red Sox have claimed Juan Francisco off waivers from the Blue Jays, Boston announced today. Francisco, 27, had been noted as a non-tender candidate by MLBTR’s Mark Polishuk, and obviously was headed in that direction before the move by the Jays to expose him to the wire. Francisco is projected by MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz to take home a $2.2MM payday through arbitration. Boston still has time to determine whether it will go down that path, of course, but obviously his power left-handed bat holds enough appeal that the team decided to open the possibility. Last year, Francisco posted a fairly typical .220/.291/.456 slash over 320 plate appearances for the Jays, swatting 16 home runs in the process. That is rare power in this day and age, especially for a player who is capable of playing third base. But Francisco’s strikeout issues — he was second-worst in the league, 300 PA minimum — have shown no signs of abating. And his defense at the hot corner has generally drawn substandard reviews. The timing of the move is somewhat interesting, of course, given that Boston is said to be hotly pursuing free agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who also hits from the left side. But the two players profile quite differently, needless to say, and Francisco looks more like a platoon or bench option — particularly given his extremely poor splits against lefties — if the team is unable to consummate a deal with the high-dollar Sandoval.
  20. from $800k non-roster invitee to a $15 million dollar pay day over 3 years. not bad... not bad at all
  21. and good luck to Duke, glad to see him go to the other chicago team! best of luck in the AL!
  22. no, they would have had to offer Duke $15 million dollars which he would have taken in a heart beat
  23. and yet they have more world series than the brewers do
  24. but that is not the Cardinal Way™
  25. I thought leaving it just as Martin made it that much more unbelievable. Glad he went back to the AL, and yet another piece the Pirates wont have next year.
