  1. He debated/refuted a statement and I debated/refuted the topic at hand back. There was no name calling, no flaming. It was a debate. If I push something as a fact and I am wrong, call me on it. If you're right and I'm wrong surely it will be reflected and I will fold. I took a beating on the Olt call which was well deserved. The deal just seemed to make too much sense for both sides and I assumed it would get done. I was wrong and took my lashings accordingly. I still truly believe Kemp snubbed Braun, but that thread was locked and the discussion was subsequently ceased so I dropped it. Anytime that discussion comes around anywhere I will stick to my snub theory till the cows come home. Why? I think we can all come pretty close to guessing next years rotation and lineup, no? Going off that, can't we all form our own opinions on how the team will do?
  2. That reminds me, after re-listening to the interview in the link I posted, when Melvin was asked about the bullpen, he said the bullpen was the easiest thing to replenish and only mentioned Axford as being around next year for sure.
  3. I fail to see the snide remark. The guy came at me because he didn't like my opinion on the matter and I responded to him. Bombers - Who said we're giving up on a year that hasn't even started? I don't think the Brewers will contend next year with what the future seems to hold as far as the team they will put on the field. If they do, awesome. That be great. I just do not see how anyone can seriously look at what the team will most likely be next year and seriously consider them contenders. That is my honest opinion on the matter. I do think if certain moves are made, the Brewers have a more solid chance at contending in 2014. In 2014, the Brewers will know what they have in guys like Thornburg, Rogers, Peralta and Segura. They will know what they need to do rotation wise and lineup wise. Hopefully we find out what Gamel is made of next year as well. Maybe even Morris and/or Davis even. 2013 has too many xfactors to seriously consider the team a contender. That's not me looking into a crystal ball. That's me giving you my opinon on the 2013-2014 Brewers.
  4. My guess is he was addressing the people who keep saying he should resign Greinke in the offseason.
  5. Hart is a proven commodity, no doubt. That's just it. Realistically, he'll want the most he can get. To get the most he can get, he'll have to hit the FA waters. Maybe Doug could seal him up for a bit cheaper, but he'll still run 13-15M a year (I think he could command 16M+ a year on the FA market if he goes that far, but that's me). What's the smart thing to do if you're a small market team? Pay the guy the big money to keep him, or stick with the suitable, cheap replacement and use the money you'd use on Hart to fill other gaps?
  6. What's the difference? We're both saying we don't see the Brewers contending in 2013, but we both hope they do. We both said we'd rather use 2013 as a year to sort of rebuild and get ready to seriously contend in 2014. Can you quote a "snide" remark I made that was inaccurate or bollocks in anyway? People can disagree with me. That's what these forums are about, debates, opinions, discussions, etc. I laid out my view and opinions and explained in detail why I feel the way I feel. If you can't see that "I don't know what to tell you".
  7. Dude, he played in 21 games. C'mon. more a disappointment than the bullpen? really? More than being 10 games under .500? seriously.
  8. He played in 21 games before he got hurt this year. First two full weeks of the season he was looking good. Fell off the last two weeks before he got hurt though. Either way, it's hard to say anything off that sample size, and you can't knock his minor league numbers.
  9. Trade Hart. Get nice prospect(s) in return. Gamel at 1B Green utility guy That's what makes the most sense to me.
  10. No one said we are automatically the Astros next year. What we're saying is there are at least 5 teams in the NL that will make the playoffs over us. I'd say the Brewers will be at the .500 mark next year. either a couple games below .500 or right at .500
  11. Dealing Gamel for a bullpen arm would be a terrible idea. He's under team control for at least another 4-5 years and has a pretty high ceiling. The person to deal would be Hart. Gamel and Aoki in the RF/1B spots is not the biggest drop off from Hart/Aoki. If you have a suitable replacement, you trade the money, not the min wag guy with big time upside.
  12. http://www.sportsradio1250.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=5973841
  13. Michaels is now reading all the emails from upset fans regarding what Melvin said. I guess all sorts of people emailed in and are ticked off that Melvin isn't going after a FA SP. That's what you get from the avg, uninformed fans. It's Michaels job to address them and explain the reasoning but instead he tends to cater to them.
  14. You're probably right. I sent Michaels an email asking why he didn't ask about Gamel. He usually gets back to me and/or reads my emails on the air. We shall see.
  15. Melvin said it. The PR value of making that up is minimal. I think he said it as a way to tell fans not to expect the same sort of payroll next year. That's my take on it.
  16. Said a lot of interesting things regarding this year and next year. One of his more revealing interviews actually. - Said the Brewers hadn't planned on bringing up Segura till sometime next year but the Nats called about Izturis, and his people in Huntsville considered Segura to be MLB ready. - Mentioned rotation next year will consist of "a few young arms". Said SP FA market is thin and the Brewers will more than likely turn to their own (farm) guys. - Said they offered Zack what they could. Cost of quality SP's is through the roof right now, used Hamels and Cain as examples and pointed out what they got without even testing the FA waters. Said committing a lot of $$$ to an SP is tough due to injuries that pitchers tend to suffer. Lot of risk to do so, etc... Said the way to do it is groom from within, cited Gallardo as an example and mentioned there are guys in the Brewers system right now that could follow Gallardo's path. - Said he knew the numbers would be there for Aramis and they will be for Rickie. Slumps are common in MLB, blah blah - Said Hart is more than likely the everyday 1B going into next season. Said him and Ron like him there a lot (no mention of Gamel at all by Michaels or Melvin). I wish Michaels would have asked what they planned on doing with Gamel after Melvin said Hart is probably the everyday 1B for next year.
  17. Melvin on Bill Michaels show right now. Said the Brewers hadn't planned on bringing up Segura till sometime next year but the Nats called about Izturis, and his people in Huntsville considered Segura to be MLB ready. Take that for what it's worth. Also mentioned rotation next year will consist of "a few young arms". Said SP FA market is thin and the Brewers will more than likely turn to their own (farm) guys.
  18. I deleted it.
  19. Bombers - sorry for being honest. Spin it however you want. Look at the last two brewer playoff teams (2008 and 2011) and look at next years team. They won't contend. ^ this
  20. Dougie can roster a min wage SS and start him the first 2 months of next years season. Then when Segura comes up in June said min wage SS can be the backup, get sent down, whatever. Like someone else pointed out, the difference in performance will not be that noticeable unless you think Segura is going to be an immediate world beater, and even then it won't make that much of a difference. so from June 1st 2013 till the end of the 2013 season (roughly 4.2 months) wouldn't be enough adjustment time? The merits of bringing him up now vs. the merits of bringing him up June next year far out weigh each other.
  21. exactly Just like I said earlier... Even if you don't like my "we won't be contending in 2013 anyways" attitude, and you think the Brewers will contend, they still should have waited till next June to bring up Segura, in my opinion. I fail to see the benefit of bringing him up now.
  22. will he be a .850OPS guy in 2014 when he's making $16M? best hope so.
  23. I'd say the circumstances are a bit different to say the least.
  24. That's why I am all for trading him now vs waiting. Better return. and honestly, I have no issue just shedding his contract.
  25. I just assumed whoever he gets traded too, they pick up those installments. Why wouldn't they? Either way, the installments aren't that bad. The $16M in 2014 is.
