  1. I wouldn't be shocked at all. We saw this play out very similarly last trade deadline and after the Yelich/Cain acquisitions. DS isn't going to overpay for anyone under any circumstances. We might get Swarzak/Walker level moves for extra rule 5 pieces but the longer this goes the more likely that there isn't a major acquisition. That is simply incorrect. The link below shows every deadline deal last year. The day with the most deals was naturally July 31st. That tells me it absolutely does not become less likely that we make a major acquisition the longer this goes on. https://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2017/7/18/15989724/2017-mlb-trade-deadline-rumor-tracker Maybe his last part might be incorrect if you base it on last year but his points about Stearns were very correct. Stearns seems to be a solid deal maker and doesn’t get caught up if a deal doesn’t happen. It’s a great thing that he doesn’t just make a deal just to get one done and that he sticks to what he thinks is fair value for these guys.
  2. Would the Cardinals allow this guy to go free? You would be buying at the peak and he’s owed $15M next year and $18.5 in 2020 (w/ a $2M buyout) so he’s not cheap by any means. He has been very consistent over his career. He isn’t a great defender. But he’s a very good hitter. Could he bridge the gap to Hiura? Or even make a guy like Shaw/Aguilar/Thames expendable in the offseason. Just tossing it out there.
  3. See if Joe Mauer wants to put on some catchers gear while they’re at it too.
  4. If you’re getting Dozier and Gibson you might as well toss in Fernando Rodney and bring another quality back end to the bullpen.
  5. Turner could play 2B
  6. I think it shows he’s at least smart enough to keep his mouth shut while the money is flowing in playing a game.
  7. Very happy this is finally done and over. Was really worried we were going to do something really dumb.
  8. Yes. Sell off second and third tier prospects to better our team now and for the future. I agree, but if you can get a can of worms for a Villar or a Broxton, do that too. Yeah, if they’re not going to use Villar then trade him. If they go after Merrifield, he should be in the deal. Probably the same with Broxton. Give those guys an opportunity to play especially with very little to no pressure.
  9. Yes. Sell off second and third tier prospects to better our team now and for the future.
  10. Sure you can.
  11. I know this comes up time and time again - and for the record, I'm one that thinks that Santana and Arcia are good enough hitters no matter what and I'd be fine with it...but...Colorado Springs/PCL. Oh I completely get it but they were sent down to figure it out. Good stats are at least an indicator something positive happening.
  12. Paul, from the reports, those players weren’t getting this deal done.
  13. Agreed with everything. My call for a suspension isn't to placate me. It's to send a message to women, African Americans and the gay community that MLB takes this seriously, and that the game is punishing a player to has shown himself to be disrespectful of them. I think it's possible to believe Hader's comments last night and still need to punish him for allowing this stain to happen. I can understand that take. I’m not sure I agree with it but if it were to happen, I would understand why.
  14. I have a hard time saying what Josh Hader "is" based on this episode. Yeah I don’t know him. I put the “is” part in there only because if he has a history of this stuff, there’s a chance he’s still a turd. He’s done nothing recently for me to believe he is and his teammates coming to his defense a bit helps his case, that’s for sure.
  15. Call up Arcia and Santana and let’s swing our way outta this mess. They’re both doing well in AAA.
  16. A three game suspension won’t change your dislike for the guy now that this has come out. The guy was/is a turd. It is up to him how he is perceived going forward. If he’s smart, he will have quite a few discussions with Braun on how to deal with fans going forward.
  17. Beginning to think they should just call up Santana and Arcia to start the second half.
  18. Correct. Not even sure why this would have to be said. Pitching depth has been key to our success. We have no Nelson, a bad Davies and an average Anderson and yet, success. Sure our pen was great but the starters have done their jobs too.
  19. To me, emptying the farm would have been the correct phrase if we had to give up two top end prospects in Burnes, Hiura, Peralta, Woodruff for a guy that won’t be a Brewer come October/November. You would be depleting top end talent, something we really lack for no gain come next season. It just doesn’t make any sense and never will no matter how many times this is hashed out. Glad this fiasco is almost over, that’s for sure. Oh and this 40 man roster “crunch” definitely can be sorted out in a much more efficient manner than a rental.
  20. Counsell now has an even tougher job to not let this Hader stuff effect the team and to keep Hader focused and not let it effect his pitching. This is beginning to really feel like the beginning of a long second half of the season. It will be very interesting to see how fans react to this.
  21. Excuse me, how do we know the Brewers offer had them in a close 2nd place?? Last I heard, Philly was the front-runner to land Machado on Monday until LA increased it offer.. IMHO its clear the Brewers were in on the negotiations and made a "solid" offer to Baltimore. That said unless all the various offers are listed for public review or the Orioles come out and say that unless LA 'did x' the deal would have been with Milwaukee, I don't buy the Brewers were a close 2nd. You buy one report but not another saying we were a close second. Got it.
  22. Tweeting “I hate gay people” or “kkk” or “white power” along with quite a bit of other stuff is not just dumb stuff. Pretty sad to see really.
  23. Braun gets blamed for a lot of things but this may take the cake.
  24. So where does Braun play? CC isn't going to bench him completely, just not going to happen. Braun will mess this roster up for the next 2.5 years, and there isn't anything that we can do about it. Say Santana rakes from this point on, we are going to keep Braun and Thames on the bench? It's a good problem to have if that is the case, but putting CC in that situation could be interesting. Just like before, there’s plenty of at bats to be had. The Brewers were at a point of having Perez as their starting RF. Beyond ridiculous.
