  1. Ok? Can you maybe make some sort of argument as to why you don't think there is a problem? Read the second linked article in the original post and then tell me what you disagree with. To me, when one team is making more off their TV contract than 26 teams are from their entire revenues, it seems just a tad unbalanced. All else being equal, if I come to the poker table with $200 and you come with $100, the odds are in my favor. Is it impossible for you to win? No. But you can't afford to make the mistakes that I would be able to make. Just like anything else, in the short term you can point out instances of the the low or mid market teams having success, but over the long run the big market, high payroll teams will take up most of the post season spots. its a business, LAD know how much ad/commercial revenue FOX will make off the LAD market and LAD is capitalizing on it. Its a business move, the owners bought the team to make money and compete. stadium renovations are beginning this offseason, plus who knows what kind of debt, if any, they have from buying the team from McCort. MLB has the revenue sharing in place to help small market teams like Milwaukee, but im not sure why teams in major markets should be demonized for running a business and making a profit. if Milwaukee had the opportunity to do so I doubt anyone would be upset about it, and its a shame that Milwaukee is such a small market to begin with..
  2. im not sure I understand the problem with this?
  3. I was hoping you were right but was afraid Spring training was the date most free agents were concerned with. Doesn't really pay to sign a contract early. Whomever signs first is likely to miss out on some money. Maybe most will sign by mid December. Still a possibility. sounds like a number of players are on the verge of signing with teams... Broxton, Madson, Rivera, Ichiro, Pettite maybe Martin. Of course, players like Greinke and Hamilton will probably still take a month or so, but a lot of the decent - to pretty great players could sign here in the next week or two. not that pettite REALLY falls in that category, but once you've gotten a couple guys signed to deals it sets the benchmark for the rest of free agency.
  4. •November 4th - Free agents can sign contracts with teams other than their former clubs •November 9th - Players must accept or reject qualifying offers •November 7th - 9th - GM Meetings thats why Still think we are going to see more quick signings? maybe, maybe I was off, but all it takes is one player signing for the floodgates to open up
  5. I JUST WANTED TO TOP THIS FOR MY ENTHUSIASM FOR THE 2013 SEASON!!!!!!!!! I CANT WAIT!!!!!
  6. you nailed it, this trade was ACTUALLY all about sticking it to ESPN.
  7. he was getting 2nd place with or without the OTL leak of his failed test.
  8. is that really the only difference? revenue sharing? i havent looked to hard, but I couldnt find the amount the Marlins will be receiving.
  9. was there this much outcry when Boston traded A-Gon, Crawford, Beckett and Punto for Loney and prospects?
  10. was Miami's stadium built with taxpayer money? Wouldnt the people of Miami have a viable fraud case against Loria now? Im sure this is all stretching... but man, those marlins fans HAVE to be pissed. no number of prospects can make up for losing that many "big name" players.
  11. The title of this thread should read: Blue Jays close to acquiring the Miami Marlins
  12. yes! thank you. what a riske signing that was.
  13. who was that reliever the brewers signed 4 or 5 years ago to a 3 year contract of like 4 million, only to have him be hurt for 2+ years of the contract? name is escaping me
  14. FA started today at midnight, the signing period will be quick, but you probably wont see many signings until after Nov 9th when the Qualified Offers must be accepted/rejected. Brewers can always stockpile arms in the minors, and waiver claims are a great way of taking other teams unwanted talent without dipping into FA signings would love to see them go after Grilli from the pirates for a late reliever/setup man with Henderson
  15. best money spent so far this off-season!
  16. Qualifying offers due by midnight tonight! roster has been trimmed down to 33, possibly lower still to go! UFA season opens up Sunday at 12:01 AM EST.
  17. as a pittsburgh resident, and lifelong brewers/pirates fan, I was ecstatic to see him come to milwaukee. watching him in pittsburgh was so fun, hated seeing him get traded to washington (they got hanrahan plus a guy now in japan for morgan and sean burnett), but loved getting him in march last year for cutter and cash. will be missed, will root for him wherever he ends up
  18. later tony plush, it was nice known' ya
  19. for the hundredth time on this forum, the option on gonzalez was on 525 plate appearances in 2012, which he did not reach
  20. getting a veteran arm doesnt mean that they're any less excited for their young arms... it just means they dont have to push them all into the limelight all at once.
  21. both served purposes for each team... the brewers got a bullpen arm... pirates got a player to trade to the yankees for cash. win/win
  22. Why? •November 4th - Free agents can sign contracts with teams other than their former clubs •November 9th - Players must accept or reject qualifying offers •November 7th - 9th - GM Meetings thats why
