  1. So the Brewer bats bailed out the bullpen 7 out of the 16 times the bullpen blew a save. That's still not good on the bullpens part. The 22 loses are are real kicker as well.
  2. The Cards turn around combined with the Braves implosion last year is ridiculously far fetched when it comes to saying the Brewers can do the same and hope for the same out of someone else.
  3. If you want, we can ignore the blown saves, and move onto bullpen losses... Axford - 6 losses KRod - 4 losses ^ that right there, 10 losses in half a season from what are considered two solid closers, is brutal. Veras - 3 losses Loe - 3 losses Parra - 3 losses Dillard - 2 losses Perez - 1 loss 22 total losses chalked up by the Brewers bullpen in half a season this year. For comparison, let's look at other teams in the NL Central Brewers bullpen has lost 22 games, with 16 blown saves Reds bullpen has lost 7 games, with 9 blown saves Pirates bullpen has lost 8 games, with 6 blown saves Cards bullpen has lost 17 games, with 14 blown saves Stros bullpen has lost 18 games, with 9 blown saves
  4. Fair point. I should have mentioned that, but that's still 16 games in which the Brewers had a lead, that the bullpen blew the lead. I don't know how to look up how many of those 16 games the Brewers ended up pulling it out, but I bet it's 2-3 TOPS.
  5. The Brewers, as of today, 7/17/2012, have blown 16 saves this year. The Brewers, as of today, 7/17/2012, are 8 games out of the division lead. If the Brewers had just cut the blown saves in half, they'd be atop the division right now. When this season began, I had little to no worries about the bullpen. I remember MLB channel, when they previewed the Brewers on the 30 clubs in 30 days program, gave the Brewers bullpen a 4/5 rating, with wild thing Mitch Williams giving them a 5/5 rating. Despite all the injuries and the slow starts/under-performers of the offensive side of the ball, The Brewers would be atop their division if it wasn't for the bullpen. There is only one guy in the brewer bullpen with an ERA under 4...and it's KRod....and his ERA isn't that far off from 4...and one would assume he won't still be on the team come Aug 1st. The bullpen single handedly has taken down the 2012 Milwaukee Brewers.
  6. If the Brewers win the rest of the games in this stretch I'll deuce an SUV. Sorry to all you guys who still have hope, but I, like a lot of others here, jumped ship after last nights loss. There's nothing I'd like more than to be wrong, and to have prematurely jumped ship on the optimism train, but I don't believe in unicorns. This may sound strange, but I am excited to see what the post-trade deadline brewers look like and more/less how they produce. I'm not saying the post-trade deadline brewers will be better than the Brewers now, but I think there maybe more surprises like Fiers or Estrada hidden in the Brewers farm system that could arise.
  7. Someone will give something up for him. He has big XBH power (nice slugging %) and takes a walk with the best of them. He's got reps at 1B too. I wouldn't mind trading Maldanado for a bigger return, assuming the Brewers can get it, but law of the land says they'll dump Kotteras and keep Maldanado.
  8. Here's what you do... Demote Ax to the 8th inning. KRod takes over the closer role. Hopefully he gets some clean saves between now and the trade deadline, and you use that to add value to KRod for a trade. After KRod is dealt, if Ax has calmed down in the 8th inning role, give him another shot at the closer role again. At that point it more than likely won't matter anyways.
  9. I don't see how any can argue with trading Kotteras, seriously.
  10. ^ another reason why dere's somtin fishy goin on dere hey
  11. Agree with this completely. Get best possible option for Kotteras but get something for him, don't just let him go.
  12. He is fine. He's sucked so far in July (9.00ERA) so they're giving him a rest. They should pitch him last game of Reds series though, fwiw. Not sure why they're not doing that.
  13. If he starts against the Reds then I get it for the reasons stated by PrinceEatMeat above. If not, I don't.
  14. This is what is making me think twice about the whole "he's just recharging his batteries" bit.
  15. let me quote myself to push the main factor here...
  16. It's all good. Just needed some rest.
  17. Even if signing him long term means signing him to a ridiculous 7 year, $175M deal? Would you have signed Prince to a 10yr $210M deal, knowing the Brewers payroll most likely maxes out between 90-100M for at least the next 5 years? It seems as if too many people are overlooking the affordability factor here, or lack of.
  18. No, I doubt it has to do with a trade. Greinke probably needs rest after last week. Edit - Per Drew Olson - If Greinke moved to Saturday, it would give them Gallardo-Greinke in first two in Cincy.
  19. cosigned I read one report that he did in fact turn down the 100M offer, but I can't find the link to it so take it with a grain a salt. Probably saw it on twitter where I get all my other news from but can't remember who said it. Phillies and Hamels supposedly close on a major deal. Watch that be a mammoth deal that will jack up Greinke's worth beyond belief. People need to remember that this years $96M payroll is out of the ordinary. The Brewers did not anticipate KRod accepting arbitration and they signed Aramis to his deal as a panic move assuming Braun would be missing 50 games. I'd say Brewers payroll tops out at more like $85-90M. Mark will spend but he's not going into his own pockets.
  20. Rangers want Greinke fresh I guess.
  21. I was joking, but if you want to push the envelope and act as if I'm just sitting here trying to start hellacious rumors about LucrOy (like you just insinuated), I can link to a story regarding their being some legitimacy to alcohol being involved in the accident.
  22. I think you guys are taking too much into the small sample sizes of Maldanado and LuCroy this year when you say put LuCroy at 1B and have Maldanado catch. LuCroy was on fire before he got drunk and broke his hand, err, his wife dropped the suitcase on his hand, but let's not forget he was a career 8 spot hitter pre-hot streak. Chances of LuCroy being as good as he was pre-injury for the rest of the year maybe a stretch at best. Same goes for Maldanado. He was batting .200 before his call up (though admittedly in 2011 he killed it in AAA). I wouldn't keep all 3 guys and I wouldn't start any of them at 1B either. I like Hart at 1B and I think the Brewers OF is fairly deep. If Morgan/Gomez can't right their ship bring up Schaefer for CF. I'd trade Kotteras first and foremost, but if Kotteras doesn't garnish anything worth a lick on the market and Maldanado does garnish something real nice, I'd part with Maldanado and sell him high.
  23. I'd throw Kotteras out on the block and see if he would garnish anything worth a lick in return. If he doesn't, do the same with Maldonado and see what the Brewers could get for him. Luc is around for the long haul. Having a good backup C is nice, but if you can fill another hole by trading a guy who plays once a week, then you have to do so.
  24. ^ this right here sums it up the best I think. The Brewers arguably overpaid for Aramis when they assumed Braun would miss 50 games, and due to the fact that this year they knew they had Greinke/Marcum/KRod back. The $96M payroll was a way of the Brewers saying they were going for it this year. If any team is willing to just take Aramis for his contract, you have to do it. His contract is back-end loaded and at 37 you can argue how much is left in the tank. He has picked it up as of late, no doubt, but it makes the team better for the next couple of years if they are able to shed Aramis.
  25. The Dodgers want in upgrade at 3B badly, and are eyeing Aramis Ramirez as one of their options. https://twitter.com/TBrownYahoo/status/223498481468325891 Aramis has been heating up lately and has been solid in the clean up spot, but, if the Brewers to decide to sell, I don't see how trading Aramis would be the worst idea. His contract is hugely backend loaded, and now that we know Hart is solid at 1B and we have Aoki in RF, we could slide Gamel back to 3B and go without Aramis next year. Thoughts?
