  1. I think you just contradicted yourself there. Even with the sweep, Melvin is in a tough spot. If they sweep, he's going to have to sit back and see what comes of philly/wash series.
  2. I agree with consenus, if they don't sweep, sell. In my first post, I was still thinking they're arguably still sellers even if they sweep, seriously. Do you realize if they do win the series, taking 2-3, and they're 5.5 games back, that's still a lot?
  3. I said the same thing about Ax struggling and how it would (could) give KRod more value on the trade market. I just hope KRod has some clean saves ahead.
  4. I could not find another thread to throw this into so I started another one. Now that the Brewers have won the last two series, this weekend series against the Reds is huge. With Votto out, and Estrada/Gallardo/Fiers on the mound (3 pitchers that have been solid lately), I think 2-3 is possible. The sweep seems a stretch, but, if you believe, the crew could do that too and boom, Brewers are at .500. Here's the thing though, even if the Brewers get to .500, they'd be 4 or more games back. Could winning this series be a bad thing? I'm serious. If the Brewers miss the playoffs, and they sell no one, that is going to stink.
  5. I've seen nothing reported since the initial report of this. I have a feeling it's dead in the water. Seemed too good to be true to begin with, and like myself and many others have said, if the Dodgers were really interested in Aramis, Doug would be a moron to not throw him to them for anything at all, even if they just took his contract.
  6. KRod's last two outings, despite hanging on and getting the saves, have been awful. That last out Nyjer caught yesterday was at the fricken warning track. I don't see how another team can look at KRod and see him as being an asset to their bullpen, seriously. He has so many pitches hit the friggin dirt it's sad. If Maldanado wasn't a good defensive catcher the cards would have gotten the tying run in yesterday off of wild pitches. I'd like someone to take KRod, take whatever they offer in return, but I just don't see how any team gives up anything worth a lick for him right now. Hopefully he can have some clean outings between now and the deadline to up his value.
  7. How many times do you want me to repeat myself? If your best hitter isn't protected by an at least above average hitter behind him, he will not be pitched to the same. Pitchers will choose to pitch around him, especially in clutch situations. Again...it's common sense.
  8. You should put that in the optimism thread.
  9. If the Brewers were 3-5 games better, we'd be talking about who they may buy and not who they are going to sell right now.
  10. The argument started because of how people were saying that Braun's numbers would go down without Prince in the lineup, which they obviously haven't. All I said was that Aramis was good enough to provide Braun with enough protection to where pitchers won't treat him any different.
  11. Going off Greinke's comments about how he's not happy about the decision, I am leaning towards stupid all the way (pertaining to my last post). If the Brewers win today, I think there's a possibility they still slide Greinke in during the Reds series this weekend. If they don't, then stupid x10 (unless, again, there's a hush hush impending trade going on behind the scenes right now)
  12. That's why I'm afraid Doug won't play the Greinke card right. Nothing makes sense right now. The team's explanation for benching Greinke is either stupid or false. Stupid - meaning the Brewers are on the most important run of the season, and it greatly diminishes the chance that the Brewers will emerge from the current stretch of games with the kind of record they need to remain in contention. That, and it greatly diminishes Greinke's trade value. No one likes broken (or potentially broken) goods. False - meaning he's sitting due to an impending trade or due to an undisclosed injury. Neither option instills a whole lot of confidence going forward, unless he's sitting due to an impending trade and his new suitors requested he be fresh.
  13. So now you're accusing me of trolling because I pointed out that having a guy on 3rd and 1st with no outs in the bottom of the 9th with a one run lead isn't exactly "SHUTTING THE DOOR"?
  14. For whatever reason, the way MLB managers handle closers when they f-up, is first demoting them to a 7-8th inning role, then, if they still botch it up, then they send them down. Not saying I agree with it, just saying that's usually how it goes.
  15. Sorry. Missed the "reality not allowed" sign.
  16. "SHUTTING THE DOOR" how bout barely escaping?
  17. That makes two of us. I've said it multiple times in this thread, and I'll say it again...I don't think the Brewers can afford Greinke. I don't care what's coming off the books. Doug admitted more than once that the Brewers way over spent this year, as the Aramis signing was a desperation move assuming Braun was going to miss 50 games, and they didn't expect KRod to accept arbitration. The Brewers max payroll is probably around the $80-$90M mark. MLB is now a pitchers league more than a hitters league. Ace pitchers that hit the FA market can garnish a 5-7yr contract that will pay them $23M-$25M a year. The Brewers are way too small/mid-market to commit $23-$25M a year for 5-7yrs on one guy. If (when) Greinke hits the FA market, he is going to get something in that area. Now, you can buy into the "Greinke will take less to stay in Milwaukee" all you want, and you can add in the fact that Doug let's him scout talent which he likes doing and what not, but if you're a realist, he's going for the money. I don't think the "he won't go to a big market team cause of his social anxiety disorder" holds either. He told Adam McCalvy that playing for a big market team wouldn't bother him, and that there'd just be more "idiot fans to ignore". Now, despite everything I just pointed out, I'm afraid Doug still thinks he can resign Greinke to a "discount". I like Melvin, think he's put together some great deals (Braun/Gallardo), but something just tells me that Doug won't play the Greinke card right. I hope I'm wrong, I really do.
  18. Why would RR have not pulled Hoffman exactly? He just pulled Ax. Sending Fiers back down back before Marcum got hurt was the sensible move at the time. Fiers had pitched only 3 games and if I'm not mistaken, one of those 3 games was not exactly a gem. No one predicted Fiers would be as good as he is back then.
  19. and I mentioned immediately that I was wrong when I said that. the 22 losses that stem from the bullpen can't be argued though. Cut that in half...
  20. How are they not? If they bullpen performs at league average, the Brewers are atop of the division right now.
  21. Gotta put KRod in the closer role so his value goes up and we can get something for him as well.
