  1. will never happen. The Rangers didn't want to give up Olt for Greinke, and are only giving up Olt for Johnson because they can control Johnson in 2013.
  2. ^ very well put. I was trying to say that in my last post. No, it's not. It's been reported, and it fits both teams needs.
  3. If Melvin waits it out, the teams that want a SP will trade for Garza, Dempster, etc and their won't be anyone left to take Greinke, and whoever is left will just give up peanuts because they know the Brewers have to get something for Greinke. Waiting it out is not a good option. B2k1121 - there are plenty of national reporters (Buster Olney, John Heyman, Ken Rosenthal) talking about it. Not just some blogger. I posted the blogger cause he summed it up best.
  4. haha, touche'
  5. just posted in other Greinke thread. Speaking of that, there's two Greinke threads, both with the same subject (shopping him). Anyway we can combine them? People are asking and saying the same things in both threads.
  6. There's lots of them. Google or do a search for #joshjohnson on twitter Here's one that sums it up the best http://www.bbtia.com/home/2012/7/25/josh-johnson-the-rangers-and-the-trade-that-could-be.html no, it's not a done deal, but the second the Rangers said they'd be willing to shed Olt for Johnson, the Marlins suddenly took serious interest. Betting man says it's all but done.
  7. well, the yanks are hot on Headley now. God I want to get rid of the next two years of Aramis deal so bad.
  8. ^ started drinking early
  9. I doubt the Braves will shed both Minor and Delgado. They'd have to bring up Tehrenhen (sp) then and they'd have to sign a SP in the offseason.
  10. Looking like a deal of Olt for Josh Johnson is all but done. Down to Braves and ChiSox right now (per twitter reports)
  11. Again, Delgado projects as a #3 or #4 with upside. For a 2 month rental of Greinke, I'd say that's a fair return for the Brewers. It also covers something that the Brewers need.
  12. With Hanley covering the 3B hole in LA, the Dodgers not interested in Aramis anymore (per twitter). However, the Yankees are reportedly willing to do "whatever it takes" to land a solid 3B. C'MON DOUG GIVE ARAMIS TO THE YANKS!
  13. why? both rentals Dumper had better numbers. I think Delgado will do it, but I'd be down with Delgado and Pasternicky
  14. I knew those guys (and I assumed Hall) would be brought up. The good contracts he's signed far far far out weigh the bad ones. No GM is perfect. Melvin is a good GM.
  15. It makes sense for both sides so if the report is true I'd say it's damn near a done deal. So, Greinke to ChiSox for who? (twitter saying ChiSox leading candidate for Greinke now, fwiw) Edit: Just read this JonHeyman: With #braves moving on from dempster, greinke will be a big focus for them hello Delgado!
  16. I'd be fine with Delgado straight up. He projects as a #3 or #4 which is plenty for a 2 month rental. His upside is big too. I agree Aramis has to go if we get Olt. Olt is already 24 already. Let him sit in AAA the rest of this year, maybe some of next year, but he has to come up at some point next year.
  17. Except they couldn't. I could argue the $115M 5yr offer was just a PR move, like the Prince and CC offers if you want to get down to it. The Brewers may have known Greinke wouldn't take it all along. That, and for all we know the last year on that contract was some sort of option and the guaranteed part of it was around $100M or less. A small/mid-market team cannot afford to shell out $24M a year for 6 years to one guy.
  18. Dempster boned his trade value by balking at the Braves offer. Other teams don't want to deal with a guy that is going to twiddle his thumbs on deciding to accept a trade. JJ has the shoulder issue that could scare teams. He pitched a gem the other night though, just like Greinke. Garza is not on the same level as Greinke and JJ. I'd say Greinke is the best SP option out there right now for buyers.
  19. No way they stand pat. No way they settle for one pick. They will get something for him. a top 50 prospect at the minimum (probably a top 30 prospect) yeah, his math wasn't adding up. I'd say the Brewers were WAY stretching it to begin with at the $115M 5yr mark. Again, the Melvin and the Brewers have admitted more than once that the $96M payroll they shelled out this year is killing them and is more than they can afford. Between signing Aramis to that big deal, assuming Braun was out for 50 games, and KRod accepting arb, which the Brewers assumed he wouldn't so they could get a pick, Melvin ended up going over budget. Brewers payroll probably maxes between $80-$90M. Figure start the 2013 season at $80M at the most and then add on as the season goes on to fill holes and what not.
  20. Has the last two nights supported the thread titles claim or what? foolish contracts? Like who?
  21. Olt for Greinke straight up would be fine. You're getting a top 30 prospect for a 2 month rental. The Brewers won't get better than Olt, and if they do, it won't be by much. The xfactor is if they throw in some more guys for a better prospect than Olt, or more prospects.
  22. This is EXACTLY what I am arguing with coworkers about right now. I could not agree with you more. Not having Greinke come out in the 8th was a very smart move for the exact reasons you mentioned. I actually was calling for him to be pulled after the 6th even. For the few of you who still think the Brewers can afford Greinke, Hamels signed with philly for 6yrs $144M ($24M per). That is NOT something the Brewers could afford doing. I'm not saying Greinke will go for that same amount, but I am saying that on the open FA market, Greinke will get close to it.
  23. Dumper doesn't want to go http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/chicago-cubs-ryan-dempster-does-not-want-trade-atlanta-braves-los-angeles-dodgers-072412 and Delgado is arguably a top 20 prospect, fyi.
