  1. well the catching situation in pittsburgh has been a mess for the last couple years... and really, the pirates can afford to spend 8.5 a year on catcher because outside of the rotation, they have pretty much every position set with pre arb or arb players. They drafted Tony Sanchez 1st overall a couple seasons ago to be the projected starting catcher, but he floundered last year in AA ball, and I think pirates mgmt is willing to give him a shot in a year or two... but really, anything is going to be better than Barajas from last year. dude was so awful on the regular.
  2. I wasnt even aware the Nationals were in the sweepstakes for Hamilton?
  3. I'd trade Jungmann for Walden in a heartbeat, too. Walden is already a proven MLB pitcher, who would be under control through 2016.
  4. at least put it into perspective if you're trying to prove something with his stats from this last season...
  5. Josh Hamilton 2011 AB: 487 HR: 25 RBI: 94 BB: 39 OPS: .882 Josh Hamilton 2010 AB:518 HR:32 RBI:100 BB:43 OPS:1.044 Josh Hamilton 2009 AB:336 HR:10 RBI:54 BB:24 OPS:.741 Josh Hamilton 2008 AB:624 HR:32 RBI:130 BB:64 OPS:.901

  7. Career Total @ Miller Park 7-4, 2.66 ERA, 101.1 IP, 8 HR in 26 games. and that was against Braun/Fielder and Co. in a park that they dominated in
  8. in a heartbeat
  9. it sucks that what he did as a coach overshadows what he did as a player, since what he did as a player is what would get him into the HOF...
  10. Well, Pete Rose didn't cheat. He broke a rule and lied out it. youre right, he gambled as a coach and bet on his own team, and admitted to it. Not necessarily cheating since he claims he never bet against the Reds...
  11. Guilty until proven Innocent, right? Sucks there is such a cloud hanging over Bonds, but until he's proven to have cheated he shouldnt be denied the HOF. Pete Rose cheated, it was known, it is known, and its why he'll never get into the HOF.
  12. yes yes yes yes. if Ax faulters Walden could step in
  13. you post about how not much has happened and then all these players start signing... upton being the latest. crazy

  19. so the closer market is pretty much locked in with Madson and Broxton deals... doesnt really do much for bullpen arms though. I dont think any mid-relievers have signed for much yet...
  20. Reds, Jonathan Broxton Agree To Deal By Zach Links [November 28 at 7:35am CST] WEDNESDAY, 7:35am: The three-year deal is worth $21MM, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (Twitter links). The deal will pay Broxton $4MM in 2013, $7MM in 2014 and $9MM in 2015. It also includes a $9MM club option for 2016 with a $1MM buyout. If the Reds trade Broxton, the guarantee grows to $22MM, with the 2016 option becoming a mutual option with a $2MM buyout. TUESDAY, 11:56pm: The Reds and Jonathan Broxton have reached agreement on a multi-year deal, sources told Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The deal is believed to be for at least three years and an announcement is expected on Wednesday. The Jet Sports Management client is ranked 45th on MLBTR's list of top 50 free agents. Broxton is expected to serve as the Reds closer, enabling them to shift Aroldis Chapman to the starting rotation. The 28-year-old posted a 2.48 ERA with 7.0 K/9, 2.6 BB/9 and a 53.8% ground ball rate in 58 relief innings last season. Broxton was limited to just 14 games in 2011 but underwent successful arthroscopic elbow surgery in September of that year and had an average fastball velocity of 94.7 mph this past season. The Reds were also said to be looking at a pair of free agent relievers coming back from injury in Joakim Soria and Ryan Madson. However, Madson was scooped up earlier today by the Angels when the two sides agreed to a one-year deal. Read more at http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/#FfeVv1zEuRlcXVrK.99
  21. if stats arent your thing, just go by availability in fantasy baseball!
  22. Guthrie just got 3 yrs $25 mil, avg of $8.333 mil a yr... so if were looking at between $6-9 mil a year for a mid/backend rotation guy... yikes.
  23. agreed, RIP
  24. Cubs To Sign Scott Feldman By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 27 at 9:41am CST] The Cubs announced that they agreed to sign right-hander Scott Feldman to a one-year contract. Feldman, a client of agent Matt Brown, obtains a base salary of $6MM with $1MM in incentives, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports (on Twitter). Feldman appeared in 29 games for the Rangers this past season, making 21 starts and pitching as a reliever eight times. He finished the season with a 5.09 ERA, 7.0 K/9, 2.3 BB/9 and a 42.2% ground ball rate in 123 2/3 innings. Dave Cameron of FanGraphs identified Feldman as one of the best buys available for teams seeking value at the back of their rotations, explaining that Feldman resembles Brandon McCarthy in many ways. The Rangers declined their 2013 option for Feldman last month, choosing a $600K buyout over a $9.25MM salary. He did not rank among MLBTR's top 50 free agents. ESPN.com's Buster Olney first reported the sides were nearing a deal. Read more at http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/#RG4mF5DoCxKP4CTz.99
  25. Cubs close to signing Feldman Martin is looking at Pirates, Rangers and someone else not the Yankees apparently. Rockies are interested now in Correia and Francis... if either of them get Feldman type money then it'll be a sign of mediocre pitchers getting paid Mets offered Wright a 7yr extension/Rays just extended Longoria 6 more years... things are really starting to pick up, even if the players are not current Free Agents, it further locks up the market for those who are available.
