  1. I told a few coworkers about this site. One of them you recently let in, Team Hoyt. If you see us posting and you see the same IP addy, it's cause we're both posting from work.
  2. I'm thinking the Braves saw something they really liked in his two AA starts and his bullpen session. They have a decent amount of options at SP, and the fact that they're throwing Sheets out there after just two AA starts...
  3. I'd tank the season for that deal. Get Nolan on the phone...
  4. Was the topic at hand not regarding protecting Braun in the lineup? I thought it was at least? I just gave an example of why you protect your best hitter. Wasn't trying to make a fit of anything.
  5. lol, I was actually thinking of starting a anti-optimism thread of sorts to do just that (poke holes in optimistic outlook for rest of season) but the true brewer fan in me told me not too.
  6. I'm all about optimism. It's when someone says... ...that I had to chime in with a bit or reality. 84-86 wins with help of a weak division and/or extra playoff spot and they could do it. I am truly optimistic that could happen.
  7. Let's get this thread back on topic and move the "will the brewers contend" convo to the "2nd half optimism thread" Thornburg was always speculated to be a bullpen arm because of his build, or lack of. I still think the Brewers will use him as long relief and then maybe have him fill a spot if Greinke is traded or if Wolf doesn't get it together, but what do you guys think going forward? Do you think he'll be a bullpen guy will he be a staple in the rotation?
  8. To echo what most of you have said already, you have to Bianchi his chance. The other options are crud so it's not like you're going to really hurt the team in anyway sans maybe a bit of a hole in the defense, but even on that note maybe the kid's defense is good? Only one way to find out...
  9. putting together a 90 win season after a 40-45 start will be hard. Optimism aside, the odds are not in the Brewers favor right now. Injuries, crapo bullpen, crafty lefty with a an almost 6 ERA, knucklehead base running, knucklehead fielding, predator batting below the mendoza line...it's a lot to overcome. Not trying to be debbie downer here. I am rooting for them, but you can't be serious in saying it wouldn't be hard for them to contend from here out.
  10. yeah, that's easily obtainable too. Why not just win out? 117-45
  11. yeah, the CC/Sheets/Gallardo combo would have been nice. but, instead, we got our one win from Dave Bush, playoff ace.
  12. Believing is fine. There is a decent chance they could do it, but the odds are not on the Brewers side to say the least. Let's not forget that along with the odds, there's still holes in the lineup due to injuries. That's a lot to overcome and become a contender. I'm not saying pack up and sell now, but like I said in the other thread, after the next 3 series against the division contenders will tell the tale.
  13. These next 3 upcoming series will tell the tale. PIT/STL/CIN After those series are done. I assume Doug is going to sit down with Mark and they're going to make the ultimate buy or sell decision. Thing to remember, the Brewers are 40-45, 5 games under .500. Even if they take 2 out of 3 from all 3 division contenders, going 6-3 during the stint, they'll still be 46-48, 2 games below .500. Going to need a serious hot streak in order to justify having a solid shot at contending and not selling.
  14. It's pretty much common sense more than anything. Braun is up, close game, Izzy on deck. Why pitch to Braun, who has a .994OPS when you can pitch to Izzy and his .500OPS. Don't have to IBB Braun either. Can just pitch outside the zone hoping maybe he'll chase. Braun is up, Aramis on deck. Pitcher knows he has to do his best to get Braun out, as if Braun gets on, Aramis is a good hitter who can knock him in. It's not really rocket science. Seems as if the topic is being over analyzed.
  15. 2008, especially 1st half, he was damn good. Started the AS game even.
  16. You could say that about half the starting 1B in MLB.
  17. If you read the majority of posts in this thread, the popular conclusion on Fiers is a lot more than "cautiously optimistic". Since you did bring up Estrada though, I am way high on him. Admittedly too high. I think he has starting rotation stuff and then some.
  18. I should also mention his 5.06ERA over those two starts. That could equate to a shelling this Sunday. We shall see. I am rooting for him.
  19. I think you guys are prematurely crowning him. He's been good. I hope he stays good, but let's wait before we name him ace of staff.
  20. Lack of walks along with K per inning shows he's going right after guys, not that he ever really did, but it just goes to show he's going out there and acting like his old self. It will be interesting to see how that mindset works when he makes his first big league start.
  21. Talking to others. Sorry. Sometimes I mix my brewer boards together.
  22. Yes, there is. No book on them - hitters aren't sure what to expect. Happens all the time.
  23. ...by pitchers considering Ramirez as a legit threat, despite his slow start. There was a point last year in which Prince was either getting IBB or they would just pitch outside to him nonstop, looking for him to possibly swing, because the Brewers had no one solid behind him. Weeks was injured and Hart was leading off.
  24. I'm all about selling the money before the min wage guys, trust me. I just don't see it happening knowing Doug. Sell Hart and ARam, put Green and Gamel at the corners and hope for the best. Sounds dumb, but if the Brewers don't do that, then Gamel and Green are just going to either rot on the bench or be career minor leaguers. Scooter and Schaefer are arguably the next guys up. Schaefer takes over in CF for the Morgan/Gomez platoon and Scooter takes over for Weeks...ok, trade weeks too.
  25. If Braun had garbage batting behind him no one would pitch to him. If you don't follow up your best hitter with someone who a pitcher doesn't think is an easy out, he won't produce like he should. Braun hasn't struggled without Prince because, despite his slow start, Aramis has filled the 4 spot just fine.
